Let's Explode Open A Mine!
Nov. 14th, 2020 10:04 pmYup, today is the day where Doc and Marty dug the DeLorean out of the abandoned mine, only to stumble across Doc's gravestone and go hunting for what exactly killed him just one week after he wrote the letter saying he was happy and doing fine. Slowly but surely wrapping up our time with our beloved BTTF characters. . .
Anyway! Today was divided into "unproductive" and "pretty productive" periods:
Unproductive: This morning, where I got sucked into the latest puzzle we got from the library (a bookshelf puzzle with a LOT of fiddly little books) with my breakfast smoothie, and then didn't finish getting my sheets changed and getting dressed until almost one due to helping out my Dad with his new speakers! Yeah, Mom ordered him a set just like mine -- they were SUPPOSED to be a Christmas present, but Amazon delivered them with just a label stuck to the actual box, so there was no hiding what they were. XD So like me he got his present early. Took some doing to actually hook them up to his computer, but he's got them sorted now, so he's happy.
Productive: This afternoon! Where:
-->I sorted out my themes for my computer now that I have my pictures and everything on it (Valice everything -- desktop, background for my mail app, and theme for Firefox are all various bits of Valice fanart I've received :D)
-->I successfully moved my Steam application from C: to D: so that's all on the bigger drive now. I'm leaving Origin on C: because apparently that and Sims 4 gets shirty if you try to run it from other drives.
-->I playtested a few games, namely:
1. Vampire: The Masquerade -- Bloodlines, via downloading the latest Unofficial Patch (which dropped yesterday, look at me right on the cutting edge!) and making a new female Tremere (Crystal Acaster) to run through the tutorial with. Ran fine, with my only problem being my own shitty sneaking at one point.
2. Alice: Madness Returns, via Origin (also my test of my controller -- works just fine!) and starting a new profile (I have my old one, but it's currently living on the D: drive. . .and frankly, I don't particularly mind restarting the game from the beginning). Ran through the opening in London and up through the Duchess's kitchen section of the Vale of Tears -- I can turn EVERYTHING way up, which I deeply appreciate. Yay fun Physx effects! :D
3. Portal, via Steam and loading up some challenge maps! I -- did not do great in any of them. Though I can now do Test 13 in under a minute and a half. Apparently you can complete it in 40 seconds, though -- yikes!
So yeah, doing well on that front! Things continue to load super-fast and run well -- A:MR had a couple of micro-freezes smashing stuff open, but nothing to actually worry about, I think. Still need to test out some of the others, but I'll be doing that tomorrow (including re-setting up Fallout 4, since I need my mods in before I can return to any of my saves!).
-->I actually managed to mostly catch up on Call Me Kevin on YouTube! That's one of my subscriptions down, at least:
1. Started with a sponsored video on Fuser, a game all about being the best DJ remixer you can be! Which mean we had the return (however briefly because he couldn’t see through all the sunglasses) of DJ Kevi! Kevin spent most of his time trying to make the weirdest remixes he could of some favorite songs (when he wasn’t just playing “Mud On The Tires” anyway XD), and having them come out good despite his best efforts. Seriously, he created some bops with all his playing around! I wouldn’t mind hearing some more from him on this game, honestly. I do like me a good remix.
2. Then, this evening, we moved onto Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the new Spider-Man game for the PS5! Kevin was deeply impressed with the graphics – less so with the actual heroics. Miles, uh, screwed up a prisoner transport for the Rhino, and – well, let’s just say a lot of people’s Christmases were probably ruined by the resultant helicopter crash and the Rhino running through a lot of buildings (including a crowded mall). Kevin, of course, trying to maximize the chaos around him didn’t help things. XD It looks like a fun romp, though, so can’t complain there. Maybe we’ll get to see Kevin ruin more superheroics in the future! XD
3. More Among Us! Kevin’s gimmick was being constantly sarcastic; the game’s gimmick was being a weird mess full of confused players. XD Seriously, poor Kevin was getting absolutely baffled by impostors throwing other impostors immediately under the bus; people accusing people apparently at complete random; and just generally not understanding how the game is played by wandering around aimlessly instead of doing tasks and accusing people they were with of impostordom. XD Didn’t help that people didn’t really “get” his gimmick until the last game – where Kevin finally got Impostor himself. XD Still, a good time – I love his little goofy videos on this game, they clearly make him so happy. :D
4. And Paint The Town Red, a weird blocky beat-em-up game which also has a strange story mode about – exploring an alien planet? Kinda reminded me of Doom (2016) with the floating skull enemies and whatnot. . . Kevin much preferred the modes where you can just start bar fights and escape from the Romans in a bloody blaze of glory, though. And given he actually completed the latter level, who could blame him? :p
I'm thinking, if I marathon GrayStillPlays tomorrow at one point, I'll be in a better spot to start catching up on the stuff in my Watch Later again.
-->I got my room reorganized to accommodate the new computer finally. I've been using a old nightstand as a "stand" for my laptop while I got the stuff off it -- now that that's done, I've put said laptop and its cords and mouse away in a drawer under my bed, then put the stuff that USED to be on my desk but now doesn't fit with the new giant monitor and speakers and whatnot there. Moved around a lot of other stuff too -- honestly, what I REALLY need is an entirely new desk arrangement (I was thinking something roughly L-shaped), but that's something to worry about in the future, I think. This'll do for now.
-->I took some time to answer an FF.net PM I've been meaning to get to, finally
-->And I currently plan to finish answering the AO3 comments in my inbox over there while keeping an eye on my Valice Multiverse stuff and DW comments!
So yeah -- slow start, good finish! And I'm gonna make an effort not to stay up TOO late tonight, as I want to get some decent sleep tonight (I keep waking up earlier than I would like lately). Tomorrow, as stated, the plan should be to test out my remaining games (at least the ones I know work; I grabbed the files for my Telltale BTTF game and AMA off the laptop, but I'm not sure if I can install them like that) and catch up on GrayStillPlays, while leaving a little time for Jon's Fallout 4 YOLO run. :) Also, need to get back to writing! Spend too long not doing that. And need to get in some workout time if I can. *nods*
Okay -- time to tackle those AO3 comments before the night gets away from me. Night all!
