No Rivers, Instead Rocky Point
Aug. 24th, 2019 11:03 pmYeah, woke up this morning to Mom telling me a few key facts about our inner tubing trip I didn't know before:
1. The river is pretty low this time of year, so there's going to be a lot more rocks and unpleasant bits
2. The high for today wasn't supposed to go above like 73 F (this turned out to be bullshit, but we didn't realize that at the time)
3. The actual tubing place is farther away than we though -- a two hour drive! Keep in mind, I woke up around 9:45 because we were expecting a fairly short hop to the park it's in
4. The place apparently has trouble with drunks and kids making makeshift rafts and clogging up the river >(
Soooo yeah, it didn't take us long to decide that, at least for now, going tubing on that river is out. Maybe next year, if and when we can get their earlier in the season. Warmer temps, a higher river, and a chance to get down there before the assholes can really take over the place = a better experience for us all.
We also threw out the idea of going to Lake Compounce tomorrow -- Mom and I ended up taking a more thorough look at the rides on offer there, and most of them are a) water rides or b) kiddie rides. Seems like the park is definitely one meant for parents with younger kids! For a while, Mom was looking at places in New Hampshire we could go and maybe stay overnight while doing a few activities, but that ended up not going anywhere. Possibly because Dad and I weren't really on-board with the idea -- I personally wasn't keen because it was already almost mid-day, and it felt to me like that if we went up there, we'd be checking into the hotel and then scrambling to do some stuff before having to head to bed and prepare for a long drive back tomorrow. So instead we came up with a new plan:
Today: Visit Rocky Point Park, go out for lunch at Iggy's, go bowling afterward, then have a cheesecake picked up somewhere
Tomorrow: A return to Canobie Lake Park! Yes, we've done it before, but we didn't get to do all the stuff we wanted to do -- plus we were kind of constantly comparing Six Flags to it the other day, remembering all the good times there, so. . .plus it's about as far away as Six Flags was, so why not?
We ended up only doing three of the four things on our list for today -- Mom's heel started hurting after we went out to the park, so we ended up skipping bowling. But we had a good long walk around Rocky Point Park, enjoying the nice weather (which DEFINITELY got up to at least 80 -- it was WARM in the sun!), and reading all the plaques they had detailing the history of the amusement park that used to be there. There's even a few bits still left, like a couple of pieces of the old skyline ride, or the base of one of those chain swing rides, and an arch from a World's Fair. :) Very cool to look at and read about, and nice to get out and have a bit of a wander. We also had a nice lunch at Iggy's (Mom and Dad split a seafood platter, while I had chicken tenders and fries and a root bear float, which was delicious), and Mom picked up a BIG New York-style cheesecake at Chelo's, which we had for desert (I had mine with chocolate and caramel sauce, and whipped cream -- om nom NOM). It was all very nice, and I kind of appreciated having a more chill day in between our two big days out at the amusement parks. :)
Especially since this allowed me to get caught up on both videos AND video games this time! Here's how I spent my afternoon:
-->Watched three "Riddles with Kassie and Jay" videos (two on Kassie's channel, one on Jay's), which were the usual silly nonsense about figuring out which of three doors is safe to go through, figuring out which zombie was married to some lady, who killed a vampire, who killed their husband, all that fun stuff. :p Always great to see these two in action on ridiculous 7 Second brainteasers! XD
-->Also watched Jay's latest Yandere Simulator Myths episode, testing out certain game mechanics as a delinquent. Turns out being part of the delinquents doesn't mean you can't throw them under the bus to the guidance counselor (though you can't do so for the same offense twice), or that they won't take you down if they see you kill an innocent (a BULLY, on the other hand . . .) And you can't shut up the one who tasks you with finding him a knife by handing him a katana, though that would have been so funny. XD
-->Played some Bloodlines -- it IS Vampire Saturday! (Though it doesn't feel like it -- it's amazing how fast you get disconnected from the days of the week when you're not following your usual routine. . .) I started the next night of Alice's life by reporting to LaCroix about the Elizabeth Dane (picking up Heather in the process), then getting the Grout quest and the keys to the Skyeline Apartments from him. Grout's on hold for the moment, though, as Alice had a number of things to check out in the Skyeline building. She's advanced "Mudd Hunt" by finding the chalk outline of Milton's body in Unit 2, along with a message telling him and Durbin to meet someone at an underpass across from a bar; and advanced "Fun With Pestilence" by finding the actual body of Paul the ghoul in Unit 5, following HIS answering machine message to his dying girlfriend Hannah up in Unit 6, whom she Demented so that Hannah would see her as Paul and tell her how she got sick (in-story, I'm thinking Victor ends up helping her with this and becomes the fake "Paul"). Turns out it's the fault of one Jezebel Locke, who's spreading sickness for the "Ninth Circle." Alice went over to the hotel she's staying at, persuaded the hotel manager into giving her a key, and went up and kicked the bitch's ass -- barely. I forgot Toreadors had Celerity for a moment, and Jezebel was a TOUGH opponent! She came within an inch of killing Alice before Alice managed to land the killing blow with her fire axe. Whoof. But Alice is okay, has two new skill books and an artifact to her name (Obfuscate and Auspex both last longer, hooray), and is currently outside the Last Round, ready to report to Damsel. I'm gonna see if I can have her do another piece of "Mudd Hunt," then send her round to Fat Larry to buy some goods and do his quest as prep for taking on the Brotherhood of the Ninth Circle. Progress! :D
-->Naturally, this necessitated watching some Bloodlines 2-related content in my Watch Later queue afterwards. I chose a roughly-half-hour demo of the game played at GamesCom (actually the same scenario as was shown off earlier in the year at E3; though it was a fresh playthrough, with the person at the controls showing off a lot more of the environments. Was kind of cool to get to see the haven in more detail, along with the world! Now if only someone would pick some more unique dialogue options. . .) and Outstar analyzing everyone's favorite "vampire with a cleaver," the promo-image man they call Stabby (she was comparing him to similar-looking vampires we've seen in trailers and making guesses as to his clan and why he's apparently killing people with a cleaver -- according to her, Malkavian and he's killing Thin-Bloods who are finding out too much about the Mass Embrace, leading her to believe he's a potential sire from that fiasco that kicks off the game). Some interesting stuff, and if Sims 4: Realm of Magic has no new news, I'll take hype over this game instead. XD
And now I have to get myself to bed -- once again, have to get up at 7:30 so I can have myself ready for 8:30, when we head out. Should be a fun day! Good night all!
