crossover_chick: Doc in goggles and holding a big old plug with the words "feeling sparky..." (BTTF: feeling sparky/creative)

Updating a little early tonight to make sure I get [personal profile] gigs_83's birthday gift fic up on, you know, her actual birthday. XD Though the nature of the fic means I have to put a trigger warning for pet death -- the actual death isn't shown on screen, but the after effects are. But yes, here it is:

“Arf!”

Lizzie blinked, shaking her head as she pulled herself out of her book. “What was that?” she asked no one in particular, looking around.

“Arf!”

This time, her ears registered the sound properly – both as a tiny dog bark, and as coming from about ankle height. She looked down to see a little blue-and-white corgi looking back up at her, big bat-like ears perked and stubby tail wagging. “Arf!” it repeated, putting its front paws on her shoe. “Arf!”

“Arf to you too,” Lizzie greeted it, putting her book down and bending over for a better look at the little dog. “Now, what are you doing here, you poor thing? You’ve still got all your fur, so you must be a recent death.” She offered it a hand to sniff. “And you don’t look like you got run over or eaten by something. Which is good, because those are terrible ways to go – but you definitely don’t look old enough for natural causes. You’re barely out of being a puppy.”

The dog nosed her hand, then got its head under her fingers, plainly demanding scritches. Lizzie obliged, smiling. “You’re not being very helpful, you know.”

“Hey, Liz – huh. Haven’t seen a rat that big in ages.”

“Oh stop it, Sam,” Lizzie lightly scolded, not even bothering to look up at her beau. “You must have seen a corgi before. Right?”

“Actually, I don’t think I have,” Bonejangles replied, coming up beside her and crouching down for a better look at the dog. It immediately turned toward him, sniffing his feet with interest. “Don’t even get any ideas about chewing those toes, you. . .anyway, I knew they existed, but – yeah, not sure I ever ran into one in person before now. Funny-lookin’, aren’t they?”

“They’re adorable,” Lizzie defended the pup, watching as it immediately began begging Bonejangles for pets.

“They could take off with those ears,” Bonejangles retorted, scratching behind them for emphasis.

“But in an adorable way.” Lizzie smiled as the corgi nuzzled itself against Bonejangles’s fingers. “I was just trying to determine why this little boy – or girl – is down here with us. Illness, perhaps?”

“Maybe. . .” Bonejangles rubbed its head a bit more, then gave it another look-over, eye rolling from left to right. “Or – ugh. I hate to say it, but you notice how – hang on–” He craned his head for a better look at the dog’s hindquarters. “He’s kinda round?”

“Yes, well, they’re supposed to be.”

“I’ll take your word on that. . .but this don’t look like fat round.” He held up his hand, showing Lizzie the moisture glistening on his bones. “That looks like ‘Bloated Barry’ round.”

Lizzie gasped, eyes wide with horror. “Oh no. . .they didn’t. . .”

“Hate to say it, Liz, but puppies get the sack-and-brick treatment all the time,” Bonejangles said as the corgi nuzzled his leg. “From wankers who can’t be bothered to try and adopt ‘em out, usually.” Bonejangles squinted at the dog. “Mean, I think he looks a little old for that, but, again, ain’t seen a corgi before.”

“I don’t care how old he is – that’s awful, to do that to a dog.” Lizzie bent down and picked the unresisting pup up, settling it on her lap. “You poor, poor thing. . .you must have swum out of the river and been wandering around here ever since. We the first people to give you some affection?”

The dog barked again and licked her chin, tail wagging away. Lizzie gave it another scritch behind the ears, biting her lower lip. “You’re such a happy little pup, too. . .how could anyone just throw you away?”

The dog cocked his head, one ear drooping. “Like I said, Liz – wankers,” Bonejangles said, joining her on the bench. “But I imagine he’ll have a better time of it down here. Lots of people to throw scraps and stuff to him. . .heh, speaking of which, maybe we should take him to meet Scraps. He’d probably appreciate a friend.”

“I bet he would,” Lizzie agreed absently, petting the dog further down its short little body and ignoring the drips that squeezed out of its fur. “Bet a lot of people would appreciate him as a friend.”

“. . .we have a dog now, don’t we?”

Lizzie laughed, a touch wetly. “Yeah, I think we do. I’m sorry, I just – you know I have a thing about creatures who died unfairly, and he already seems so sweet. . .”

“I ain’t complain’,” Bonejangles assured her, grinning. “If the Elder can pick up Victor’s old dog, I don’t see why we can’t take in this fella. What are we callin’ him, then?”

Lizzie picked up the dog, examining it as it panted curiously. “Well – he’s got a little zig-zaggy streak of white on his forehead,” she said, tracing it with a finger. “Why not Lightning?”

The corgi barked, seemingly in approval. “Why not indeed,” Bonejangles nodded, and shook its tiny paw. “Welcome to the family, Lightning.”

---

Yeah, so -- Gigs, you said that I could anything with Bonejangles and Lizzie or anything with Lightning the corgi from Secundus -- so I decided to combine the two. In admittedly something of a sad way, as now we have a dead Lightning, but Lizzie and Bonejangles are dead too, soo. . . At least now we can be assured this variation on Lightning is going to have a happy home in the Land of the Dead now. I just liked the idea of Lizzie and Bonejangles getting a pet too, and having it be a version of Lightning appealed to me. And yes, there was some influence from the old-timers in the saloon accusing Lightning of being some big mad-science rat in Secundus 2 in there. XD It's kind of bittersweet, but I hope ultimately it's cute enough that you like it.

As for the rest of my day, well, we have the to-do list for that --

Work – Busier day than anticipated – got some calls about doing updates and payments on pledges, helped my coworker with some issues, put on a few gifts – it wasn’t the long slog that I was anticipating, that’s for sure! But I also managed to finish going through my spreadsheet, hooray. :) Now I just need to go back through some of the problem areas, but – that can wait. For now, I am done with work.

Beanbags – Another nice day, another late afternoon in the yard – I had an okay start, but a slow finish, while Dad had a great day (won the first game in three throws with a ten to finish!) and Mom was back to her losing ways, sadly. Final scores were me 2-W-3; Dad W-2-W; Mom 3-3-2. We’ll see if Mom can pick it up tomorrow, or if it’ll be just too hot to play.

To-Do List

1. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike, and back with the Oxventure Stream “Mule Be Sorry!” The gang FINALLY worked out a plan to get all of Norman’s stuff out of his cave and on the road – namely, all the bric-a-brac and the weird bone basket thing on the cart, which – now that the mule had been skeletonized – would be pulled by Merilwen as Bearilwen; the sheep and other livestock herded by Prudence and her monster tomes Frisky and the Darkness; and the kettle would be pulled along by Egbert’s newest magical steed, Elkbert, with Egbert riding inside and Corazon greasing up the bottom for extra smoothness (Norman was slightly pissed that they’d dumped his nice tea on the ground first, but Corazon was able to convince him that a nice cuppa in the new place was worth looking forward to. After Dob tried and utterly failed XD). With everything sorted, the group set out, keeping the skeletons around to help with the unpacking on the other end – though they accidentally tipped their hand about how much they actually liked the mule when they asked them not to reverse the skeletonizing of said mule. And then Dob just came out and admitted they didn’t like the mule much. And then Corazon, pissed that he was telling the truth, managed to bicycle-kick him in the “yarbles,” as Johnny put it, again, though Dob claimed they were still numb from last time. XD Anyway, they set out along a mountain path to the new cave, the annoyed skeletons muttering about how they needed to do something nasty to balance the books. . .

And then Corazon, hanging out in the cart and sweeping the landscape with his spyglass to see if he could see Norman’s new cave, spotted a glint of light upon metal from the town of Brunhelm, which looked rather like what you might get if someone was watching them with a spyglass. Concerned, Dob got Prudence to try Messaging the stranger to see if she could suss out who they were (Prudence even throwing on some Thaumaturgy to make herself sound scarier over the link) –

It was the damn town crier. Who’d spotted them working with the “troll” and was sending a mob out to kill them and Norman and reclaim “their” sheep. Dob told Prudence to explain the situation – about how Norman wasn’t a troll and was moving out of the area anyway – and issue an ultimatum about just letting them go or they’d regret it. The crier responded that they were determined to get their sheep and their gold back, so onward came the mob! There was some discussion about what to do, with Egbert at least genuinely feeling bad about them having lied to the townsfolk, and with Dob doing the “moral compass” thing of not wanting to just wreck these people immediately. It was eventually agreed that what the would do was leave the 600 gold they’d gotten from the town on the path (mostly because Norman HAD promised to pay them twice as much) with a note stating that the townsfolk should take it and go in peace, otherwise they would unleash Skelepocalypse Now (Prudence got inspiration for that one XD), with Corazon even drawing an example with the town crier in the middle of a skeleton mushroom cloud. They did so and continued on, and the mob came across the gold and the note –

And the town crier misinterpreted the drawing as Corazon having somehow found out about his mushroom allergy, and declared the Oxventurers to be very rude, and that they wouldn’t stop until they had their sheep back, darn it. Merilwen promptly turned back into elf form and cast Spike Growth behind them to ward off the mob. . .

Only for the crier to start laying a human bridge across the spikes, grievously wounding some of his fellow mob members. Seeing this guy was pretty much trash, Egbert ignored Dob and Corazon talking about going back down and trying diplomacy, unhitched Elkbert from the kettle, then rode Elkbert back down to the spikes and had his steed kick the guy back over the spikes so hard he busted his ribs. Welp! XD Dob came down with a bunch of the skeletons and gave the crier a deal – he heals him and they take their gold and go back home, or he just lets the chaos go on, maybe even bringing the skeleton army into it. The crier, finally understanding he’d been beat, consented to option one, though he said Norman was not welcome at bowls (which everyone was quite angry about). Dob healed him, and the crier told everyone to head on home. . .

Cue the skeletons running in, grabbing torches from as many of the villagers as possible, and running into the town to burn it to the ground. XD The villagers chased them, but that conflagration was not going to be quenched anytime soon. XD An exhausted Dob thanked the skeletons for a horrible job and said they could put themselves away once they were done (though the skeletons expressed an interest in playing bowls later, as the village green hadn’t burned yet) –

And then Norman, seeing that the town was burning down, was like “well, do I even have to move now?” The Oxventurers were pissed, but mollified enough by Norman promising to still pay them to turn everything around, go back to the original cave, and put everything back – they couldn’t QUITE unweave the bone basket, but Norman said not to worry about it, maybe he WAS a little too ruled by his things. And so he went to get their payment. . .

Via smashing up all of his bric-a-brac. Yeah, turns out those porcelain squirrels? All piggybanks. XD It was – a thing. That’s where I left it, which feels like more or less the end of the adventure. . .but there’s still twenty-odd minutes to go in the stream, so I’m not sure what comes next. Chatting about what’s coming up next, I presume! We’ll find out tomorrow. :)

2. Continue writing “As Long As You Love Me”: SUBSTITUTION – We’re starting a holiday weekend, and the hypnokinky shenanigans have been on my mind, so instead I did some editing on the start of one of my personal Valicer “Victor gets hypnotized by Smiler with Alice around for support” snippets. The brain wants what it wants, and considering I’ve just hit a chapter break in “As Long As You Love Me” and could use a bit of time to think about how Chapter 4 starts, this works out for everyone involved. :p

3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: One-third check, but for a good reason – you see, a new video dropped today that I had to watch instead of the two things from yesterday in my Subs –

A) The reveal trailer for the upcoming expansion pack at the end of July, Sims 4: High School Years! A pack all about high school, which seems to promise cramming in all sorts of teen activities, from cheerleading to prom to new sorts of social media – also, apparently, carnivals, possibly a new cafe type, maybe an ice cream truck. . . Trailer was DENSE, yo. Dense and SUSPICIOUS – sorry, Sims Team, but it’s gonna take more than one fairly-decent-looking game pack (which I do plan to buy this weekend) and a fun trailer to convince me you know what you’re doing again after My Wedding Stories. Also I don’t usually play with teens (or families at all), so this appeals to me less than occult refreshes (give me the vampire lore, damn it). But I will allow that a lot of other people probably want it, and hopefully it’ll be decent when it comes out in a month.

B) Of course, Sims 4 trailers require watching Sims 4 trailer reactions! Starting with the boy in my Subs, James Turner, and his half-hour analysis of the whole thing! Yeah, like I said above, trailer was dense. Though admittedly a little of that time was also him reading the official “fact sheet” for the upcoming expansion and whatnot. But yeah, he was basically going through the trailer frame-by-frame, pointing out stuff he thought was cool and trying to figure out how certain things worked (like the high school, which apparently functions like an active career lot – teens can attend class actively and whatnot – but also has a few different looks – is it like those Eco Lifestyle changeable community spaces or what?). He’s eager for windows that teens can actually climb through and lattices they can use to sneak out of their rooms, a bunch of the new build/buy items, the new pier area with carnival stuff – a Ferris Wheel, a haunted house, a mini-ice-cream parlor. . . Granted, he also had a few moments of “This is Sims 4, let’s be realistic here” – like pointing out there’s a non-zero chance that Sims in a classroom will randomly get up and crowd around the teacher, or do push-ups for no reason. And pointing out that, as cool as this trailer looks, My Wedding Stories is still on everyone’s mind. But so far, he is hype, and I’m happy for him. I get the feeling he’s already planning out a lot of new fun teen bedrooms to design. XD And where the hell he’s gonna go with his current Werewolves LP so it’s either finished or pairs nicely with this upcoming pack. . .maybe have Reginald quietly continue the bloodline in the background so his kids are ready for high school as Angus and Nina become pack alphas? I guess we shall see!

4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – no asks or threads or anything on Valice Multiverse, so I slapped some AMA and CB reblogs into the queue. We’ll see if anything pops up there later! And I’m still not sure how Saturday’s gonna go down (Wyrd Sisters Podcast or something else?) on Victor Luvs Alice, so leaving that be for the moment. I’ll have time to finish that up tomorrow!

*shrug* Not bad for a Thursday, I suppose. And now that one of my usual nightly chatting partners has had to cut and run early due to exhaustion, I'm gonna catch up on webcomics and just chill for a while. :D Because I have that option, darn it. Though I do need to make a to-do list for tomorrow now:

1. Keep up on the FO4 Playthrough Progression

2. Catch up with YouTube Subs

3. Play Fallout 4 and investigate the alien crash site before continuing the settlement tour

4. Work on tumblr drafts/Hypnokinky Valicer Stuff

5. Get in a workout

Yes, I am planning on a Fallout Friday, with writing to match. :D Long weekend = more fun gaming time for Vic, and I want to take advantage of that! But for now, chilling. Night all!
