Fairly Satisfying Friday
Jul. 22nd, 2022 11:37 pmI was in a bit of a bad mood at the start, but I think that was just me not wanting to go to work. XD I cheered up a lot over the course of the afternoon, as probably evidenced by my to-do list being quite full --
Work – A pretty quiet Friday to end the week – reasonably simple GL, then most of the rest of the day was just obituaries and duplicates. One call from a guy who hadn't realized his card had expired, but that was about it. Plus some credit card nonsense that I will deal with on MONDAY, thank you. *nods* I’ll take it!
Beanbags – No – while the humidity was down a bit from yesterday, the heat was up, and – yeah. Still just too hot to go outside simply to throw sand bags made from old jeans onto old boards hoping to put one through a hole. And as tomorrow AND Sunday both have heat advisories, I don’t think we’ll be getting any beanbag action until next Monday at the earliest.
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike, this time watching a whole bunch of short Sims videos! First up was the latest from Simmer Erin, talking about why she thinks the High School Years pack was designed the way it was (essentially, she thinks that they went wide instead of deep with features (like active classes not being particularly active, extra focus on social media and thrifting and boba tea) to attract the most possible Simmers to buy it (under the logic that “there’ll be SOMETHING you like in the pack!”), which – you can see where they’re coming from, but it does kind of sacrifice the pack theme, doesn’t it?); then a whole bunch of videos from Petey Plays It covering:
I. Hidden career rewards you get from base game careers, covering stuff like Tech Guru eSport competitors gaining the ability to “Livestream” games and get donations from fans, Oracle Criminals getting the ability to hack “The Mainframe” and get more money from all hacking jobs as long as that "uplink" is active, and Style Influencers in both career branches being able to make over Sims and set trending outfits. Interesting stuff that you might not normally notice in the base game careers!
II. An overview of vampire weaknesses to go with the one on vampire powers I watched a while back, indicating which are the best and which are the worst to get depending on what kind of vampire you’re playing (basically, we’re in complete agreement that “Withered Stomach,” “Sleep of the Undead,” and “Fitful Sleep” are the best weaknesses to take to minimize the impact on your vampire, while you should avoid “Uncontrollable Hissing” and “Undead Aura” unless you’re TRYING to build a pariah vampire. For a difference, he thinks that “Sloppy Drinker” isn’t too bad of a weakness, but as someone who already struggles a bit with keeping Thirst satisfied, I wouldn’t touch it).
III. An overview of all the spellcaster perks and which ones are the best for your points (“Discharge” is basically a must-get to help with the buildup of magical charge, while stuff like “Charge Control,” “Hexproof,” and “Master Caster” are definitely worth working your way up their perk trees for; on the other hand, he handed out a 0/5 to “Incredible Forager,” as it’s an almost-useless perk that just gets you one extra item for anything foraged in the Magic Realm. Just learn Copypasto!).
IV. A quick discussion of how to get sunlight-immune vampires (which I only watched as I was at the very end of my workout and it’s literally just two minutes – your options are “Sunlight Reversal Cocktail” at Vampire Lore 11, which is a drink that will actually make your vampire solar-powered for four hours (that is, you gain energy from being in the sun!); the obvious “Sunlight Resistance” power/perk, leveled up to max; and – well, just dying from sunlight once as the resultant ghost-vampire cannot actually die from it again XD).
So yeah, very informative workout session! :p
2. Continue writing “Londerland Bloodlines: Downtown Queensland”: Check – did this after my gaming, below. Alice has arrived again at Venture Tower, this time having been driven there by Mercurio (hey, she was ALREADY in his car), and has come up to LaCroix's office just in time to catch the very tail end of his meeting with the local primogen. Time to set up what will be one of Alice’s least-favorite quests in this game – “Calling Dr. Grout,” aka Time To Relive Trauma Central!
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check plus – I had time enough to get through not only the subs, but a couple of bonus videos too!
A) First up, Plumbella and “The Sims 4: High School Years but it's a realistic experience,” aka Plumbella uses her early access to the new pack to recreate her secondary school (as she’s British) years! Which were. . .well. She kept having her Simself skip school at least for half a day because she was apparently on half days, and she built an “isolation room” in the school to lock her Simself in because that was the school’s favorite way of punishing her/keeping her away from other kids. And she went to prom briefly but left early after just grabbing some food, apparently. It was – kind of sad, honestly? I want to give younger her a hug? She stressed that this was all because of her undiagnosed autism and that even with this, she feels lucky that she had a loving home and family, but still. Yikes. (And this doesn’t even cover her Simself having to deal with her Dad nearly setting the house on fire at least twice, and her Mom accidentally aging up to elder while trying to age up the grandbaby toddler (Jesse’s sister’s kid). Man – the drama don’t stop in this household!)
B) Then it was time to clean out the Watch Later for a night with the latest OXtra list, “7 Most Obscure Puzzles in Soulsborne Games You Were NEVER Going to Guess!” Because it’s not just the incredibly hard bosses in FROM Software’s library that want to kick your ass. Amusingly, they have made seven games (Demon Souls, all three Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Elden Ring), so the list was able to feature an entry from each. The roughest in my book were “figuring out how to drain the poison from this one boss fight room in Dark Souls 2” (which involves setting fire to a windmill that you might not know you can burn – that being said, there were multiple comments indicating they had no idea the room was supposed to be full of poison because BURN WINDMILLS BURN), “getting a Moon rune from a defeated brain enemy in Bloodborne” (which involves holding a certain emote for a full minute), and “taming the Frenzied Flame in Elden Ring” (which involves a VERY complex questline involving a particular NPC to get the one item to tame the Flame in the one spot where it can be used – but if you’ve got the Frenzied Flame and DON’T do this, well, you’re locked into the worst ending). *whistles* FROM really wants you to suffer in their games at all times, don’t they? And yet we love them. XD
C) Then it was into the Subs for this week’s Fun With Shorts – “Butterflies,” Part 1! The first bit of a terrible nature documentary on butterflies and their life cycle, featuring muddy colors and a terrible synthesizer soundtrack. XD Josh’s riffs helped keep us going through the overlong intro featuring all sorts of other animals, a comparison between butterflies and moths, and the beginning of the look at a Zebra Longwing’s life cycle. At least the Victor who lives in my head is happy?
D) And finally, we had GrayStillPlays and “When you see this man outside your window... run,” aka The Man From The Window, which looks like another indie horror title. I was worried it was a jumpscare game, but no, it is actually a puzzle game in which you, as the very round Mama Rabbit, must find a way to protect your son from The Man From The Window, a horror creature (who looks like a small Gru as per the cover of the in-game book about the fellow) who has chosen your window to tap at tonight! You must follow the instructions in the book to delay or distract him for five minutes to avoid your son being kidnapped as his “new friend.”
But that involves reading and patience, so instead we had the Gray “blunder my way to victory” method! XD This involved such things as sticking Junior in the fridge (which the book EXPLICITLY SAID would be one of the places the Man checked first and is also THE FRIDGE), refusing to lock any of the doors (though points for continually shoving the couch in front of the front door, at least), and not remembering which order the Man checks things in (though admittedly there seemed to be a tiny bit of variety there). He finally cracked and read the entire “running off the page” story to figure out the solution, though who knows how long it took him. XD Ah, Gray versus indie horror – I feel a bit like I’m back watching Helloween here. Only with a Floridian Talkative Loon instead of a British one. XD
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – two ask replies on Valice Multiverse, nothing too complicated. I will take it.
5. Buy and start playing Superliminal: Freaking CHECK. Did that shortly after coming home, once I’d gotten settled in and had my afternoon snack (well, actually, I had the afternoon snack while it was downloading, but semantics. :p) I have started my perception fuckery journey, which so far has consisted of the opening orientation, escaping into the backrooms, and getting through the first “false awakening” section where one Dr. Glen Pierce claims not to know where you are. :p It’s fun so far – yeah, sure, I’ve seen a number of these puzzles already from people playing it on YouTube, but it’s still fun to experience them for myself. Plus I’ve been mentally roleplaying this as Victor going through Somnasculpt to try and help some with his anxiety, and he’s just – baffled by everything that’s been going on so far. XD Good times! (Though possibly slightly-too-mouse sensitive times – I may have to tweak the controls a little.)
So that's all good! :) Nice to feel like I'm right on track for a change. And since I'm doing the social thing and can't really linger, let's get the Saturday to-dos right out of the way:
1. Clean my room and do the monthly laundry
2. Keep up with YouTube Subs and Plumbella, watch a James Turner video if possible
3. Play Sims 4 and get Smiler, Victor, and Alice all living in the same house in time for New Year's Eve
4. Work on tumblr drafts
I will keep myself open to the possibility that I can start catching up on James's stuff, but everything else is coming first. *nods* We'll see what happens! Night all!
