crossover_chick: Alice (Wonderland) looking kind of confused (AMA: WTFery?)

I've been trying to work out what makes my mouse do that annoying "double click" thing when I'm trying to single-click stuff, and it seems to be kind of dependent on how I orient the mouse -- certain positions are more likely to do the "double click" than others. Since my mouse is wired in, I'm starting to wonder if it might be the cord. This particular mouse DOES come with a wireless option, which I might try later to see if that helps. For now, though, I think I've figured out the best position for it to not "double click" when I want it to single click. Just gotta remember to keep it that way. . .

Anyway -- pretty good Saturday, even if I woke up a little earlier than I would have liked. Did very well on the old to-do list:

1. Free Writing Day -- probably should clean up that one other tumblr draft I have: Check – I did indeed clean up that other tumblr draft I had, about the people who teach Londerland Bloodlines!Alice various things about Kindred and Kindred society! With a special mention for Beckett teaching Alice that she can learn out-of-clan Disciplines (it’s harder, but it’s doable), leading me to decide that Alice is going to have both a bit of Fortitude and a bit of Celerity by the endgame. What, super-speed and super-toughness is DEFINITELY going to appeal to her! And I imagine they’d work well with her Obfuscate. :)

2. Watch the three OXBox list videos in my Watch Later and keep up on YouTube Subs: Check! Even got in an extra video, as you shall see below –

A) Actually started before lunch with a video over on the Nexus, for a Fallout 4 mod I’ve occasionally poked at – “Subversion – The Institute-Railroad Alliance Alternate Ending.” It’s a mod designed to allow you to convince Desdemona that you CAN reform the Institute as its director and free the synths, then gives you some of the tools to do just that – either convincing certain people to support your “free the synths” cause so you have a majority vote in the Directorate, just straight-up murdering everybody, or – in the video I watched – forcing their surrender by getting some muscle to back up your views. Such as Z1 from the regular Railroad ending, X6-88 as your courser companion, and – if you’ve put in the work to back them up – the Minutemen, who will stay as a sort of “Insurance Policy” to make sure the SRB and such other elements don’t start acting up. It’s an interesting mod, though the dialogue in it is – choppy. Kind of literally, in fact – the mod makes use of sewing together lines already in the game to form new conversations. Sometimes it works, sometimes it feels like “uh, this is a total non-sequitir, why did you choose THAT line for them to say?” I don’t think I’ll use it, but it was fun to check out!

B) Then, after lunch, it was over to my Subs for another James Turner video, and a return to the Cottage Living LP! (If you’re wondering where he’s been, he’s recently celebrated his second anniversary with his girlfriend Deli; had to take Bowser to the vet for some apparently minor surgery; and he got his second dose of the vaccine, yay!) Today ended up kind of being building-focused – James spent a little time right at the beginning just cleaning up the front of the house (it’s now going to have a nice circle pathway with a fountain and a garden), and moving the little selling station and the workshop shed over by Trenton and Hazel’s (the latter of whom is pregnant AGAIN – dude, when did you hit “try for baby” again??). He then, after the usual round of farm chores and aging up little Angus into a "Wild" toddler (and he is human, he’s just blue), took a gig for Hazel and sent her back over to the Realm of Magic house, where she did a nice modern kitchen renovation for the family, using the new swatches provided by the recent update. :) Though apparently she forgot a sink, whoops. I think James was distracted by how much paint and chocolate sauce their toddler was spraying on the ground. XD And THEN, after heading back home to instant-upgrade some animal sheds and take care of some needs, Chaz headed over to their shop, where James did a renovation of THAT inspired by one of the people over on his sub-reddit, who redid the entire interior to look a lot better and less cramped. There’s even a special room for frogs on one side. XD Along with a coffee machine, and a whole bunch of selling fridges. Chaz managed to sell a few things while he was there, including Hazel’s fizzy dragon fruit juice, which provided most of the profit with a selling price of over $1,000. XD So yeah, things are going well – the farm’s more or less under control (with the “oversized for real” plots all full of aubergines this time), the store is doing decently, Hazel had a successful gig, and next time, there’s gonna be another baby! :) Good inspiration for my own gaming!

C) Then, after my own Simming (see below), we moved onto the OXBox/OXtra lists! We had:

I. “7 Fates Worse Than Death You Gave Your Unlucky Enemies” – think killing your enemies in video games is the worst thing you can do to them? Oooooh no no no – how about freezing them solid, ripping their brain and spinal column from the corpse, and then putting that in a robot ninja, like in Mortal Kombat 11 if you play as cyborg ninja Frost? Or handing over a woman to her creepy stalker, who then sails off into the sewers, instead of just killing her in Dishonored? Or killing the residents trapped in a never-ending terrible simulation, leaving the guy who designed the simulation completely alone in – oh, wait, that’s that jackass Vault-Tec scientist Dr. Braun from Fallout 3. I’m not feeling any guilt over that one! (And not just because I’ve only played Fallout 4.)

II. “7 Boss Fights Against YOU, From the Last Game” – Sequels that know that the most terrifying and emotional boss you could fight is one of your old player characters! Or at least a representation of them. Go Dark Side in Jedi Academy and face former PC and noted ass-kicker Kyle Katarn! Seek to finally end the artificially-extended Age of Fire in Dark Souls 3 and take on the “Soul of Cinder,” who at least partially apes some popular playing styles from the original game! Try to unlock the full power of the Vampire Killer whip in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and be forced to battle the memory of its previous owner, Richter Belmont! And, as a sort of “honorable mention,” apparently a skeleton that trains Twilight Princess Link is the Ocarina of Time Link after he died, desperate to pass along his gnarly sword moves. ...Video games are weird.

III. “7 Little Details That Impress Us Beyond All Reason in Games” – Apparently this is a commenter-driven sequel to an older video I don’t remember at the moment, about little but satisfying details in games. Such as the projectors providing lore and backstory in Control actually working as projectors – you step in front of them, you see your shadow obscuring the video, and if you pick them up and move them, the video keeps playing on whatever new surface is available until you smash them against a wall! Or Lara Croft in both Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider taking a moment to wring out her ponytail whenever she gets out of the water after a swim. Or Geralt gently nudging his scabbards when he puts his sword away after combat to have a better angle to sheath them at (Mike showed us the animation isn’t PERFECT, but they tried!). And best of all, one of the Halo games not only has legs for its first-person protagonist, but it also ADJUSTS YOUR STANCE depending on the weapon you’re carrying. Very cool. :D

D) Then after supper it was back to the Subs for Call Me Kevin and GTAGuessr! Yeah, remember how in his video on the creation of SimsGuessr, James Turner said one of the things that inspired him was someone having made a GTA V version of GeoGuessr? Here’s Kevin playing that game, trying to figure out where Franklin is on a map of GTA V via his selfies! His performance was – variable. And just kind of kept getting worse, honestly. XD First round, getting two close and two way off, he got 1,088/2,500; second round, getting decently close but just far enough away from most targets to get zero points, he got 836/2,500; third round was so rough that the only time he scored decent points was via getting a repeated picture, and didn’t even bother showing the score (though from addition, it should have been 527/2,500). And then we didn’t even see all of the next few games, except for the time when he got ONE location and scored 295/2,500. Ooof. Fortunately his last game he was able to pull it back with some really spot-on locations, one fail because he had no idea where that covered bridge was, and one “almost there” where he picked the wrong side of a merging overpass, with a final and best score of 1,481/2,500. Good job, Kevin! I still think you’re doing better than I ever did on SimsGuessr! (Which I promptly recommended to him in my comment :D)

E) And finally we had GrayStillPlays with one of his terrible mobile discoveries involving bending people in strange ways – Sleep Well!, a game all about manipulating pure ragdoll people (and pets) to get them out of various situations. We started with a woman in her underwear being late for work and needing to be pulled out of the automatic door of what I assume was a subway, and moved onto such scenarios as a cat needing to be shooed out of bed (Gray instead tried to make the cat evict the human); getting a guy off the train tracks where he’d apparently decided to take a nap (Gray of course had him hit by the train); various levels of having to turn off a light or close a window or kick the off button on a vacuum cleaner to actually get to sleep (Gray won most of these by accident trying to cause chaos); hiding the evidence of affairs (either by throwing another woman’s underwear into a drawer or yeeting said other woman out of a window); stopping a partner from snoring by GRABBING A GIANT KNIFE AND popping balloons (what?); waking up a driver who’d fallen asleep at the wheel; dragging an unfortunate farmer out of the “abduction zone” of a UFO; and breaking up a fight between a ragdoll cat and a ragdoll dog (Gray had way too much fun playing out the fight with them). Usual ridiculous chaos from our favorite chaos master. XD

3. Play Sims 4 and work on my building save: Check! Went back to the house build I’ve been working on on-and-off for a while, where the outside is kind of inspired by a house I’ve seen on car trips. I put a few finishing touches on the kitchen/dining room (a few new pictures for the walls and a shelf in the corner), then did the mudroom from the outside porch (pretty simple, just some stone and brick and a cobweb in a high corner), the downstairs bathroom (which took a bit but after I swapped around where the sink and the end counter piece with the decorations were, it came out all right) and made a start on the living room (NEARLY made it a bit smaller to fit a chimney as I felt it needed a fireplace – however, I couldn’t find any good matching brick, so I ended up undoing all of that and just sticking a chimney decoration on top). House has an older vibe thanks to me using a lot of Cottage Living stuff, so it can be hard to match things, and I’m struggling a bit with curtains, but it’s all coming along! Nice low-stress project while I wait for better things.

4. Get in a workout: Check – another day on the bike, another episode of Jon’s Original FO4 playthrough! We’re getting into the endgame here, with Episode 33. Miss Jon wandered down to Diamond City, where, upon looking for the radio station, she found herself confronted with not one, but two people wanting her to suffer the consequences for her actions in “Diamond City Blues.” Namely, Henry Cooke’s daughter, Colette, was looking for him – Miss Jon managed to head her off by saying she barely knew the guy (she certainly doesn’t know where he disappeared to) – and Nelson Latimer’s father had discovered Miss Jon helped kill his son and was looking for revenge – Miss Jon chose to be sarcastic, then murder him from cover, steal his clean black suit, and dump him in the water supply. Passing several Diamond City guards along the way with the corpse. XD This game. . . Anyway, after that excitement, she did actually find Travis’s radio station and install all the new parts (with some fiddling – the game actually DOESN’T tell you what to install where, so you gotta just change out parts as necessary until you get the broadcast signal strength you need), then headed back down to the Institute –

Where she found everyone gathered in the reactor room, ready to turn on the power! Father allowed Miss Jon the honors, and the reactor was powered up without a hitch. He then told her another Directorate meeting would be starting soon and, as the up-and-coming leader, he wanted her to attend, freeing him from doing so. Miss Jon was all for it. . .but then she bumped into Alan Binet, who asked her to clear out some feral ghouls from College Square for a synth scavenging team. Seems like they’d moved back in after she killed the “leader” for the Brotherhood. As Past!Jon fully approved of Alan’s views on synths having souls, he had Miss Jon agree and warp back over to kill the new “leader” before the meeting, commenting that he did enjoy the fact that you only had to kill one specific enemy in any of these missions – made it easier to complete quickly, and do it super stealthy if you wanted!

Anyway, after reporting back to Alan (and getting no reward except XP, hmph), Miss Jon sat down at the Directorate meeting, where she learned that the other directors had decided they needed to take down their enemies – specifically, the Brotherhood of Steel. Miss Jon emphatically did not want a war with the Commonwealth (Past!Jon going on about how he wanted to free all synths who actually wanted to leave, give them rights and whatnot, and maybe even ally with the Minutemen so they could handle the day-to-day stuff up top), but felt that taking out the Brotherhood was the right call because, well, they’re assholes who shoot at her now. She ordered them to work on weapon development (wanting to cut down on synth production), then found Father wanted to talk to her again.

About the Railroad.

And how she needed to kill them because he considered them a misguided threat.

And yup, I was right – Miss Jon is Jon’s Institute Run. Past!Jon was not happy to do it, but felt that he could change things and help more synths as the Director than as a member of the Railroad. So, following the directive to “Kill Desdemona,” he went down to the catacombs, hid well out of sight of everyone, and sniped off the leader, hoping that this meant that the rest of the Railroad could hide away from Institute eyes and regroup – saving the rest of them with one single murder.

I left it with Past!Jon abruptly realizing the quest had updated to “ah, no, you have to kill ALL the named characters.” Whoops. He made a speech and everything! I wonder if his guilt over this is why Bacon of No Guns ended up his Railroad character. . . Just a bit over two episodes left to go! And me wondering if it would be weird to go leave a comment on this episode about how Jon would probably like the “Subversion” mod I talked about up in the “YouTube videos I watched today” section. . .

Additionally:

-->Spent some time this morning before lunch getting my pictures ready for the next Newcrest Adventures update – the trip to GeekCon! Yes, that I played like two, three weeks ago. You see how I can take a few weeks to just do building projects and such while I wait to figure out what I’m gonna do about this “career progress not actually progressing” glitch. XD

-->After watching Kevin play GTAGuessr, I had to play another round of SimsGuessr. And I actually did pretty good this time, getting really close on four out of the five locations! Though, hilariously, I completely messed up on the fourth one, which I should have recognized as Bridgeview in Newcrest. I THOUGHT it might be in Newcrest, but then I started second-guessing myself and thinking it was either Willow Creek or Magnolia Promenade. . .hmph. Still got 13,680/20,000, though! :D

So yeah, nice productive day, even if my mouse was annoying me for parts of it! Feel like I'm keeping up well with stuff. And I've got steady replies going over on Valice Multiverse, so let me set up my Sunday to-do list and head back over there:

1. Write some more on "Learn To Love Again"

2. Watch Spiffing's latest FO4 video, some more Lore By Night, YouTube Subs, and Jon's FO4 YOLO ep

3. Play more Bloodlines and complete more of the Hollywood missions

4. Get in a workout

5. Get more done with tumblr queues

This feels doable -- at the very least, I should be able to get the pictures and some starter text drafted for my next Newcrest Adventures update! And maybe later tonight I'll put the specific Lore By Night videos I want to listen to in my Watch Later. . .we'll see. For now, good night!
