crossover_chick: Doc looking very sarcastically over his shoulder (BTTF: in a sarcastic mood)

I just had to restart my computer a little bit ago because -- well, it was running like complete and utter ass. Couldn't open Google Chrome at all, Firefox kept going into "not responding" mode -- I couldn't even effectively open Task Manager! I SOMEHOW managed to get everything to shut down properly, and it seems to be running okay now, but. . .ugh. Couple that with continual little internet drop-outs throughout the day, and -- yeah. Part of me is thinking it might be time to invest in a new computer. Though damn it, I would really prefer to not shop for one until AFTER the worst of the pandemic is over. . .but given the stats, who KNOWS when that will be? Ugh. . .

Despite this irritation, I have to say that my Friday off was really pretty nice. Some highlights:

-->Had a nice parfait for breakfast (though this was prompted by the fact that I once again forgot to freeze some banana for a smoothie -- fortunately I remembered tonight while getting my ice cream, so I'm prepped for tomorrow)

-->Watched a good amount of YouTube despite my internet's best attempts to stop me (honestly, I don't know if that's my computer or just shitty service. . .)

A) Started off with a few quick and silly things:

1. An animation of the Among Us spacesuit creatures to one of the cold opens of Brooklyn 99, where detective Jake ends up identifying a killer via having them sing "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys (the victim's sister was hiding in the bathroom stall when it happened, and the killer was singing along to the song when he was murdering her brother). Sufficiently amusing if nothing else!

2. A short clip from Batman: The Animated Series where Joker has to pay a bunch of money to the IRS after becoming rich; turns out he's not willing to take on the IRS despite happily throwing himself at Batman constantly XD (To be fair, tax evasion is what eventually put Capone – and, if you're a BTTF extended universe fan like myself, Kid Tannen – in jail, so. . .)

B) Then it was onto Fun With Shorts and cloth! What is cloth? How can you tell various kinds of cloth apart? Well, according to this short, you BURN the fuckers and see what it looks like afterward. Also, wool smells like burning hair when you put it to a candle, which – should have been obvious? And rayon melts, which is probably GREAT for the environment. . .but this was the 40s (or early 50s), so who cares about that? It washes well! :p

C) And then it was onto that hour-long video from Many A True Nerd about Fallout 4 and lockdown! Though it turns out I misinterpreted the title – this was not an essay on people playing more of the game while in lockdown. Instead, Jon (who is our True Nerd) was doing a challenge in the game – can you survive, even thrive, if your Sole Survivor decides upon returning to Sanctuary from Vault 111, "Screw the main plot, I'm staying put and never venturing anywhere again?" Especially if you add in the extra challenge of playing in Survival Mode and thus needing to eat, drink, and sleep? As it turns out, you can! Though you do need to:

a. Have the Vault-Tec DLC installed so you have the vault sinks and whatnot, so you can get infinite fresh water from sticking one on a wall

b. have the Wasteland Workshop DLC installed so you can make cages to trap animals for meat (Jon incorrectly identified this as Nuka-World content, but I know my DLCs)

c. have low Intelligence and decent luck to get the "Idiot Savant" perk early and thus up your XP gains from stuff

d. scrap everything in Sanctuary and then build posts and toolboxes to infinity to get lots and lots of easy XP

e. do some save scumming around the root cellar behind one of the houses to eventually get the crystal you need to build a recruitment beacon for settlers

f. get the "Mr. Sandman" and "Cannibal" perks so you can quietly kill and eat settlers after robbing them of all their caps so you can eventually, with the help of "Local Leader," set up stores and cure your cannibalism thing (don't forget to make a sign once you're free of your dark cravings!)

Yeah it was – it was a trip. XD A lot of fun, and I even learned a few things! Such as settlers need jobs to be happy (suddenly why some of my settlements have happiness going down despite no threats and enough food makes SENSE), and containers' contents are determined when you enter the cell they're in (hence the save-scumming to get the right stuff from the root cellar). Aaaand, even better, this is the start of the "Season of Fallout 4," where John will be posting FO4 stuff every Sunday! Including an essay about why the game is actually pretty good! So one, something to look forward to, and two, probably gonna end up switching my Sims 4 and Fallout 4 days to take advantage. :D

D) Then, over at Atop The Fourth Wall, we have our first episode filmed in Linkara's new house! (In-universe explanation for the move? Linkara accidentally blew up the old one trying to rig defenses to stop Halloween from getting him (he has regular horror storylines in October that leads to him getting kinda paranoid around the holiday).) And it was one of those "it COULD have been good, but. . ." comics – "Emergency #1," the official tie-in to the Emergency! TV show. The firefighters respond to a warehouse fire that is filled to the brim with flammable materials, and learn that it also contained RADIOACTIVE ones too, which are mysteriously missing. And gee, there's a guy at the local hospital with radiation burns. . . It's an interesting story, but a clumsy execution, with everyone being WAAAY too casual about the radiation threat caused by the guy and his theft, and the lead firefighter character doing most of the police's work for them. Hardly the worst, but most definitely not the best.

E) And then it was time for Call Me Kevin and a look at Dead Rising 4! Specifically, its "Capcom Heroes" mode, which gives protagonist Frank West a bunch of costumes of other Capcom characters to dress up as – like X from the Megaman series, or classic Dante from Devil May Cry. Kevin happily wailed on many, many zombies dressed up in said costumes. It looked like a lot of fun, I gotta say! XD

-->Also played some Fallout 4 -- did some more stuff around Vault 81, including telling the kids about the first time Victor fought a deathclaw, then went out and found Ashes (and a caravan getting attacked by scavengers -- helped them fight a couple off), then zipped over to the Red Rocket to pick up my power armor so I could bring it to Vault 81. The cat was successfully reunited with her owner, and I started "Hole In The Wall" with minimal trouble. I have yet to encounter the diseased molerats, though, so I don't know if the mod I've got (which should totally protect me from the disease they carry if I'm bit in the Power Armor, or if Preston's bit) works yet. I guess I'll be finishing up the test on Sunday!

-->Played another five rounds of beanbag game -- unfortunately, I was off enough today that I didn't win a single game. :( Dad won four, and Mom managed to pull out a win on the fifth game. I did come second in the first three games, though, so that's something! I'll take whatever I can get. :p

-->Got in a workout, go me -- I've been neglecting those a bit this week.

-->Wrote a bit more on "In A World Of His Own" -- Victor and Alice are learning Fury's history and --

Hang on, I just realized this character shares a name with the dog the Mouse mentions in his poem from the original "Alice" book, and now I feel like I have to work this into the chapter somehow. *makes note*

ANYWAY, they're all just chatting, figuring our how Fury came to be and whatnot. I don't think this is going to be a very long chapter, at least in the rough draft, but hey, it's a start.

-->And I got my Victor Luvs Alice queue sorted for tomorrow and Sunday (sharing another Poets of the Fall song I found recently -- oh, and I discovered another awesome one this morning, so that's NEXT Saturday covered too XD)

-->And now that I can ACTUALLY DO THINGS ON MY COMPUTER AGAIN, I'm gonna get my Valice Multiverse queue sorted and answer DW comments. Whew. . .

Anyway -- mostly good day except for the computer glitchiness and whatnot. Hopefully tomorrow's a little better in that regard. . .got a bunch of Sims-related videos to watch in the Watch Later queue, and some Sims 4 to play tomorrow. Either gonna go back to the wizard tower and try to fix that up, or play around more with outfits for my intended Malkavian!Alice, or look for more Bloodlines and Fallout-themed content for my eventual challenge save file. . . We'll see what mood I'm in tomorrow! Night all!
