Smashed Out The To-Do List Today
Dec. 23rd, 2020 11:24 pmTake a look at this:
1. Finish off Kevin and Gray in my Subscriptions: Check! In order by creator –
Call Me Kevin: A) A sponsored video for Dying Light, a co-op zombie survival game where you do various missions to collect loot and whatnot. Kevin played with his friend Will (the guy from Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes), and, as per usual, was a total troll – climbing high areas to watch Will fight all the zombies, locking him out of safe areas, cheating in races they were having together – it was a lot of fun. Though, given Will spent most of the episode wearing an orange glow-in-the-dark skeleton onesie, maybe he deserved such treatment. XD And some of what Kevin did came back to bite him in the ass – such as abandoning Will behind a locked door, only for Will to unlock it while dying and let the enemy Kevin was trying to escape in; or throwing all his grenades at Will for shits-and-giggles, only to really miss them in the final monstrous fight against the big guys in the jail area. Oh, Kevin. . .never stop being a feral wildcard in these games. XD
B) More Among Us, with Kevin playing as Santa! Santa ran into some early problems in his lobby, with a few players being rather toxic and not appreciating Kevin’s rather goofy playstyle – fortunately, our hero of the day was a nice little elf named Henry, who happily became Kevin’s buddy and even helped form a little posse of elves to go around together! Henry even amused them all by venting constantly when he was impostor, much to the confusion of the players who joined later. XD It was an amusing and surprisingly wholesome episode, with Henry even asking if he could be Santa after Kevin left (and Kevin cheerfully handing over the mantle). :) Good stuff.
GrayStillPlays: A) More GTA V Stunt Races! Gray went for ones that explicitly said totally impossible this episode! “You Can’t Do This” having super-hard wall rides and forcing the driver to go through the course BACKWARDS after completing it? Gray CAN do that! “100% Impossible” bike ramps? Ha, Gray broke only the smallest of sweats. A specific “GrayStillPlays Challenge” that forces him into first-person? It probably made him throw up a little in his mouth with all the loop-de-loops, but still he managed it! “WTF Ramp 1000% Impossible?” Gray will lose all feeling in his balls, but IT WILL BE DONE. Dude just does NOT give up. Like I’ve said before – inspiring. In a slightly worrying way.
B) More Fun With Ragdolls: The Game! Because there are still more impossible challenges to complete. Ones made especially for him, no less – which feature damn near impossible parkour while being smacked with hammers and shot at by canons; playing Turbo Dismount-style “Frogger” on foot; and having to figure out how to properly yeet oneself on the launchpads so you can actually reach a spot where you can hit the end level flag. Poor Gray – I thought he suffered in the last video, but you could hear in his voice just how much he hated these boards. He puts himself through so much vidya-game pain to entertain us. *pats him*
2. Watch the next OXBox and OXtra Christmas Challenges: Check! Here they are –
OXBox Xmas Challenge Day 11 – Next head-to-head-to-head challenge? The “Tetris Effect Connected Takedown Challenge!” The three played Tetris Effect Connected, which is basically Evil Tetris – the AI randomly makes blocks appear and disappear in your play area, adds lines at the bottom, all sorts of fun stuff! Technically they were playing in co-op mode, but they of course made it into a competition – last one standing wins! Mike claimed he was awful at Tetris in the opening banter, but from what I could see, he was doing pretty well most of the game. Andy was the first one out, and then the AI adding lines kicked out Mike and Jane ALMOST at the same time – Jane was doing just that bit better and lasted just that bit longer, so she takes the Christmas point! Meaaaaning, the scores are now Andy 2, Jane 2, Mike 3. Depending on how Christmas Eve goes, Mike either takes it home, or a tiebreak must be arranged. . .
OXTRA Christmas Challenge Day 6 – Luke vs Ellen in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, “Spider-Cat Takedown Challenge!” Using a special unlocked “Spider-Cat” costume (which, I though put kitty ears on the Spider-Man mask or something; it actually gives Miles a backpack with a cat wearing a Spider-Man mask in it!), the two competed to do the most takedowns of criminals in ten minutes. And, to make things more difficult, they decided at the very beginning that it would be the most takedowns using Spider-Cat (a rare, randomized happenstance where Spider-Cat jumps on the thug)! Though Ellen said that if NEITHER of them got the special takedown to trigger, then they’d just count the most generally. Luke started out – he got a bunch of regular takedowns, one Spider-Cat takedown, and he got Miles killed twice (and one unfortunate driver when he botched a mission). Ellen got a bunch of regular takedowns, TWO Spider-Cat takedowns (one at the beginning, one at the end), and got Miles killed once post-time (and also failed to save the driver when she got the same mission Luke did). So Ellen takes the Christmas point – which means they’re tied 3-3! Looks like tomorrow decides everything for them – and I think I already know what the challenge is. . .
3. Edit another gift fic: Check! Again, did it this morning, before lunch – my other “Londerland Bloodlines”-themed fic, for a friend who has a version of Claudia from The Vampire Chronicles as a muse and who has previously enjoyed me writing fic putting her in the same universe as Alice. So that works out!
4. Draft another gift fic to tumblr: Check! Also done this morning before lunch, with me putting up yesterday’s PotC fic in the drafts. They all get set to fire tomorrow evening, yay~
5. Play Fallout 4 and test out the new mods I've downloaded if nothing else: Check-a-roonie! :D I couldn’t test out ALL of them (the ones that fix the bad cryo effects would require me to have a cyro weapon, and obviously I can’t check “Nuka World Extended II” until I actually do Nuka-World, but I was able to check out (via my old “modding” save) “Diamond City Plus” (it is pretty damn cool to see a proper farm with proper farmhands, a games room, a laundry. . .I like it!), “Wasteland Survival Guide 5 – More Map Markers” (which makes a perk magazine that only marked Diamond City on your map before instead mark FIVE locations, which makes it slightly more useful), and “Commonwealth Wilderness Overhaul” (which adds new stuff to the wilderness – like chickens! I stumbled across a bunch of them while wandering about, killed one, and cooked it with one of my new recipes. . .and the game gave me the “cook one of the new Far Harbor recipes” achievement. XD Not quite, game!). Ran into a few glitches along the way – a couple of crashes, mainly – but everything seems to be working together well! And it was frankly just nice to, you know, get in and PLAY THE GAME. I did a couple of quests, cooked a bunch of food, visited settlements, ran into “Von Trapp” and what I think was his butler, asking me to help him wipe out radstags so his albino kill could be extra special (I’m pretty sure they’re from “Tales of the Commonwealth” and I love them XD), killed FIVE MILLION mole rats. . . I’m looking forward to The Final Restart in the near future!
(And for those curious – I did end up cleaning the DLC, after verifying for sure that I had the right version of FO4Edit. Really hoping that does NOT come back to bite me.)
6. Get in a workout: Check! Another round on the bike, and some more of Jon’s Fallout 4 Survival Playthrough! I picked up with Grills Bears on the Yangtze sub, agreeing to help the captain repair it – though not for free. Grills managed to get him to agree to hand over some pre-War money, but pushing again got Zao annoyed with him – whoops, not enough Charisma! (Should have put on the dress, Grills.) This did not deter our proud Brotherhood member, who went back to shore, told the nosy kid watching the sub that he was swallowed whole by a monster, then stopped back at the Boston Airport and the Prydwen to rest up, get some water, and scrub his rads before heading out on new adventures! His goal? The north, to take care of some business. Firstly, he stopped by County Crossing, to convince the settlers to turn over some of their crops to the Brotherhood. His first, more persuasive attempt in the power armor didn’t go down, so he put on his dress and threatened the settlers into turning them over. Lovely BOS business there. :p After that, it was over to Egret Marina and the beach nearby to take care of a Courser –
And I’m not sure he ever found said Courser, as from that point in the video on Jon was basically in constant firefights. We started off with raiders versus synths versus a Brotherhood vertibird (which ended up crashing); after Jon finished taking them out (and getting a bunch of book return tokens, which made him happy – he can get that Surgical Journal perk magazine the next time he swings by the Library!), he found some Rust Devils with a giant Annihilator Sentry Bot nearby. He managed to snipe the Devils from the roof, and kill the Sentry Bot with judicious use of sniping and cover. And then he started his victory march, only to stir up a MIRELURK QUEEN, forcing him to retreat back to cover and eventually lob some frag grenades at it. And after THAT was done, he descended into the nearby subway station, killed the raiders there – then made the mistake of opening a chained locked door and releasing some ghouls, including one very tough Withered. I left him in the middle of that firefight – there’s only a couple of minutes left in the video, so either he takes them out and decides that’s enough and finds a mattress to sleep on, or he gets killed and the next episode is him redoing most of this. XD
Booyah! Accomplished everything I wanted to accomplish today! Even watched a video about "survival enhancement" mods just cause I could (and because I wanted to know a little more about the "Advanced Needs 2" mod -- while I have been mentally poking it with a stick because I think it would be neat to have prompts to eat, drink, and sleep in-game without dealing with some of the other stuff in Survival Mode, I'm not sure I want to go that far down the rabbit hole? There's "this is fun stuff to have as an option" and "this is going to end up annoying me," and I suspect that would eventually end up in the latter. Plus it looks a biiiit glitchy. . .probably should be happy with what I've got ALREADY). And my aunt dropped our Christmas presents and my birthday present off, so we're all set there! Aand FF.net finally started sending e-mails alerting me of PMs again, so I'll have something to remind me to do them, yay.
Right now, though, I promised a tumblr friend we'd work on the writing thing tonight, so I'm going to answer my DW comment, then head off to do that. Christmas Eve to-do list:
1. Edit the last gift fic
2. Get all gift fics queued to post on the 25th
3. Watch the final OXBox and OXtra Christmas Challenges
4. Watch Linkara's Solo comic adaptation review
5. Play Sims 4
6. If Possible -- Watch James Turner's new "3 Brothers" LP, and the Sims videos I have in the Watch Later (we are watching the 1951 adaptation of A Christmas Carol tomorrow night, so my time with YouTube is going to be more limited)
I think that'll work! Let's get this comment sorted and get over to the doc. Night all!
