No, not because I had to clean my room, or had an extra-late lunch, or anything like that.
No, we got a fucking Tornado Warning today about 5 P.M.
Yeah, seriously. I'd heard on the radio that we were due some rain, possible thunderstorms in the afternoon from a fast-moving system, and sure enough, by 4:30ish, it was damn near pitch black outside. I kept monitoring the situation, and the moment I saw a flash of lightning, I went and told my parents (who actually hadn't noticed it getting stormy), shut down my computer, and got on my iPad for a little while to play some games.
Maybe five minutes later, my mom yells at me to get into the cellar because we've got a Tornado Warning.
Yeah, I just -- we all got down there, and the next forty-five minutes was trying to watch updates on Mom's phone while my aunt texted her constantly and made the whole situation just that much more difficult. I REALLY did not like having to stand around down there on the exercise equipment, trying to figure out what was going on through the tiny live feed video. Fortunately the warning was lifted at 5:45 PM, as the storm system was, again, fast-moving, but it was NOT a pleasant experience. *sigh* Can we just -- rewind time about ten years? I want to go back to some of my biggest problems being my computer only JUST being able to play Alice: Madness Returns.
Anyway, despite that, I did get the majority of my to-do list sorted --
1. Clean my room: Check – started after breakfast at about 11:15 AM, finished around 1:25 PM – not too long before we had lunch! Fortunately it wasn’t a particularly hard clean this week – with the windows closed, the dust has less of a chance to pile up. And I didn’t have to worry about washing my sheets as the set I had on there had developed some holes, meaning I just had to chuck ‘em and put on some new ones. *shrug* And so life goes!
2. Watch the latest AT4W and keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – all of this happened later than I might have liked, but given that my morning was cleaning, and then my afternoon was beanbags, Sims 4, and Mother Nature having a shit-fit in that order. . .
A) Started with said latest AT4W – “Detective Comics #359,” the first appearance of the Barbara Gordon Batgirl! (Yes, there was a previous one – it was back when Bruce had a “Batwoman” girlfriend, and the previous one, Bat-Girl, was her niece and Robin equivalent.) Apparently we got her because the Adam West TV show asked for a female character to add to their line-up to boost ratings. It’s a rather interesting origin, in that Barbara originally made the costume just to show off at a police masquerade, and completely accidentally came across Killer Moth trying to kidnap or otherwise incapacitate Bruce Wayne on the way there and decided to help. While she ended up only taking down a couple of thugs before being thrown into the sticky webbing that Moth had used to stop Bruce’s car, she loved the thrill of it so much that she redid the costume in “quick-change outfit” form, and promptly donned it again when she thought she saw Killer Moth kill Bruce Wayne for not giving him money to stop him being a pest. As it turned out, that was a trap set up by Batman and Robin, and they were a little peeved at her for interfering. Fortunately, she was able to make up for it by following them to Killer Moth’s hideout, saving them from an anti-gravity trap, then sniffing out Killer Moth in his hiding spot (because she’d tussled with him, and he’d ended up with her perfume on him). Bruce was a bit of a dick about the rescue at the time, but told Commissioner Gordon he was fine with another crime-fighter around, so yeah. Not too bad as origins go – and good artwork too.
As for the storyline – Linkara managed to hold off Billy Tor long enough for Linksano (investigating Billy’s homeworld) to figure out the guy’s backstory (cursed/possessed by the furious ghosts of a bunch of previously nonviolent prisoners who were quietly slaughtered during a famine – no, not for that purpose, just to save on food supplies) and figure out how to fix it (they wanted justice, so Linksano GOT HIMSELF ELECTED PRESIDENT IN THAT WORLD for the purpose of publicly apologizing). Billy, his spirits appeased, forfeited, and Linkara won the fight. Linksano got impeached thanks to his pansexual polyamorous self accidentally getting involved with a Russian spy, and there was a lot of fourth-wall-breaking about how the race that was supposed to happen BEFORE this fight wasn’t ready in time (lots of special effects) and come on people he’s explained this a couple of times now. *shakehead*
B) Then it was over to Plumbella for another video on judging Sims – “Judging Sims' relationships despite the fact i'm not in one!” Sorting relationships into “Made For Each Other” (e.g., Sims 1 and Sims 4 Mortimer and Bella Goth; Sims 4 Geoffrey and Nancy Landgraab), “Ok” (Sims 1 Bob and Betty Newbie (more because Jesse thinks they’re kind of an example of the “super-talented woman decides to give it all up for a man” storylines that were in early Sims games), Sims 4 Bob and Eliza Pancakes), and “Lukatar” (a reference to the Jeremy Kyle show, which is their equivalent of Jerry Springer – Sims 2 Bella and Mortimer Goth (Jesse hates Mortimer for moving onto Dina too quickly), Sims 2 Don Lothario and Cassandra Goth). Just some more fun silliness regarding her opinions on Sims stuff! :)
C) Then it was over to the Subs for Call Me Kevin and Grand Theft Auto III: The Definitive Edition (recorded BEFORE Rockstar had to pull the game from stores because apparently these geniuses included music they didn’t license, great). Kevin has very fond memories of the original GTA III, having played it at a (too-)young age and enjoyed running people over with cars because the gun mechanics were too janky. The new version – is still janky, but in new and exciting ways! Mostly because the models make everyone look like a little kid cosplaying as gangsters. Except the plot-important prostitute, who looks like a gremlin. XD Kevin did a few missions, performing hits on people (notably, jacking an ice-cream-trunk for the very first one), destroying other vehicles, and running from the police (admiring one cop’s sick grind along a wall while chasing him), all while having a lot of fun despite getting exploded/shot a few times. He understands why some people think this is a waste of everyone’s time and money, but he personally rather likes getting to replay a game he used to love with a fresh coat of paint and some better gun controls (if not better walking controls – as a commenter noted, everyone walks like they have piles). I mean, we’ll see if and when another video appears, but hey – if he’s happy with baby-faced gangsters, running people over, and watching the AI occasionally kill itself for him, I’m happy. :p
D) And finally we had GrayStillPlays and some more GTA V – specifically more “Squid Game in GTA!” Very specifically, it’s the sequel board to the “Squib Ga” board he played earlier! After an investigation into his previous cheating, Gray WAS invited back to another round of Squib Gas, under the impression that there was no way he could cheat so badly again. Unfortunately, the creepy doll girl with the rocket launcher appeared to wish him luck – and he got the RPG off her. And managed to sneak it in. One exploded toilet on the premises later, and he had himself a nice explodey thing to win his first game – a combination of “honeycomb” and “marbles,” where you had to knock the giant bowling balls into the shape. Gray chose the circle and blew up his teammates and captors before actually, you know, filling up the shape. From there it was to tug-of-war, where Gray was required to compete alone after killing his team. . .but when he went to get in the elevator, he noticed he could go down. To where the organizers were cleaning up the bodies with a couple of different trucks and a bulldozer. Cue Gray killing them, stealing the bulldozer, murdering one of the teams, then taking it and a truck with a hook on the back to play tug-of-war with the truck the other team got up to their platform, against the one girl who could drive the other truck. It was actually closer than anticipated, but Gray managed to send everyone hurtling over the edge, potentially winning Squib Ga. XD We’ll see if a Part 3 ever pops up!
3. Write some more on "Learn To Love Again": Check – Gutknecht’s explained his special situation (being a “wizard,” someone who can do any magic at all), and Lizzie’s expanded on how she knows him and Bonejangles (usual ‘Bonejangles came to perform in Oxford, ended up friends with Lizzie, took them to Elder Gutknecht to check up on Alice’ story – just Gutknecht couldn’t manage a trip Upstairs at the time, so instead they did some magical spying on Alice instead). Victor’s reconfirmed for her that Alice is doing better than she was – up next is making plans for everyone to meet up in a certain location, so Gutknecht can explain all this to her too, and check for new abilities and whatnot.
4. Play Sims 4 and see if I can finish up my house build: Check-ish – I got VERY CLOSE, but I’m not quite done with the upstairs landing, I still need to update the lights, and there’s still some more landscaping stuff and whatnot I want to do outside. It’s just about done, though – I got through the parents’ bedroom, and the kids’ half of the landing! Just figuring out what I want to do with the last few bits and pieces. . .
5. OPTIONAL: Get in a workout: No check – I was already planning on skipping after I’d learned that we had thunderstorms coming in for the time where I usually do work out, but then we had the fucking TORNADO WARNING, and – yeah. I’ll finish off “Happy Families” tomorrow.
Additionally:
-->We actually got in beanbags today – it was just warm enough post-lunch (though the temperature was dropping while we played thanks to increasing wind, ahahahaha), and my parents cleared some of the leaves from our usual area, so we were able to do our usual five rounds. I had a rough go of it, but managed to come back in the end with 3-3-3-W-W; Dad had a good first game and was okay for the rest of them with W-2-2-2-2, and Mom had a strong start but a slow finish with 2-W-W-3-3. Hey, we all won once, and that’s what I like.
Yeah, okay, fairly productive day. And right now I'm juggling three conversations over two tumblrs, so let me just get tomorrow's to-dos sorted and head back out:
1. Free Writing Day -- whatever strikes my fancy
2. Keep up on YouTube Subs and watch Jon's FO4 YOLO episode
3. Play Fallout 4 and get some stuff done in Sanctuary
4. Work on tumblr queues
5. Get in a workout
Seems reasonable -- let's hope the weather doesn't try to screw me over again. Night all!

Date: 2021-11-15 02:44 pm (UTC)Also, is it bad that I knew that Billy Tor was being played by Linkara's father? :p

Date: 2021-11-16 04:20 am (UTC)LOL -- you must have caught on earlier than I did. I saw "L. Lovehog" in the credits and was like "okay, I know that's family -- brother or father?" but it wasn't until the close-ups on Billy that I realized "Oh, Dadkara's helping out again!" XD
