Well That Was A Shit Saturday
Oct. 17th, 2020 11:25 pmLet me break it down for you:
-->Woke up a bit later than I wanted after going to bed later than I intended (2:22 AM to 10:10 AM -- at least it was almost a full eight hours' sleep)
-->Got out of the house later than I wanted for my dentist appointment, and promptly hit bad traffic on the main drag -- fortunately, the trip to my dentist is VERY quick, so I still got there with like two minutes to spare
-->Had to hear again about how I should have my wisdom teeth out; at least this time they accepted my explanation of "they're not really bothering me at present and I don't want to have any sort of surgery during a pandemic if I don't need it right away"
-->Teeth cleaning went reasonably well, though it has left my gums feeling sore from all the scraping
-->Came home to find the tree guys who caused the early end of the beanbag game on Thursday were back to finish taking down the trees on our neighbor's yard (which is right next to ours) and were partially blocking our driveway; fortunately Dad having to move his truck meant that I could get around the cones and get the car into the garage
-->Got on Sims 4 after lunch, figuring it would be smartest to just play right away when my computer was running at its best; had pretty much finished up the interior of my wizard tower renovation when --
-->I heard my Dad yelling about something; turns out those tree guys? They made a mistake while cutting some branches off one of the trees, and dropped a branch on our roof, denting it. Cue Dad yelling at them from the doorway, them yelling back, Mom getting me to call our insurance company (which I had to do twice, as the main office of the guy we use was closed) to see what we should do, and then finally Dad going out to inspect the damage. . .
-->Which turned out to be a lot less than feared. Like, the trim is dented just a tiny bit, and one shingle has a dented corner. So Dad calms down. . .
And goes over to the tree guys to talk about it.
As in, within six feet without a mask.
So THAT happened. Mom made him wash his face and hands thoroughly, wash out his mouth with Listerine, and then disinfected the bathroom with some Clorox wipes, while I stayed in my room and wondered why the fuck I even bother trying to protect myself and others. Dad later had a guilt attack while working out and tried to stay in the basement, but Mom went on the RI Health Department and CDC sites and decided that, since he wasn't around the guys for more than a couple of minutes, and it apparently takes like ten to get enough virus to infect someone, it was probably fine. So he came back up, and we all kinda kept a little more distanced during supper and whatnot. I'm used to staying in my room with the door closed anyway, so. . .
But yeah. That happened. And now I get to watch what happens over the next few days, wonder what's going to happen to us all, and if I should take some preemptive sick days just to be on the safe side.
-->As you might imagine, this was not particularly conducive either to looking for a computer, doing any sort of writing, or watching what I'd planned to watch on YouTube. I did eventually manage the latter after supper:
A) Started with a bit of Plumbella, as she:
1. Plunged into the Sims Medieval again now that she's feeling better about herself and about life (and about her outfit). Today's episode was "I will have a baby even if it kills me and also where is my damn parrot?" XD She eventually found the parrot (though she was unsuccessful in siccing it on anybody, mainly because X-ing out an action in Sims Medieval is no guarantee the Sim won't do it), and she eventually had her baby (thanks to woohooing regularly with servant Reid – all that time spent wooing and marrying Severus Snape last time, and she's already cheating! At least Jesse acknowledges she's being a bit of a slag :p). Said kid is a nightmarish horror thanks to the graphics – Jesse has named her "Bloody Mary" and intends to make her the most evil child alive. XD Yeah, you do you, Jesse. You do you.
2. Checked out the "Brookheights Open World" mod! Yes, there is apparently a mod in development (currently only available in beta form to Patrons on the modder's (Arnie) Patreon) that provides an open-world-style neighborhood called "Brookheights" for Sims to go to. You're supposed to complete some sort of quest to find it, but Plumbella just used cheats after struggling to actually install the mod, then having trouble getting the quest bit to run because she refused to uninstall her other mods first. Meaning – well, I hate to say it, but I don't think she showed off the mod's best face. Mostly because a) things were glitching out because of the other mods (or Sims were just up to Shenanigans because of Wicked Whims) and b) she was going around the world so fast she really didn't show off well what you could DO in it. She seemed really happy with it, though. Me? I – literally do not care about having an open world in the Sims, and wasn't that impressed by what I did see. Though, again, I don't think Plumbella was showing it off well, sadly. . .and let's face it, I'm also in a mood right now, so I'm not really in the right frame of mind to be impressed. I mean, it is a very NICE-looking neighborhood, I'll give it that. There was a lot of care and attention put into the places you can visit. I'm just not interested in the main draw, which is open world. (Especially since I suspect most of these places are rabbit holes, which – I want my Sim to disappear someplace for hours, I'll send them to work, thanks.)
B) And then it was over to The Red Plumbob for a series-wide comparison on weddings, and – DAMN does Sims 4 look lackluster when compared to Sims 2! Red Plumbob showed off all the various cutscenes you can get when your Sim proposes and gets married, failures and successes, and oh man. I miss the chaos and drama of that installment. A Sim who gets second thoughts at the altar literally RUNS OFF and will disappear for a while if you have cutscenes enabled! It's amazing! And Sims 3, even if I'm not a fan of the art style, at least has the coolness of bachlorette parties! And WAAAY more romantic interactions, I noticed. . . And I wonder why I'm not really feeling it lately with my own game. . .
-->And then I did the two asks that were waiting for me on The Valice Multiverse, one of which was my "favorite" kind of ask -- a follow-up to a previous ask where the anon decides to jump upon some detail that my character's response either didn't cover (because it was fucking obvious) or was snarky or angry about (because GOD FORBID my characters be either of those) and harp on it. The original ask in this case was pretty stupid already, about destroying the Moon because "paedos" get their power from it -- I had my "Catch Us If You Can" vigilante Alice answer snarkily about how it's usually money and influence that gives paedos their power, but sure, let's blame the moon. Follow-up ask demanded to know why she didn't point out the obvious fact that destroying the Moon would be bad for the earth and accused her of being totally on-board with destroying it if paedos DID get their power from it. I had Alice snap back, but damn, it's shit like that that makes me want to turn anon off on that account permanently. . .
-->And now I'm just hanging out, looking at stuff on NexusMods and fighting with my computer a bit (think this is the result of McAfee doing a virus scan). Tomorrow -- well, we'll see how it goes. Hopefully I can fit in some Fallout 4 if nothing else. Should go through all my mods and see which ones have updates. Maybe I'll force myself into doing that. Or into working some more on that one meme I want to post on my main tumblr eventually. Do have to answer that one comment in my inbox. . .
Yeah, better get on that. Night all.
