Oh Look At That, A Manic Monday
Apr. 11th, 2022 11:26 pmNot the most relaxing start to my short week, no:
Work – Busy day – starting with a big GL (lot of stuff put on Friday), then having to help my coworker go through some bundles that were brought into our office instead of mailed to our processing center (which is a pain in the ass), then going through a QC file for billings, then exceptions FROM the processing company – the time passed, but it was kind of annoying, and I ended up having a late lunch thanks to those bundles because we had to make sure we had the right amounts. *grumbles* And then the ride home was a bit of a bitch – though at least no worse than normal. I’ve had early releases where I don’t even get to enjoy ANY of my time off because traffic was so bad (thinking of at least one Thanksgiving there). This was just the usual “idiots on the road giving me a twenty-minute commute” stuff – I’ll take that.
Beanbags – Nice enough day for this, though a cold wind started up halfway through the second game. Didn’t let that stop me, though – had a rough first game, but ended up getting really lucky with the beanbags bouncing ONTO the board in the second two! And the third one was a real fight, as me and Dad and then me and Mom kept tying each other near the end. . .Final scores were 3-W-W me, Dad W-2-3, Mom 2-3-2. Not too shabby, honestly! :)
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike tonight, to start the next Oxventure Stream – “The Corn Ultimatum!” After their little adventure with Lady Liliana’s cult, complete with potential romances and Egbert making 37 little copies of himself, the gang moved onto the next town – Little Avery, a place with tons and tons of not-ripe corn waiting for the harvest season. To everyone’s surprise, the townsfolk fled from their presence, leaving only one Lewis – a man with a cap in his hands to worry – and a few of his friends to ask them for clemency. Seems the adventurers had been mistaken for some of one “McClusky’s” bandit gang, there to raid them for their corn. Corazon instantly tried to lean into this, while Dob – who had been eating a green ear – ended up having a potty emergency thanks to a critical one, though an 18 on the roll to see if he made it to the toilet in time meant that nothing was soiled, at least. XD Prudence called for a huddle, and discussion commenced as to whether they should help the townsfolk or try to hustle them. There were a few arguments about doing the right thing versus if they wanted to kill McClusky just to take over his criminal empire, and eventually they all came to the compromise of “we’ll help the townsfolk but we’ll also steal what corn we can.” XD The gang ended up pretending they were corn inspectors and said they’d be willing to help end the scourge of McClusky and his bandits – and Prudence and Corazon made it clear they were open to bribes, so Lewis assured them that they’d get paid, especially if they overlooked the fact that the corn wasn’t EXACTLY up to snuff. . . He also mentioned that there was another adventurer in town already, who was hanging out in the tavern but had declined to help because he was sure the townsfolk couldn’t afford his prices. So, after Dob got the geosocialpolitical climate of the region from Lewis (quiet little town, has been raided by bandits before but usually it’s a more cyclical thing, McClusky specifically threatened to kill the entire town if they didn’t give him a good harvest, so they actually tore down half the place to till more corn), everyone went to the tavern, for drinks and to check out the new adventurer!
Said new adventurer proved to be, in fact, a “tabaxi” – a cat-person of the leopard persuasion. We haven’t gotten his actual name yet, but Lewis and his buddies said it was something like “Champs,” so we’ll call him that for now. He was dressed like a pirate and drinking straight corn whiskey, so the others in the party immediately decided he was cooler than Corazon and headed over to say hello (leaving Corazon to briefly sulk with his new corn dolly of himself, Cornazon). Champs greeted them politely and said that he used to be a pirate, but had to give up the profession because, well, phobia of water – he was genuinely stunned when Corazon admitted to being able to swim. XD So now he’s a traveling adventurer, with the highest prices he can think of, nothing this little town could match! The gang asked him what his price was –
One gold piece.
Prudence immediately called another huddle and suggested hiring this idiot on and just having him go on all their adventures from now on. XD They agreed to the first part and said they could pay Champs his price if he wanted to come with them, which he cheerfully agreed to. They’re currently bringing him up to speed on the situation. It’s already a lot of fun – Egbert’s children are aging rapidly and have already progressed to “moody teenagers,” everyone’s already made their fair share of corn puns, and seeing Corazon and Prudence just be pure Team Evil was very amusing. As was Merilwen objecting to taking over McClusky’s potential empire not because it was wrong, but because she didn’t want to be tied down to the job. XD This group, I swear. . .
2. Continue writing “Learn To Love Again”: Check – starting the final chapter, which I don’t foresee as being very long. Victor and Alice are having a final lounge by the banks of the Isis as they prepare to part ways in the real world again – though, as Alice pointed out, it’s not really “goodbye” as they can see each other in her dreams whenever they want. :) Just gotta get through them actually parting, and Alice having a bit of a Disney moment in response to one of Victor’s smiles. :)
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – easy one-video night in the Subs, so I grabbed some Sims-related stuff too –
A) Started with a video from Simmer Erin where she looked at an old Sims 4 Game Pack that she wasn’t really into at the time, but now feels more fondly toward after the debacle that was Wedding Stories – StrangerVille! A pack that was rather divisive in the community, but which inspired some fun LPs and some good builds. Erin likes that the Gurus seemed genuinely excited about this one, and that they took a risk with a pack that they knew wouldn’t be for everyone. And she credits it with starting the trend in later packs of “letting the Sims Community build the lots in expansions” rather than relying on rather poor Maxis builds (the pack HAD the poor Maxis builds, but the criticisms of said builds seemed to kickstart the whole "let's get Gamechangers to build our lots instead" thing). Yeah, it’s not perfect, but it’s fun, has some good build/buy stuff, invokes the Strangetown nostalgia – oh, and this one was actually FUNCTIONAL on release, which really shouldn’t be a point in its favor but here we are. *shrug* I had some fun playing through the story with Chell and Wheatley – and I am occasionally tempted to do it with Smiler. Even though I’m not sure they’d be the best Hero of StrangerVille, as all those possessed people look so happy! XD
B) Then it was over to Plumbella for “Building a house that came to me in a dream :) don't question it.” Yes, she had a dream about a house (because she tends to have mundane dreams like that), and wanted to recreate it in the game! It turned out to be a rather cute boxy modern build, with a glass sunroof over the patio, combined living/kitchen space with a gallery wall and a sectional sofa, one bathroom, and one bedroom with two windows. Nothing earth-shattering, but it was very nicely done and good for a single Sim who enjoys the small life. :) Also had some patented Jesse rambles, including the reveal that her top pick for a superpower would be flight, and that she wishes needing to pee wasn’t a thing. XD The places her mind takes us sometimes. . .
C) And finally, it was over to the actual Subs for the latest in GrayStillPlays versus GTA V – “I found a water slide that goes to space!” Or, rather, someone e-mailed him that board – along with a “tips” document that was just 180 pages of “hahaha.” XD It was their hope to create Gray’s first “did not finish” board, and they pulled out all the stops – an initial motorcycle section down the twisty slides and through a trio of windmills (Gray actually managed to land the bike ON a windmill and drive onto the checkpoint platform from there); a killer cutouts tube with all sorts of boosts that Gray eventually did via spiraling over the top in his classic pink car; spiraling wall rides separated by LSD tubes, ending with a super jump (because of course it does); then a drive in a super car through a makeshift pool, UP a tube full of waterspouts, then windmills, before finally being convinced to boost himself literally off into space. XD There was a LOT of Gray suffering, but – well, he completed the board, Jimmy. You’ll have to plan better to get good old GRAY to quit. XD
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Pretty much N/A tonight, since I’ve already got some updates for this week sorted. . . I DO want to come up with more ideas for drafts for future updates over my long weekend, though. We’ll see how that goes!
So yeah, bit of a frazzly day at work, but the afternoon hasn't been too bad. Just gotta get through two more work days, and then the oil change on Thursday -- hopefully that'll all go all right, and I can just go straight into enjoying my time off. *nods* Night all!
