Fall-Like Saturday
Aug. 15th, 2020 11:28 pmSeriously -- the temperature only got into the mid-70s, and it was cloudy most of the day, with some sprinkles here and there. Not complaining about the temps (it's low humidity and very comfortable), but a little more sunshine would have been less depressing. Ah well, at least we had Jack Whitehall with lunch to cheer us up. And the discover that what we thought was a one-shot miniseries of his (Travels With My Father) is actually a PROPER series, with seasons 2 and 3! (Though we can only get Season 2 in its entirety on Netflix currently. . .unless Season 3 really IS only two episodes.) So that's nice, something new to watch. :)
As usual, I slept in pretty late, so no double gaming today, but I did have a nice day regardless:
-->Once again, did a bit of various binging on the YouTubes:
A) A few more of ProZD's mini-vids to start off before lunch:
1. A silly video about "before and after discovering the subreddit for a hobby," as shown by a guy who used to just drink water, but now has to check its pH with a special instrument, and use special glasses, and mock people who drink bottled. . . XD
2. A weird one about "Walt Backward-Gisney" – apparently ProZD noticed one day that the way Disney wrote the "D" in his last name looked like a backwards "G" and now everyone else has to know about it too. XD
3. Another video sponsored by online card battler Shadowverse – about dialogue in a card-game battler that sounds rather – naughty. XD (Play five of the same character in a row and you get "I'm coming!" "I'm coming!" "I'm coming!" etc. Not to mention the name of the character he's fighting. . .)
4. A super-short one where the first boss of a game has to call the others and explain "I, uh, accidentally killed the protagonist. . ." XD
5. And another super-short one parodying the whole "named after the two bravest men I ever knew" bit from Harry Potter and his kid Albus Severus (this particular kid is named Goku Naruto, and he is not impressed)
B) Went ahead and watched some more of CellSpex's videos:
1. Her review and thoughts on Small Foot, the movie about yetis discovering humans that I first saw in extremely-shortened form in Mystic Aquarium. She didn't think it was a masterpiece, but she praised the story, said the comedy, while perhaps never great, was also never bad, and that it was an enjoyable film. Same, Cell, same.
2. Her review and thoughts on The Incredibles 2 – doesn't think it lives up to the original (the plot doesn't involve enough conflict for the heroes trying to get relegalized for her tastes, and she wanted more done with Jack-Jack and his weirdly vast array of powers), but she still thinks it's a decent movie and worth a watch. * shrug* Good to know if we ever need a family movie night?
3. Her review and thoughts on Toy Story 4 (with friend KP) – it won't be replacing the second film as her favorite anytime soon, and both ladies had plenty of criticisms about the supporting cast being way out of the spotlight, and Buzz in particularly really not getting much of a chance to shine. But both also agreed it's not a bad movie, and works very well as a Woody character piece if nothing else. Which, hey, fair! I thought it was a good ending to the series myself, but agree that it could have been done a bit better.
4. And a two-parter with her friend KP (first on her channel, second on KP's) with ranking the Pixar films that have been made by March 24th, 2020. General opinion of the ladies is "even when Pixar gets it bad, they do pretty damn well – we just have such high expectations for them that it taints anything that falls short." If you're curious – bottom of the list was Cars 2 (actually, all three Cars were near the bottom, but the first movie ranked a little higher than its sequels), and top of the list was Toy Story 2 (unsurprising given that "it's my favorite animated CGI movie EVER" from CellSpex in the previous video). (Hey, weird, both top and bottom spots were a sequel!)
C) And then, just because I was on KP's channel already and saw the video listed on the side, I watched her list of "Top 10 Disney Sequels (That Actually Have A Point)." Fairly critical of the poor quality of most of them, but she highlighted how she liked how they either provided some more character development (like how the third Little Mermaid sequel explained why Triton was the way he was at the beginning of the first movie), or expanded the world the characters lived in. Her favorite was Bambi 2, which she interestingly considers better than the original movie, as it expands on Bambi and his father and has more of a plot. I'd call that a controversial opinion if I remembered more about Bambi in general. :p
D) For once, did as advertised and caught up with my Atop the Fourth Wall post fic-posting! Today's episode was kind of a weird one – the "comics" being reviewed were actually supposed to be sort of "instructional manuals" for being ninjas. Except that they were pretty poorly written, illustrated, and burned through all the specifically-ninja-related stuff in the first issue, needing to rely on just general self-defense stuff for the second. Which, okay, helping people learn how to defend themselves IS good, but – come on, guys. As Linkara put it, nothing more than a cash grab to capitalize on ninja lovers. But at least we got to see the Ninja-Style Dancer demonstrate some of the moves! And knock himself out by accident. XD
E) And then, for funsies, onlyabidoang races the supernatural/sci-fi Sims in The Sims 3! I'm not normally a fan of that game (art style is bleh in my opinion), but I was curious to see who would win. Looks like werewolves are the fastest, with vampires and human Sims who have maxed their athletic skill coming joint second! Mummies are the slowest by a MILE – it took the mummy contestant SOOO long to reach the end. XD He also threw in some animal Sims to see how they rank up – big dogs are slower than regular Sims, but faster than little dogs, cats, raccoons, and deer, while horses, unsurprisingly, outpace EVERYBODY. So the actual top rank goes to unicorns and horses with maxed racing skill. Good to know! Now I want to see what the Sims 4 version would look like. . .
-->Also played some more Sims 4 -- followed Wheatley to work and cured a bunch of Sims (though I was also reminded that I REALLY need to find and install a mod that forces his coworkers to ADMIT PATIENTS at the very least -- I am getting really annoyed with that pop-up telling me patients are leaving because I wasn't quick enough to admit them, and -- that's not Wheatley's job! What is the receptionist for if they don't DO anything?!), then switched gears and sent Geeker and his boyfriend Dario on a date to The Caboose, a bar in Evergreen Harbor, because why not? More of my Sims in love need to fulfill the Love aspirations. :)
-->Posted Chapter 11 of "Secundus 2!" Hopefully I've caught all the typos and whatnot. . .and hopefully you lot all enjoy it! :) Again, I really enjoyed this particular action sequence, so fingers crossed!
-->And I did some of the RP thing over on Valice Multiverse and put up the Secundus Sunday update on Victor Luvs Alice on tumblr, so officially Productive.
Yeah, not a bad day at all. Also, we now have a TV down in the basement, so now once Mom gets her big exercise mat to put down there, and she and Dad find a treadmill, we'll have a proper workout space! So that'll be nice. :)
Anyway -- have my usual comment to answer, and then I'm probably gonna kept an eye on RP stuff while doing a little TV Tropes binge. :p Tomorrow, I've got some Kevin and Gray to watch, plus more Fallout 4 to play -- I think I might take a moment and go through my mod list, looking for updates and improving my descriptions. So far game does not seem ready to explode, and I'll be using an entirely new game for my "fresh start" Victor, soooo. . .
But, again, that's for tomorrow. For now, comment! Night all!

Missing quotation.
That's all I found.
That was exciting!
Edit: Almost forgot. Incredibles 2 was good (in my opinion) but if you're photosensitive be aware of the many scenes of flashing lights (unless they toned it down for whatever service you use to watch stuff).
