Pretty Chill Saturday
Oct. 8th, 2022 11:55 pmIn that it was rather nippy out (low 60s/high 50s all day) and that it was a day where I spent a good portion of it trying to just take it easy and relax after some of the stresses of the past week. Though I still did get a good chunk of stuff done on the old to-do list:
1. Work on my Blades in the Dark Valicer stuff: Check – got some more done on the character sheets, giving Smiler a noted Friend (their own parents, members of the Advocates cult) and Rival (naturally, it had to be Robert Wickerman, head of the rival cult the Beornen), and Victor a Friend (a version of Bonejangles who is entertainer and ghostbuster) and a source for his “Weird” vice (studying under Elder Gutknecht, here a Reconciled (aka non-feral, completely sane ghost) who used to live in the building they’re using as their lair), plus more notes on everyone’s kit. I don’t know where this is going, if it’s even going anywhere yet, but it is fun to design the characters for this universe!
2. Keep up with YouTube Subs, start clearing out the Watch Later: Three-quarters check, by virtue of Call Me Kevin uploading another long full game LP video – Kevin, honey, I enjoy your content, but please. Did keep up with Gray though, and a few things from the WL –
A) Started with the latest from Plumbella –
I. “The Sims 4, 1 Tile Start (but i made it worse)” – Plumbella takes on a new challenge, the One Tile Start! The idea of this challenge is that you make a Sim, put them in a one-tile box with something they can use to earn money, then set their money to zero so they have to use that thing to make money and expand out the house. The challenge ends when they have a proper house with a bedroom, kitchen/dining, living room, and bathroom – then and only then may you buy them a front door and let them go outside. Plumbella randomized Torch Her from CAS, moved her into (the incredibly rainy) Newcrest, made her a box –
And then was forced to make her a slightly bigger box and give her $100 because her initial attempt at using the Slablet computer revealed it had no obvious way to make money, and she couldn’t cheat-fit an easel inside the one-by-one. Also painting costs money. After that slightly-rough start, though, things progressed pretty well – Torch lost money on her very first painting, but recooped the loss by going smaller for future ones, and was able to expand out her little box and actually buy stuff like a toilet and a fridge pretty quickly! (Though Plumbella bought, and then sold back, the toilet twice because she needed to keep a few simoleons free so Torch could paint.) Lightning striking the lot and giving her a few collectibles to sell once she expanded the house over them helped as well. Plumbella just had her keep painting her little heart out, expanding slowly but surely as she went, and eventually – with a few masterpieces, a lot of fame, and the addition of a cheap computer to help her combat her loneliness (Social being the only need that well and surely tanked during the whole experience, and even that didn’t affect her much thanks to it being generally overwhelmed by her being mindful from painting) – she managed to earn enough to actually have a proper house with a proper set-up. Plumbella made it look nice off-camera and did a fun montage of Torch finally getting to go outside with the help of editor Declan. XD Fun little challenge, I must admit – the commenters suggested using the painting tablet (which a Sim can keep in their inventory) or a camera (which also goes in the inventory and doesn’t require you to have some cash on-hand to start) if you want to keep it a true One Tile Start, so if you’re interested. . .
II. “Using The Sims 4 to recreate a floorplan so bad it should be illegal” – Plumbella takes on a horrible floor plan that was tweeted out to the world and now is being used for Sims 4 challenges! It’s genuinely shocking – the garage is only accessible through a bedroom, a BATHROOM in the center of the place kind of serves as a hallway to a hub of bedrooms, and one of the main entrances is through the LAUNDRY. Also the kitchen is a hallway as well to the living room. (Apparently the ACTUAL house has an archway in the living room to link it to the rest of the home, but it’s definitely not visible on the floor plan!) Plumbella struggled to actually get the floor plan to roughly match the horror that had been tweeted, but once she started actually furnishing it, she – actually kind of liked it? Not the path through the house, that was horrible, but she had a lot of fun furnishing and decorating each individual room and giving it a bit of personality. :) It actually kinda looked nice in the end? Again, path through the house was horrible, but on the other hand, the new owner was Torch Her from the last video, and she’s no stranger to pain – she probably just appreciates having all this room that she didn’t have to fund herself via painting. XD
B) And then it was over to the Subs for GrayStillPlays and “When you hit a brick wall at the speed of light” – aka Gray plays Falling Art Ragdoll Simulator! It’s similar to that game where you were playing a stuntman on various movie sets – the goal is to get your character to fly through a target via a powerful slap of some kind, and you get bonuses for smashing up the scenery and breaking as many bones as possible along the way. This one had a specific “falling down into a pit” theme, with such boards as a woman punting a top-hatted lech off a building, a skier smacking away the abominable snowman with his ski pole, and the infamous Oscar Slap – only this time Will Smith smacked Chris Rock so hard he smashed through the back of the building onto the steps below. Gray put most of his “skull points” into earning more skull points at first, THEN started increasing the power of the slaps and the height of the flight path of his characters. Didn’t stop until he’d completely broken one unlucky person’s entire skeleton – the winner was a girl in a wingsuit flying down a mountainside through a bunch of hot air balloons. As his editor put it, it took a few soul-crushing hours of effort, but he managed it! Gotta love that Gray determination and masochism. :P
3. Play Sims 4 and do Smiler's graduation with a celebratory kegger afterward: Check – busy but productive day at the Valicer farm! Here’s how things went down –
-->Attempted to start the day off right with Smiler doing some more robotics stuff on the bench, making another computer chip – this ended up in poor Smiler getting zapped and developing a fear of death from same. Sheesh! I sent them to go weed the garden and then play some “MySims Go!” after that.
-->Alice, meanwhile, benefited from the moon giving her extra handiness and successfully fixed up some broken wind turbines (developing a Like for Handiness in the process) and recycling the resultant junk piles for more bits and pieces. After that, she transformed back into her usual self and published the “Wonderland Tales” book I had sitting around in her inventory – hey, might as well, right? – and went on a “feral run” (to my amusement, her athletic outfit featured a t-shirt with howling wolves XD).
-->Victor got up from the terrible bed I’m forcing him to use because Alice is going to unlock a decent one the next time she gets a promotion at work to get his fizzy pear juice – he then loaded the machine up with some blackberries and went over to tend and harvest the greenhouse, feed the chickens and clean their coop, and then clear the recyclables and compostables out of the outdoor trash can, because it was attracting roaches. Yuck. :(
-->Smiler felt better but thirsty after finishing their gaming, so I had them hit up Victor for a snack, then go upstairs to chat with Alice and become official best friends with her too. :) Now they’re besties with both Victor and Alice, who are also besties with each other. Yay!
-->This brought us to Smiler’s actual graduation ceremony! Smiler headed over to campus to attend the ceremony with some of their classmates (Lilith Pleasant, Cameron Fletcher, and Aoi – crap, forget her last name), giving them all a confidence boost with their powers. I brought Victor and Alice over too, so a) they could celebrate with Smiler and b) so it would be more entertaining for me than watching some Sims enthuse about their graduation outside of a building before disappearing inside it for a couple of hours. :p Victor and Alice spawned in at the usual Sims spawn point by the Commons instead of by the stadium where the graduation was taking place, though – Victor was able to fly over on his broom, but poor Alice had to take the long way around. XD I will get you super speed as soon as I can, I swear! Anyway, Victor practiced both Untamed (earning “Inferniate,” the “put things on fire” spell – where the hell is Chillio?) and Practical Magic while Alice howled and did some scavenging to get her werewolf experience up, and then the two of them did some flirting and enthusing about each other’s occult types until Smiler and company showed up as official graduates. :D (Though, to my annoyance, since I was paying attention to Victor and Alice, I missed Smiler throwing their cap in the air to celebrate – darn it.)
-->And that meant one thing – party! Specifically, a keg party! I had the trio head home and had Alice continue her painting and Victor tend to his needs while Smiler got their keg from their last keg party back out and invited the Pleasant Twins, Cameron, their new buddy Aoi (they did just graduate together!), and Davion to come party! There was a little problem with “guest spread” early on as Smiler tried to tap the keg (first attempt resulted in a juice gusher, but second attempt was fine), but I was able to wrangle them by temporarily making them all part of Smiler’s group and then directing group actions. (Not that this stopped Aoi from both breaking Victor and Alice’s computer and stealing the leftovers Alice was going to eat. . .) Once I’d gotten them under control, the party went really well – Smiler had some juice (as for some reason keg juice does not count toward their “Withered Stomach” weakness), told some jokes, played guitar for the gang (seriously, there’s a “jam for the group” interaction!), maxed their Dance skill as everyone boogied to the radio I’d dragged outside, did a keg stand with Davion’s help to fulfill the main “empty the keg” goal, played a round of ping-pong with Cameron on their new table (they won), then made good friends with Cameron and successfully got them to donate plasma to end the party. Gold level party, w000! :D And, better yet, during the course of events, Smiler got the “inheritance” phone call (getting another $2,500 for asking “under what conditions,” as per usual) AND got another couple of power points from their vampire XP gains, allowing me to get them the “Supernatural Speed” power. So now I can have them zoom places as well as teleport! Handy!
-->Shortly after the party, a NAP inspector showed up – Alice (who was starting to really feel the fury again – I think another rampage is coming up) greeted them and let them look around the house, and the inspector let them know that they were in compliance with the latest NAP (clean energy production) and that they’d get a discount on their next set of bills to reflect that. Nice. :)
-->Victor, meanwhile, having gotten some energy back, did a ceremony on the séance table to commune with the dead, getting possibly his great-great-grandfather (or maybe just some random ghost – they were rooting for him, though) and making the lights flicker unnervingly. This was good for the old Medium skill, at least!
-->And then I got the big old SHE’S COMING pop-up regarding a certain nasty ghost named Temperance. The game wanted me to be scared, but I just grinned, grabbed the bizarre idol out of Alice’s inventory, and slapped that down right next to Temperance when she spawned, and she didn’t even get a chance to do anything more than laugh evilly before she was chased away by its presence. Har har, Temperance! Alice came up to give Victor a celebratory hip bump. XD
-->After that, Alice went on another feral run (or rather a feral lope-around, as she was kind of stuck on the “werewolf walk” – still improved her Fitness skill, though), while I noticed some of the turbines and one of the water collectors was broken again. Figuring Victor needed the practice, I saved and had him head out to Repairio the lot. . .
-->FOUR REPAIRIOS IN A ROW, NO FIRES! :D Now that’s more like it! That being said, I was so excited about his magic working properly that I forgot he had a curse that massively increased his charge gains and thus got him all the way to Dangerously Overcharged without even thinking about it. O.O Fortunately the minute I noticed, I queued up the “Discharge” interaction, and thus saved the poor guy from overloading. He did pick up a new curse from this, though, the Curse of Infectious Laughter (getting random giggles all over the place) –
-->But then I remembered “Wait, can’t you just buy the curse-cleansing potion with aspiration points?” So yeah, after having him do a bit of Scruberoo (on the puddles left by the broken water collector and himself), I had him buy one and drink it to clear his curses. Better yet, all this magical activity got him over the hump and into Acolyte rank! :D I promptly picked up “Power Shunt” to reduce his charge gains while casting spells, and “Experimenter” to increase his gains from practicing his magic and experimenting on cauldrons. Nice! Now I just gotta get Alice to level up her werewolf stuff a bit. . .
-->But that’s for another night – Victor headed to bed as she came back from her feral run, washing herself off with her leftover Waterfall in a Bottle from her and Victor’s honeymoon to Selvadorada before I made her “mark her territory” and undo all that progress. XD I left it with her sleeping under the moon; Victor snoozing in bed; and Smiler – having just come back from work – practicing some yoga.
Whew! Good day in the household, though. :) Next time I play them, it’ll be SimCity Founding, which I intend for them to spend wandering around Henford-on-Bagley – they’ve yet to visit the Bramblewood, and it’s been a while since they hit Finchwick! Though that’ll probably be next weekend – I think I’m doing some more building on Monday!
4. Work on tumblr drafts: Check, though in a minor sense – while I got myself moving and grooving (and changing my sheets) too late to do my usual dash-and-tags catch-up on Victor Luvs Alice, I did spend some time on my big “other Alton Towers coaster OCs” post while doing my backups (see below), updating Th13teen’s section a bit with links so people who don’t know who Jane Douglas of OXBox is can picture her, and finishing up Gayle “Air/Galactica” Broome’s section. This leaves Robert “Big Bob” Wickerman and Nemesis, both of which are the least developed of the group (Nemesis because most of the time the joke with it is “world’s nastiest Chihuahua,” Wickerman because he’s the Designated Asshole versus my own Smiler thanks to the Wickerman/Smiler rivalry in the park). I’ll have to come up with a bit of lore for them to finish it off!
Additionally:
-->As indicated in Item 4, I ended up spending a chunk of time after lunch doing computer back-ups – I’d meant to do it last weekend, but forgot. Gotta get myself on a more regular schedule to do those. . .but everything is safely backed up on my external hard drive thing, so I may rest a bit easier about potentially losing data.
-->We did play beanbags at five o’clock (though it may be the last time we do so at that time, at least on a weekend – getting steadily darker and colder at that time of day) – and I had a great day, not only winning two games but getting a twelve to start the fourth game! That’s only the second twelve any of us have gotten this year (with Mom having gotten the first one during the summer)! In fact, we each won at least once, which was nice – final scores were me W-2-3-W-2; Dad 3-3-W-2-W; Mom 2-W-2-3-3. Not bad at all. :)
So yeah, Kevin foiled me on the YouTube, but I did decently well on everything else -- I'll take that! And now it's time to set up Sunday to-dos:
1. Keep up with the FO4 Playthrough Progression

3. Play Fallout 4 and get Victor and Piper back to Goodneighbor to report to Hancock on Pickman
