Happy New Year's Eve!
Dec. 31st, 2020 07:38 pmOnly a few hours away from being able to say "if nothing else, at least 2020 is over." :p And I'm happy to report that my tiny (yet lengthy) to-do list has indeed been completed:
1. Play Sims 4, the Test Save, and celebrate New Year's Eve with that Victor and Alice: Check! It was a nice day – they got their scholarship results back (they both got the “Willow Creek Resident” and “Low Income” scholarships, but didn’t get the skill-based ones, sadly); went on a date to Waterside Warblers down in San Myshuno (one of the two karaoke bars – date consisted mostly of sitting and chatting on a couch, though I did have them do some karaoke together (badly XD), and Victor successfully proposed to Alice!); and celebrated New Year’s Eve successfully (Alice decorated, they both made the “complete an Aspiration Milestone” resolution because that was fulfilled the minute they had a successful date (Soulmate aspiration, last thing they had to do for the first level), and I bought them a TV so they could watch the countdown – and a double bed so they could woohoo afterwards). It was very nice, and I was happy to spend New Year’s Eve with them! Back to Newcrest on Saturday!
2. Marathon my "YouTube End of Year" playlist – Linkara's "15 More Screw-Ups of AT4W," OXBox's "What The Hell Happened This Year" quiz, OXtra's "Presh Mems," and Call Me Kevin's "Rewind:" Check! Watched in order --
1. Linkara, “Yet Another 15 Screw-Ups Of AT4W” – a two-parter for a change, where he recapped 2020 in general in the first part (and let his “government liaison” character, Alan, have an EPIC rant against Trump because he’s been bottling up these feelings for four years!), and did the actual list in the second part (ranging from “this is pure opinion but enough of you called me out on it I’ll put in the list” to “I said some pretty nasty things about creators in the past and I want to apologize and try to do better going forward”). Good stuff, especially when he can sneak in new jokes and rants based on mistakes. And I do appreciate that he’s the kind of guy who genuinely tries to be better going forward, as evidenced by him trying to be less caustic toward people for making bad comic books. (Though he still calls out bigotry and racism and whatnot for what it is – Frank Miller, you do not get a pass for writing the occasional good story!)
2. OXBox, “What the Hell Just Happened: So You Think You Know 2020? - Quiz of the Year!” – The OXBoxers have a quiz on 2020! Andy served as quizmaster to Jane and Mike, quizzing them on things like Eurogamer headlines regarding gaming news (and I got a question both Jane and Mike missed – they didn’t know that Amazon was making a Fallout TV series! With the creators of Westworld, so I assume we’re back on the west coast with the classic games); Metacritic user reviews (guess the game the positive review is talking, as they wanted to avoid the Standard 2020 Negativity (tm) – didn’t get any of these); the “guess what game got an HD remake this year” picture round (again, I got a question the contestants missed, correctly identifying the original Destroy All Humans! after recalling their lists on the remake); the “guess the game based on its music” round (I only guessed the Doom Eternal music because of how obvious it was, but I have a new awesome theme to check out – Animal Crossing New Horizons, as it turns out, has a beautiful piece of music reserved for those who play at two in the morning); and the Lightning Round (quick questions on video games, didn’t get any of these). Mike ended up winning by a single point, though I was sure Jane had him when she managed to name more Phasmophobia ghosts. So Mike is Christmas AND New Year’s Champion, yay~ Good for him!
3. OXtra, “10 Times We Forged Precious Memories on Outside Xtra in 2020 - THANKS FOR THE PRESH MEMS” – 10 moments of that rare thing in 2020 – positive memories! Courtesy of Luke and Ellen. :) Featuring things like Luke visiting Ellen’s ACNH island for Egg Day, and her enthusiasm for the collectibles coming off like him suddenly being thrust into an Easter horror movie; Ellen playing Cyberpunk 2077 and discovering that not only is her female character naked when she looks in a mirror (resulting in copious blurring), her boobs clip through her shirt when she’s looking for new outfit choices; Producer Jon restoring Ellen’s old Game Boy for her, which was very sweet; and Luke happily narrating the slaughter of all the villagers by the werewolf in a game of “Werewolf” (you know, the party game) – they’d correctly identified the werewolf, Luke just thought it would be funny in the final round for the werewolf to kill everyone. XD Good stuff, and deeply amusing. I may not watch every video, but I definitely like these guys.
4. Call Me Kevin, “CallMeKevin Rewind 2020” – posted on Christmas, but I left it until now because it really is more of a New Year’s thing. An hour and a half of classic Kevin clips, yaaay! Some of them even twice, for some reason. o.O But hey, we had Kevin with one of his earliest Among Us friends, Pepe Popo; Kevin kicking Kevin Jr. into his yard; Kevin scaring the CRAP out of poor RTGame in Phasmophobia; Kevin playing a variety of awful rip-off mobile games; Kevin watching strange and hilarious Irish television; and Kevin expanding the Kevin Cinematic Universe with Tomodachi Life! (And I finally learned why he stopped playing that one – the save file corrupted! He’s trying to fix things, though, so hopefully we can get back with the gang there eventually.) Good times, good times – I’m so glad I finally subscribed to him (and Gray) this year. 2020 would have been a lot harder to take without their humor bolstering me up.
And that about covers my day, besides "having cereal with banana for breakfast and trying to make sense of the Hogwarts 3-D puzzle roof some more" this morning and "pizza and QI for lunch" this afternoon. We're gonna have supper and start the LEGO marathon in just a bit, so I'll see you all in 2021! Fingers crossed it's better, folks!
