Well, It Finally Happened
Mar. 19th, 2020 11:31 pmDue to coronavirus concerns (11 new cases today! I know it's "more testing means more people can actually be diagnosed," but yeeps), the Diocese has officially shut the building doors. I am home for -- well, the foreseeable future, basically. And given the nature of my job, I can't really work from home -- the system that our department came up with was to access our work e-mail and forward things off to the new boss (who has been very diligent in trying to learn how we do things and setting things up so he can handle what he can to the best of his ability). So yeah, I'll be doing that once or twice a day on weekdays, plus keeping my phone on in case of updates, but -- well, rest of the the time is mine! I'd appreciate it more if it wasn't a pandemic and the weather wasn't, you know, New England March. (Though tomorrow is supposed to be at least semi-okay. . .maybe I can sneak in a few rounds around the block during the afternoon.) At least I'm guaranteed two weeks of pay. . .and I have so much sick time I should be able to use it straight through the end of April. AND I got an Amazon gift card (along with my coworker) from the guy who's been helping us run the campaigns and stuff, for being really helpful during all the transitions lately. So that was nice. Depending on the amount, I may see a Stuff Pack in my future. . .
Anyway -- got through the day at work (having problems with online stuff right up until the last minute, always fun!), then came home and settled in:
-->Mom's gotten our first puzzle back out for a redo, so I helped her with that a couple of times this evening (before and after supper) -- I'd forgotten how weird some of the pieces on that one were XD Still, we're making good progress on rebuilding it!
-->Wrote some more on "Secundus 2" Chapter 6 -- Doc and Clara have had their moment, despite Christopher and Richard having a brief argument nearby. Now it's time for her to join the picnic! :)
-->Had a Call Me Kevin marathon, w000! Highlights included:
A) Another episode of PS2 Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, with its terrifying faces, ridiculous spells, and "we hate children" challenges -- hey, remember when Harry and Ron just barely helped Hermione escape that troll in the girls' bathroom? Well, in this universe, not only did they defeat it by casting spells on a certain patch of ground and then making it club said patch of ground to make it hit itself in the face, he then had to fight TWO MORE in Herbology! What even is this Hogwarts? XD
B) Another round of killing every NPC in a map in Hitman 2! This time, it was the Sapienza mission! . . .okay, perhaps a touch too topical (especially since that mission has 47 destroying a lethal virus), but Kevin still made it funny, especially with his penchant for dressing up in the most ridiculous disguises possible. XD
C) Kevin watching some more Irish television for St. Patrick's Day! This one was a family swap where two Australian families with problem children sent them to live for a week with a Good Catholic Irish Family, which whipped them into shape. It was all very reality-TV ridiculous, and made even better with Kevin's commentary. XD
D) Kevin playing Dreams, a VERY WEIRD PS4 game that is basically people using what looks like a cheaper version of Garry's Mod for Half Life 2 to make their own "dreams," aka minigames. Most involve platforming, much to Kevin's chagrin. XD But there were some real winners in there, like Heavy vs Obama (with the help of Shrek), and Wallace going on a mad quest for cheese (with the help of most of Fox's animation lineup). It was -- something. XD
E) Kevin playing BarnFinders, an early access game which is basically about a good old boy running a shop based on the stuff he finds searching old barns and storage places. Except there seems to be a hidden plot in here involving aliens? And possibly cults? It's a fun game, and Kevin had a lot of fun with it. Especially finding all the golden toilet paper. XD
-->Got my Valice Multiverse queue all set up -- not a lot there, but that's cool. Gave me more time to catch up on the tags. :p
And now it's time to clean out the inbox and -- well, a friend on tumblr asked me if I was gonna keep up my work sleeping schedule, and I suppose I should at least TRY to stop myself staying up too super late on weekdays. If only because it'll help me keep some of my sense of time while I'm out of work. The days tend to blend into each other enough on vacation! Though I reserve the right to at least sleep in a LITTLE. If I don't HAVE to be up at seven. . . Anyway, off to answer whatever comments I have left, then maybe do a little bit of last-minute browsing before heading off to bed. (I haven't been getting to bed before 12:30ish anyway, so it's not that big of a change :p) Night all! Stay healthy!

Date: 2020-03-21 02:48 am (UTC)Ed was not included because right now they still need maintenance and it would cost them more money to let him go than to keep him, so he's safe for the moment.
This whole situation is just...insane.

Date: 2020-03-21 03:22 am (UTC)I'm glad Ed's still got his job, but I hope he's keeping safe out there! It really is utterly mad. We're up to 54 cases in RI, and while we're not in total shutdown mode, we're all being urged to stay home as much as possible. Guess it's better than New York or California. . .
