Dun Wanna Go Back To Work Tomorrow
Aug. 10th, 2020 10:48 pmNo, seriously, I'm having a bit of anxiety over it -- as I always do. I just -- have I mentioned lately I miss April? When I had my one day of work at home a week, and the rest of it I could spend doing what I like? And I could just be at home and not worry so much about stuff and -- ugh. I've just gotten more and more paranoid as this whole thing has gone on, and my one ray of hope is that vaccine trials are apparently going well. Mom cautions me not to get my hopes up TOO much, because these things do take time and we don't know what the vaccine side effects are yet -- valid -- but. . .I gotta have SOMETHING. Something to remind me that everyone else wants an end to this mess too and we're working to reach it. I want 2021 to be "the year we can actually do some stuff again." The year I can stop being scared about what feels like everything. Ugh, I repeat, ugh.
ANYWAY -- despite that, and waking up to YET AGAIN more drama (this time, my parents fighting with eBay because I think eBay has been messing up their listings thanks to an update to their payment stuff?), it's been a pretty nice day. Stayed inside in the AC because of a heat advisory, but:
-->Started the day activating my new credit card that came in the mail a little while ago, and paying my bill to boot, look at me being responsible
-->Got pretty much caught up on my YouTubes again:
A) The final episode of The Sims Spark'd! Which was probably the best, as it was the most personal for all the players and didn't have any weird restrictions or whatnot – they could, you know, just tell a freaking story with the game, as you do. The idea was that they'd take shared experiences and turn them into a personal tale – Team Llama basically chose to tell XmiraMira's story of being bullied for her interests as a kid, only to turn around and turn her passion into something more with YouTube; Team Cowplant did a more communal thing about not hiding your creativity, your true self, under a bushel, as being creative in the game is an important outlet for all of them. One of the comments stated this was the episode where everyone cries, and – yeah, that's pretty accurate. XD The winner was our favorite "drama" team, which – honestly, I thought the other team was gonna take it, as their story seemed to touch one of the judges more, but hey. It's reality TV, I never pretend to understand the decisions made. XD (I will say that I think the advantage that the team who won the skills challenge got was unfair – fifteen extra minutes on the clock to create their Sim story! This is the finale – you should each get equal time.)
B) Then over to the latest episode of "Rags to Redevelopment," where Ambrose has taken up the old family craft of flower arranging because his bees are always enraged! And James is getting a crash course in how hard it is to actually SCENT the accursed arrangements again (you only get the ability at skill level 3, and then the arrangement itself has to be Excellent or higher quality). He also went on a date with Lilith after she called him to confess a crush (reminder: THEY'RE MARRIED AND HAVE A KID. But they don't LIVE together, which is why I think that particular phone message happened) – they hit the gym and exchanged some gifts! Also tried to shower woohoo, but the game wouldn't let them. Still made gold, though! Then he went dumpster diving to get more stuff to recycle into fuel for his water generators, and then made some honey cake, and – he had a busy time of it, is what I'm saying. XD Also a new shipping container for the pile, this one oriented vertically. Dunno what he'll do with it, but I look forward to finding out!
C) Then, after a break for Sims and supper, it was over to Fun With Shorts for its latest feature, "Round Robin!" Which was indeed actually about the bird. British robins, in fact – one very chatty one voiced by Bernard Cribbins in particular. It was an okay short – basically a robin narrating what it's like to be a robin (it's mainly defending your territory, getting nervous about outdoor cats, eating, and making little robins to drive off later), but it was definitely improved by Josh mocking the accent and making Batman jokes. XD
D) And then – oh, look at that, I have some GrayStillPlays to watch!
1. Braindom – a mobile app that is essentially "7 Second Riddles: The Game." (Remember when everybody and their brother was doing videos on the videos on that channel? Hell, I went through a phase a little while back where I was binging them – until I realized how repetitive most of the puzzles were.) Gray messing around and calling out all these parents for refusing to take responsibility for their children (and drawing dicks whenever he could) made the whole experience a LOT more fun. XD
2. The Henry Stickman Collection – Gray's back with Henry, after playing one of his games blind in an earlier episode! A new episode has released, and Gray is here to help Henry make bad choices and get killed in entertaining ways. XD Such as hunkering down in a tank and driving into a wall with his friend Ellie! Or trying to use a "purse of holding" to gather a bunch of gold, only to get lasered by the bad guy stealing it! Or charging THROUGH a bunch of soldiers wanting to shoot him, a la Leeroy Jenkins! XD There are apparently 164 endings you can get (or hell, maybe just 164 ways to fail, I don't know if it's counting the actual endings), so I suspect Gray will be coming back to this particular well in the future! (I'm kind of hoping he goes back to the beginning to check things out – he apparently started with the fourth episode in the series, and I kind of want context for what the hell is going on.)
3. More Happy Wheels – HARPOOOONS, HARPOONS AND DEATH XD Today was the "presidential" edition, where he started off using a lot of this one guy who looks a bit like Richard Nixon to do things like chuck watermelons into death holes (for himself or little Timmy), and fall down pits of spikes. Of course, there was more variety later on, like the line of random horrible deaths Gray used as a teaching moment for the little kids in the game: "this is what happens when you don't each your vegetables, this is what happens when you don't do your homework. . ." XD It seriously is the perfect game for him, and I'm loving it. :D
4. Airplane Flight Attendant Career Job Sim – yes, another el cheapo Unity game, this one about being a flight attendant! Unfortunately, it wasn't about surviving air disasters, just regular flight attendant stuff (though there WAS one section where you had to go around putting oxygen masks on passengers like feed bags XD). Gray had a lot of fun taking Bianca around and talking smack to the passengers. Even if he couldn't actually harm them in-game, he made sure to let them know that he despised them on his side of the screen. XD
E) And a video someone on tumblr linked me about the "correlation equals causation" fallacy – I think they wanted me to watch it because it specifically talked about Victorian doctors and "childbed fever" (this one doctor noticed that women who had inflamed abdomens typically caught the fever and declared the inflammation caused the fever; a more sensible doctor noticed that doctors who did autopsies on women who had died of it and then went to treat other women often found their new patient getting sick from the same disease, and suggested the DOCTOR was passing it along – he wasn't popular for this theory). Interesting enough stuff, I suppose, though kind of depressing in light of a) the past situation of women dying because doctors wouldn't wash their hands and b) the current pandemic.
-->As mentioned, after my Sims videos, I played Sims 4 myself -- back into the Chell/Wheatley/Geeker house renovation! It's -- I'd say 99% done. I ended up turning their basement into a living room, since there simply wasn't space on the ground floor (the main body of the house is basically one huge hallway, and I couldn't figure out a way to make the couch and TV fit without it looking super awkward), along with making a medical office for Wheatley (I don't know what he's actually gonna DO down there, but he needs a place to put his unlocked items!), and finding a listening nook for Chell. Oh, and they now have laundry to worry about, because if I have to do it, they have to do it. XD I'm pretty satisfied with how everything's come out so far -- at the very least, I either placed or sold everything that was in the household inventory (ended up selling Chell's cupcake machine as there was no room, and besides, she should have one at her store anyway). And I've added some little finishing touches to places like the bathroom and Geeker's bedroom. Probably gonna do a few last minute updates next time I play, then actually, you know, play the family. XD Goals with them are to focus on Wheatley's doctor career (want to get him at least one more promotion) and Chell's bakery (since we haven't been there in like, forever). Oh, and have Geeker and his boyfriend continue their relationship, because one gay couple in my game is going to be happy, damn it.
-->Also wrote some more on "Londerland Bloodlines" -- Alice and Mercurio have invaded Carson's apartment, though what they've mainly done is talk mostly about LaCroix being a bad boss and the tenuous vampire political situation in Los Angeles (Mercurio was kind enough to fill Alice in, since she's running largely blind). It's interesting stuff, and gives me a break from meticulously copying game dialogue. :p Also, in case you were wondering -- up to 122 pages. Meeep. O.o
-->Finished up getting my pictures ready for the Wednesday Newcrest Adventures update -- a short one to wrap up the Brown-Kosperovs, with just twenty-five pictures. Hoping to at least get the pictures into my drafts tonight, then I'll work on text tomorrow evening.
-->And now I just have to answer what's left in my inbox and head to bed. Because work is tomorrow and I'm trying very hard to keep up with my work sleeping schedule. Hopefully it won't be too stressful a Tuesday back. . .but on the other hand, I have to keep in mind, it's a short week, made even shorter by half-day Fridays. Yeah, REALLY need those to help keep my sanity in these current times. Always looking toward when I can just hang out, watch YouTube, and play video games! I don't think about reality when I'm designing Sim houses or surviving out in the Wasteland.
Anyway -- comments and drafts! Night all!
