Sort Of Distracted Saturday
Oct. 24th, 2020 11:27 pmIn the sense that I got my room cleaning done, and accomplished most of what I hoped to accomplish today -- but my brain's been kinda stuck in the "thinking about 'hypnotized Victor' AUs" groove all day. I guess I'm just in the mood for that kinda stuff -- it is sort of a "comfort AU" thing for me. And hey, I was able to leverage it into some writing time earlier! So that was something, at least.
Anyway, here's what happened today (and what didn't happen):
-->Slept in a bit late and got a later start on the room clean thanks to getting involved in a twitter thread of Linkara's (reading through him rating a bunch of "Treehouse of Horror" episodes of The Simpsons). . .but I lucked out in that my room, despite having gone an extra week without a clean, was not really that dusty! So that was nice. Got everything with that wrapped up by 2:45, even with a lunch break.
-->We did not play beanbag game today, though -- while the weather forecast called for sunny and 70, it was actually really damn cloudy all day! Looked like it was gonna rain at some points! Decently warm, I suppose, but I don't know if it ever actually reached 70. Meh. We're hoping to play tomorrow, even if it's supposed to be much colder.
-->I did get to Sims 4 today -- finished up the Wizard Tower renovation by doing some landscaping outside. Nothing too complicated, but there's a nice fountain with some gargoyles in the back, and a raised garden bed for planting magical plants. Took a bunch of pictures to show off on the old tumblr this Wednesday!
-->Also watched a bit of the YouTubes:
A) Starting off with a brownie (Mom made some yesterday, om nom) and some clips of Kevin being goofy as representations of different companies. (Him pretending to remember his traumatic childhood for Nintendo, a microtransactions joke for EA, etc.) Fun stuff, and I can always use more Kevin in my life! :)
B) Then it was over to Carl's Sims Guides for a look at some of the inner workings of the Sims 4 – specifically, what causes the dreaded "simulation lag" (the game processing one Sim at a time, and getting stuck for a while if one Sim's actions fail for whatever reason – incidentally, this is part of the reason behind the massive die-offs whenever you shove like 100 Sims in a household,); and why Sims are obsessed with idle animations while doing stuff (the game looks at how much time they have to kill between actions and stuffs those with idles so the Sim is always doing SOMETHING. . .unfortunately, I guess each bite of food counts as a different action). There's no easy solution to these problems, though the better your machine, the less likely you are to run into the former, at least. More reasons to upgrade from this laptop!
C) Then it was over to Plumbella in the evening, to watch her try to build the smallest house possible for eight sims! This is going to be a two-parter, with this first part being "how small can you go with just regular old Sims items?" Turns out, pretty small! Plumbella had to sink a lot of things into the walls, admittedly, and carefully position the beds, but she got a very tiny footprint indeed! No thanks to her first tester Sim, who ended up dying when Plumbella busted out the Murphy bed for the combined living room/master bedroom. Plumbella was not impressed. XD But it all turned out good in the end. I'm looking forward to the second part, which is the Custom Content version. . .
D) And then over to James Turner to catch up with a video I missed earlier – another starter home for eight Sims! Only this time, he had a bit more money, as he started with a family of eight Sims (well, five and three dogs) and used the actual amount such a family gets as his budget: $32,500, since the lot itself cost $1,500. With a little more freedom, he was able to do a fairly nice, if cramped, two-story build! Complete with decorative balconies and columns. XD But seriously, even if he ran out of money to do everything he wanted, the house came out nice – some nicely-furnished bedrooms, bathrooms with everything a Sim needs (including a tub in the upstairs because the house was designed for at least one toddler), a decent kitchen, and some living spaces that – got a good start, at least. XD Hey, it's better than I could do for a starter home, that's for damn sure. :P
-->Finally caught up on a FF.net PM I owed a friend! Really gotta try to start answering those sooner. . .
-->And I'm currently just catching up on the other things that need catching up on, while occasionally checking in on the Valice Multiverse (had a few asks earlier, but it's been quiet since). Typical Saturday night, really.
Okay, time to finish up with the rest of the comments and whatnot. Tomorrow, plan is to catch up on the other YouTube videos I want to watch, play some Fallout 4, and watch Jon's Fallout 4 YOLO run video whenever it pops up. :) I think this is a doable to-do list for a chilly Sunday. Night all!
