Christmas Wrap-Up

Been a pretty solid, fairly low-key Christmas around here. Woke up around ten, had breakfast with the folks, then unwrapped presents. In addition to the BTTF OddSoxs I got yesterday, I received:
-->"You Had One Job!" 2019 Calendar -- a calendar of various funny fails in various businesses, from brownie "squares" that were cut in triangular wedges to a house where the front door is BESIDE the steps leading up to it. That's gonna be a fun one to turn the pages on in 2019. XD
-->Ghostbusters: Answer The Call, the 2016 reboot movie -- I enjoyed it and wanted to add it to the 1980s movies I already owned.
-->My usual box of Ferrero Roche chocolates
-->Two things of Mentos gum -- a regular pack and 100-piece pack (which, uh, has small pieces but what can you do)
-->Two things of Icebreakers mints to go with it
-->Two pairs of velvety "lounging around the house" pants -- like the OddSoxs, I'd specifically asked for these as my only pair of cold-weather hanging around the house pants were a pair of rather thin blue yoga pants -- fine for spring and fall, but sometimes not so great in winter. Plus I only had one, meaning I had to plan throwing them in the laundry carefully. Now not so much of an issue!
-->Three new pairs of socks! Yes, a very socky Christmas -- to be fair, I DID have to throw away two pairs of work socks earlier this month as they'd developed holes, and Mom had been looking for replacements for me. She specifically wanted some purple ones, as those were the ones I'd had to ditch. New pair has purple, black, and a floral pattern on white.
-->$50 Steam card, which is likely to go at least in part to picking up some Fallout 4 DLC just so I have the full game when I start playing. (I'd also asked for something similar from Origin, for Sims 4 stuff, but apparently that doesn't exist. Ah well.)
-->$25 Newbury's gift card -- no clue what I'll get with that yet, but I'm sure I'll think of something.
-->A Seagate Backup Plus Slim external hard drive -- another specific request, since I was looking at all the stuff on my computer a little while back and thought, "Okay, USB sticks really ain't cutting it anymore." It's really small, and works well so far -- made a backup today of everything on my computer, so that was nice. Gonna have to find a good place to keep it on my desk/in my room and get backups made on a regular schedule. At least this way I can back up everything a lot quicker than I could with the USB!
-->And a surprise gift -- a watch necklace put together by my mom! Apparently she felt bad that my old one -- a Hot Topic purchase a few years back -- no longer worked (both in the sense of "the battery's now dead" and "we had to glue the front cover shut because it would no longer close on its own") and wanted to give me a new, steampunky one. It's pretty cool -- I've got pictures on my tumblr.
So that was pretty nice. And then most of the day was spent watching Christmas-related things, both with the folks and on my own:
-->A MST3K Christmas episode -- Mike's first, with the movie Santa Claus. It's a badly-dubbed Mexican movie that has some interesting Santa Claus lore -- such as the fact he lives in another dimension with a bunch of children playing various racial stereotypes as they make his toys. Also he personally fights this one devil who is continually sent out to ruin Christmas and make children be evil. It's actually the origin of the phrase "Nightmare Fuel" thanks to some damn creepy animatronics. As you might imagine, it was prime for the riffing. XD
-->Last week's episode of Atop The Fourth Wall that I kept meaning to get to, which was actually about the comic adaptation of The Force Awakens. Turned out, it was actually a pretty good adaptation -- decent art, stuck to the story, didn't make any cuts that completely destroyed the plot. Good work, adapters! The storyline, though -- oooh boy, things took a sour turn there! I suspect getting the wrap-up just right is why the next episode hasn't come out yet. Eeep.
-->That Fun With Christmas "Fun With Shorts" compilation Josh put out -- included some old classics, and some Patreon-exclusive stuff I hadn't seen before! Mostly made me realize how crappy a lot of old Christmas shorts were. XD But hey, Josh's riffs were always amusing, so that helped make it all better. :p
-->And one non-Christmas-themed thing -- The Sim Supply's latest "Get Famous Rags To Riches" episode! Dude concentrated his efforts this time on getting Lady II a "stan" -- one of those over-obsessed fans that, in the real world, tend to worry celebrities a bit. In the Sims 4 world, James wants Lady to hook up with hers. Oooooh dear. :p She HAS at least moved out of the sound studio and into an actual mansion in the Pinnacles, so she is moving up in the world. Now the end of the series shall only be defined by the end of the DRAMA -- and that ain't happening anytime soon. :p
Also played some Sims 4 myself, actually -- though not any of my families. Decided to take a day and do some building instead. I wanted to make a special lot that was basically a bowling alley and indoor skating rink, but classify it as a restaurant so I could make it serve specific food. Spent a good chunk of the afternoon playing around with it, and it's slowly coming together. At the very least, it's looking better than my attempt at a water did. Might do some more with it tomorrow or Thursday -- I'm far enough ahead on my tumblr Sims updates that taking a few days to build stuff isn't going to be an issue.
And now. . .well, I don't have a heck of a lot in the inbox, and I'm taking the night off queuing over on the Valice Multiverse because Christmas. So I'll get to the comments I do have and then just hang out as Boxing Day starts, I think. :p Night all! Hope you had a happy holiday!
