Kinda Grumpy Saturday
Nov. 28th, 2020 10:56 pmDad was having computer problems; I had to pull all the sheets and blankets off my bed for the laundry; got hit with a bunch of financial stuff from Mom not that long after I woke up. . .eh, I've just kinda been in a mood on and off today. At least we had some fun Taskmaster episodes to watch today -- TV Tropes said that series 8 was regarded as pretty weak, but I'm finding it amusing (if rather gross at times). And let's face it, there's little that can match the highs of series 7. XD
I also made good progress on the to-do list for the day:
Watch at least MOST of the Plumbella videos I've got in the Watch Later: Done! Seven out of the ten that were in my WL list at the time (I added one this evening as she uploaded again) --
1. Her overall review of Snowy Escape – short version is CAS is good, though she’s not a fan of the “specialized” outfits (like the ones designed specifically for skiing); Build/Buy is amazing and we love it; two of the three neighborhoods are good (one is distressingly empty); the skiing, sledding, and snowboarding are all fun, but she hates the “instant teleport” gondola; she’s a fan of the festivals and lifestyles, and really enjoys hiking! So overall, positive feelings, yay~ So I guess I will pick it up at some point in the future!
2. A review specifically of the world included in the pack, Mt. Komorebi! Basically a longer version of her comments on the world in the previous video, dragging Wakaba for being “distressingly empty” – the town center and train station are completely uninteractable shells, and Plumbella does NOT approve! The other two have their share of shells as well, but there’s more interactable bits with the hiking trails and snow sport slopes and whatnot, so she gives them a pass. Her opinion is that they spent the budget on the first two neighborhoods and had to scramble to make things up on the third. Shame, but – at least all the houses are good this time around?
3. Speaking of houses, who wants a speed build of Plumbella attempting micro-apartments as those weren’t a thing in this pack and she thinks they should have been? Poor girl suffered a crash halfway through her initial attempts, but she soldiered onward and ended up with a really nice lot in the end! Lots of tiny, carefully playtested apartments (with the ones on the end having a bit more space for another bed), balconies, a nice bit of landscaping. . .it’s lovely and I hope she’s put it up on the Gallery for the Snowy Escapers. :p
4. Also speaking of houses, Plumbella and her parents tried to recreate the parents’ house in Sims 4! Cue a lot of judging and complaints about stuff they have in their house that isn’t actually available in the game, and Plumbella turning over the mouse and keyboard once she got tired of all the micromanaging. Dadbella promptly put a couch through a wall trying to create their living room corner seater. XD But it came out pretty nice in the end, even with all the snark flying back and forth. XD I love seeing these videos – they’re all such amusing little shits.
5. A mod review video about a “Teen Lifestyle” mod that includes special traits, aspirations, and part-time careers for teens. You can make bullies, heartbreakers, band geeks. . .it’s pretty interesting, and adds a bit of depth and differentiation to the teen life state. Not a fan of none of the text being capitalized, but that’s just a me thing.
6. And a mod review video for someone who recreated Bonehilda, Plumbella’s most-missed NPC from earlier games! Granted, she’s not an actual maid you can hire – she’s instead a set of CAS skins that turn your playable Sim into the version from The Sims 3. Plumbella wasn’t complaining, though – and she downloaded some other fun mods from the same creator, like a smaller version of the cupcake machine, a rideable motorcycle (cloned from the bike), and the classic Sims 2 telescope to replace the observatory. Good stuff!
7. And wrapped up with a review of the “lore” in the pack, aka one of her “Entire History Of” videos. She went through each family included in Snowy Escape – all three of them – and gave us an overview of their skills, traits, careers, and relationships with others. The drama here comes from the Itos, mainly – the husband is feuding with the patriarch of the Nishidakse family over modernization (Ito for, Nishidake against), while their wives are friends, and the wife happens to be the ex-flame of the husband of the Akiyama family – he wants to leave her in the past, she kinda wants to at least be friends again. Got some good ideas, at least – Plumbella was pleased with the progress!
Play Sims 4: Done! Though not without some glitches:
1. When I first started up the game, I could NOT get Victor and Alice to actually INTERACT until I disabled "always move as bat" for them. The social would always cancel, and they'd teleport in place as a bat. I don't know what caused that, but honestly, I've kind of been meaning to turn that power back to "just do it when I tell you," so no big deal.
2. After finally getting the pair to try a Vampiric Spar (Alice won) and watched Eliza get Emma to deal with a "monster under the bed" problem, I started to have Alice book the vacation to Sulani I intended them to go on -- only to abruptly remember that I didn't put anything for pets in the house I downloaded and tweaked! So I quickly saved the game, hit "Manage Worlds," and threw in a couple of pet bowls, pet beds, and a litter box for Dinah.
3. Successfully booked a three-day vacation on the private island lot, let the family settle in -- and discovered that, I think due to the corner couch the original creator made for the living area, they can't watch that TV or sit down there. And of course I can't fix it because you can't go into build/buy during a vacation. A little annoying, but I have other things for them to do, so. . . The bigger problem was the fact I put the pet bowls in there, but those are live-draggable, so I just moved them to the porch.
4. After a pretty nice day on their island (Emma got a tan; everyone took a swim out in the ocean; Victor and Alice did some fishing and beachcombing -- Victor in particular does a LOT of beachcombing; Emma and Eliza built a sand gnome together), I sent the Sims to one of the local beaches to meet people and see if a festival was going on. No special events, but there was food, so I had everyone go up there to see if anything happened --
And suddenly, after taking my eyes off them for just a couple of minutes, Victor and Alice were having their first fight in the form of a proper Vampiric Duel.
I have NO idea which one of them started it -- my first instinct was Alice, as she tends to be the mean one occasionally and was already in a bad mood thanks to two Sad moodlets stacking; but the new Sentiments system said she was "Hurt" after the fight in regards to Victor, so maybe he challenged her? Either way, their relationship naturally TANKED after the fight, though not to full-on enemy levels. Fortunately I know the secrets to quickly establishing/reestablishing friendships in Sims 4 thanks to James Turner -- taking photos of people and cloudgazing or stargazing with them. A couple of both (along with some apologies), and all bad feelings were almost gone -- along with the associated sad sentiments. Yeah, I don't think these things affect gameplay/Sim relationships as much as one might think. . . But yeah, now they're full-on FIGHTING for no reason?? It was bad enough when Alice was randomly mean! Maybe it's time to seriously consider some more mods -- at least one that stops random fights between Sims who are in love and married! (If it was just the occasional argument, okay, but -- sheesh! As if I'm not nervous enough Eliza will pull out the "reset relationships" mind power for no reason. . .)
So yeah -- productive Sims session I guess, but I don't like it when the game makes my OTP fight. :(
Write some more on "Londerland Bloodlines": Did indeed! Got Alice through the wrecked-out train station and into the yard itself -- she's currently sneaking past all the guards with Obfuscate (and I've hinted she's got it up to level 3 with all her practice), and will hopefully get into the actual building soon. Where she will face early-game Obfuscate's greatest nemesis -- doors. XD I'll get you to that interior office somehow, Alice!
Get in a bike ride: Yes indeedy, in the midst of the Plumbella marathon! And of course, that meant a little more of Jon’s Fallout 4 Survival Playthrough! This chunk was mostly him just doing the Silver Shroud stuff – and lucky me, since he hadn’t done a male character run before, he showed off all the Shroud lines because he wanted to see how the male character did them. Both he and I were charmed by the adorable awkwardness of the delivery. XD He’s trying, God help him, but he just seems a little shy in the role occasionally. Which makes it perfect for my Victor run. . . At any rate, Grills took down Kent’s three primary targets, met up with Hancock to discuss Sinjin, then swapped back to his regular gear for a time to take out Smilin’ Kate and Northy – though, as it turned out, he was kind of able to cheese both fights. Smilin’ Kate he took out while in Bunker Hill, sniping her and some of her gang from inside the walls; Northy, meanwhile, had his gang wrecked by a rogue Protectron Scourge and proved to be easy pickings once Jon caught up with him. Along the way, he decided he might as well catch up with Ada, start her questline, and send her to join the others at Hangman’s Alley. Then it was back to Goodneighbor to discover Kent was kidnapped by Sinjin! This did not stop Grills from getting a good night’s sleep (saving!), but he did summon a vertibird outside the town itself so he could fly to the closest point he’d discovered to save a long walk to save Kent. And he can clear out some more of Rhys’s hated ghouls along the way, how nice. Left him getting excited over the discovery that you can indeed go into third person during a vertibird flight and watch the trip that way. They are pretty cool – shame they’re pretty much the exclusive property of the Brotherhood for most of the game, and Victor isn’t going to be keen on them.
And I answered all the current asks on Valice Multiverse, so it's time to catch up with tumblr, then -- hmmm. I have been tempted by some Fallout 4 speed run videos lately (one I watched was absolutely WILD -- a "Warp%" where, with the help of an interesting loading bug and multiple saves, a player was able to complete the game in less than five minutes with a prewar Nate "warped" to the Nuclear Option quest). We'll see what happens. :p
Also, list for tomorrow: Catch up on Linkara (three episodes), see about catching up again on Call Me Kevin and GrayStillPlays, ACTUALLY PLAY Fallout 4 instead of just making notes about what I want to do in this playthrough, watch Jon's latest YOLO episode. At least three of these should be doable! Night all!
