Admittedly, I only did them late this afternoon, but I blame that entirely on the "period tireds." Seriously, why is it I'm always so freaking exhausted the first day or so of the curse. . . But here, let me take you through my journey:
-->Backed up my saves, and the current executable and launcher from the game folder (after Googling where I find my Fallout 4 saves, and looking up that tutorial about how to back up the latter two I watched a few days back)
-->Downloaded Vortex from Nexus Mods, and managed to set that up to manage Fallout 4 (after being told "ooooh, free downloads are so slow, are you SURE you don't want to go premium?" Yeah, screw you, still took less than a minute)
-->Found the "Fallout 4 Script Extender" (F4SE for sort), downloaded that, unzipped it, and put it into the main folder for Fallout 4 files as per the tutorial I found to do THAT
-->Closed and reopened Vortex -- looked like the Script Extender is recognized, so good
-->Attempted to open game through Vortex and the Script Extender launcher. At first it didn't look like it worked, so foolishly I clicked it again.
Cue like three Steam windows opening, each asking me to log in, the regular launcher opening up, Steam letting me know it couldn't cloud sync, and me trying to find my Steam password while closing down excess windows. Got logged in, the damn thing threw up ANOTHER error message -- I closed everything out, and accidentally got rid of one of Vortex's dashboard panes in the process. Restored the pane and tried AGAIN to use the F4SE launcher -- this time, the game just opened up. Checked to see that the script extender was enabled (it was); closed out game and everything to do with modding before period-enhanced frustration could make me get pissier than I was.
So yeaaaah, not the, uh, greatest start to my modding adventures. At least the extender is installed, I suppose. And I did look at some other mods (checked out YouTuber Oxhorn's mod list), but -- as per usual -- everything seems to have at least one post or bug report stating "this doesn't work anymore in 2020," "this breaks a quest," "this doesn't do what it says on the tin. . ." I dunno. Like I said, we've got period-enhanced frustration here, so that isn't helping matters. I just -- I keep comparing it to how I add custom content and mods to The Sims 4, and that seems so much FREAKING EASIER. . . Probably for the best I'm going back to that tomorrow. Gotta work some more on A-Maze-Ing Wonderland in honor of Alice's birthday!
Anyway, in other news:
-->Weather was absolutely GORGEOUS -- 70s and mostly sunny! :D Talk about finally getting the spring we deserve. . .
-->Mom and Dad built a beanbag game today! We have two boards, each with three holes, and eight beanbags (or, well, ROCKbags -- Mom filled them with little rocks she's collected from the beach over the years). We did some practice runs today, throwing the bags at the boards and seeing if we could get them through the holes. Dad was the best, most consistently hitting the board and getting the most holes. Though I want it known that I got one through a hole at the very end! It's a fun diversion for the summer -- especially since going places is going to be severely curtailed. Mom's gonna paint the boards tomorrow (octopus on one, seahorse on the other), and then we'll have another game. :)
-->I did another series of laps around the yard, which was very nice in this weather. :) Alternated groups of ten going one way, than the other. If I can't go far, I will at least do things to keep the loops interesting!
-->Videos of the day (not related to F4SE) included:
A) A list of all known Vaults in the Fallout universe, including those only named in supplemental material – heck, the guy even included those from Fallout Shelter! So that was cool.
B) Two videos from Oxhorn discussing settlements – the first on how he sets up defenses for them, based on how attacks actually work (the game has certain spawn points for enemies, but will move them deeper into the settlement depending on how long it takes for you to get to the settlement – fast travel may be instantaneous on the player's side, but in the game, you still spent all that time walking! So walls are really only good for aesthetic purposes, and your best best are lots of guard posts and turrets at the spawn points); the second on settlement-building tips (did you know that you can hold a certain button to select EVERYTHING if you've built up a platform and highlight one piece on it? Now THAT'S good information! . . .Except that he referenced a keyboard key, and I use a controller to play. . .hmmm. . .).
C) The two OXBox videos I wanted to catch up on – boss fights that were hyped up so as to terrify you when you finally had to face them (featuring Ellen and Luke freaking out about a certain multi-headed buzzsaw lady while playing The Evil Within 2), and video game villains who made strange cameos in other games (like Ganon from the Legend of Zelda series in Animal Crossing New Leaf, or Dracula as a villain in Evolution Skateboarding. Sadly, Drac did NOT get on an actual board – lame!).
D) And another adventure from Call Me Kevin in Hardcore Minecraft – despite a few nervous moments with creepers, skeletons, spiders, and nearly drowning, things are still going well! He's found enough diamond to repair/recreate his pickaxe, and even make himself a sweet sword; he's quietly stolen some cows to expand his farm into leather and meat; and he's expanded his castle out a bit so everything he cares about is protected. Good times! I'm really hoping he stays alive for a while; this is fun. :)
-->Got Chapter 8 of "Secundus 2" started! . . .and the initial copy-paste puts it at 21 pages, so this is another "buckle up, it's gonna be a long haul" chapter. To be fair, it covers the Hill Valley festival, and a LOT happens at the Hill Valley festival, soooo. . . It'll take as long as it takes, I guess. I will do my best to make it quality!
-->And I'm currently finishing up my Valice Multiverse queueing, while preparing to empty out the inbox -- as you do.
And that's about it! Tomorrow is Monday -- and Alice's birthday, so I will have to make or reblog something special for that over on Tumblr. And watch something appropriately Alicey on YouTube. And, as stated before, do some more with the A-Maze-Ing Wonderland Park in her honor. *nods* These sound like good plans. (Along with doing some more Victor Luvs Alice queuing in the morning, because yay being productive and staying a bit ahead.)
But yeah, time to wrap things up here before heading to bed and hopefully getting a good sleep. Night all!

Date: 2020-05-05 01:10 am (UTC)Isn't that beanbag game called cornrows or something in, like, the south? I think I saw something similar on one of those HGTV house renovation shows.

Date: 2020-05-05 02:55 am (UTC)Possibly? I dunno -- we're just calling it a beanbag game here. Mom started painting up the boards today, though I don't know if she finished -- it ended up getting super-cloudy and depressing this afternoon, sadly.
