Though "restarting because I want to update some stuff/get better notes for potential snippet-writing/get my playthrough back on track instead of it being constantly Minuteman Simulator" is still on the table. Mostly because I actually spent a good chunk of my day looking at various Fallout 4 mods on the NexusMods site (where most of them live). There's some neat ones on there, including adding some backpacks and other carrying cases to the game; updating the dialogue system so you can see exactly what your character is saying; a mod that adds new perks and "traits," which are like perks but have a downside (apparently they were part of earlier Fallout games); various improvements to weather, settlements, settlers; and of course the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch, which apparently got updated really recently. I wouldn't mind putting some of these in my game and then restarting to have a fully upgraded Fallout 4 experience. . .
Buuuut, uh, modding Fallout 4 is NOT like modding The Sims 4 -- you can't just plop some files in a "Mods" folder and call it done. There's game files you have to manually edit, a load order you apparently have to follow, there's this mod manager that makes things easier but it's not really supported by NexusMods anymore. . . I watched some videos on the subject in an attempt to make everything feel less scary, but while they were helpful -- they're also all from 2015. Which, granted, Fallout 4 is from 2015 (it turns 5 in November), but -- I dunno. Would love to do it, am unsure if I ever will. Maybe after making multiple backups?
Anyway, with that running through my mind, I decided, "Well, if nothing else, I should at least fix the shitshow that happened between Greentop Nursery and Somerville Farm yesterday so I'm in a better position there." So I booted up the game, and backed myself up to the save I made at Abernathy Farm before everything went down. Raided their workbench for materials -- found they didn't have the stuff I would need, so instead I went over to my Red Rocket base (which was pretty close), did a little modding and cooking, gathered what materials I would need for turrets, then headed STRAIGHT to Greentop. Greeted the settler, built two turrets (defenses at 100%, yay), then waited. About a minute later, we had enemy spawnage.
Three Super Mutants.
ALL WITH MISSILE LAUNCHERS.
I have mentioned I hate Super Mutants, right? Also missile launchers? I died a good five, six times, but EVENTUALLY -- through dodging, weaving, judicious application of Pulse Grenade and Combat Shotgun, and pure unadulterated luck -- I managed to kill them all. Settlers were happy, and I took the quest off active status so the quest marker wouldn't follow me about on Preston's head. (Because, unfortunately, if I talk to him, it auto-starts another quest. . .) Fucking finally.
With THAT done, and Somerville Place apparently NOT attracting evil robots today, I went back to Sunshine Tidings to fix up their situation again (made two little farms, cleaned up the "mess hall," put a switch on the recruitment beacon so I could turn it off as necessary), then popped over to Jamaica Plain to make sure they were all right. Saved it there, with Victor huddled in a corner out of the rain. He's probably wishing I'd restart now too so I could get him some proper levels before taking on all of this. XD
Okay, and now to prove that I did do other things:
-->. . .first item on the list is more Fallout 4 videos. *facepalm* Usual "companion react" videos (Codsworth giving me the feels with his comments on a playground you can find), a couple of list videos on "things Fallout 4 did better than New Vegas" and "Oldest Fallout characters from the Bethesda games" (yes, the Sole Survivor was mentioned! Based on the wife's law degree and the husband's military service, the guy put them at about 25 at youngest in the prologue, meaning they'd be about 235 in the main game), and Oxhorn's playthrough of the "Concussion" mod (which I had read about on TV Tropes and kind of wanted to see -- it's creepy and eerie, but happily in a way that shouldn't completely destroy my attempts to sleep tonight!). So that was fun. (Also found an extended version of a favorite piece of Fallout music, nice.)
-->In non-Fallout-related videos, caught up on my two OX videos -- a list of easily-missed awesomeness in video games, commenter edition (apparently Witcher 3 has a Dark Souls reference you can snag a sword from! But only in this one magical fairy tale land. . .), and a list of 'geniuses' who were killed by their own creations (with the guy at the end, an evil scientist from the House of the Dead series, being taken down in the first game by his own evil biological monstrosity, and in the third game by his heroic son -- good on the twofer, buddy!).
-->Did some more on Chapter 7 of "Secundus 2" -- Clara's dropped off her telescope, Emily has stopped Richard from pointing out that it's probably NOT actually broken, and everyone's had a good giggle over Doc and Clara mooning over each other again. XD I SHOULD be able to clear this one this week, since it's a very short chapter -- yay quick turnarounds! And then we'll see how long Chapter 8 is. . .
-->Got my Valice Multiverse queue sorted -- just a couple of questions, no biggie.
And that's about it for today! Except for certifying my unemployment payment, but I have officially tried that three times today, and the "submitting" process never seems to complete. Looks like I'm calling them on the phone tomorrow! *heavy sigh* I don't know why they keep fiddling with the accursed thing -- nothing seems to be wrong on my end this time. . . Anyway, night all!
