Not The Greatest Saturday
Oct. 29th, 2022 11:39 pmI just -- I thought it was gonna be better, but then I got all caught up in my parents' stress (Mom was planting a fuckton of crocus and iris bulbs she got from a friend AND had a sinus headache all morning, so she was in a mood, especially when it came to making lunch) and that plus some timing stuff -- well, you'll see in the to-do list:
1. Clean my room and wash my blankets: Check – got a proper start this morning by getting up at 9:45 AM, which allowed me to have my breakfast and play some games on my iPad before getting to the cleaning by about 10:45 AM. Between the dusting, Swiffering, vacuuming, and stops occasionally to check on the laundry and try to help Mom with some stuff, it took me until about 1:30 PM to finish the actual cleaning (without a lunch break; because Mom was outside planting iris bulbs all morning, we ended up eating late). Blankets went in a little before noon and came out around 3 PM (FRESH out of the dryer, no less; I got to cuddle in them and absorb the warm :D). So yeah, took a bit longer than I hoped, but at least it’s done!
2. Keep up with YouTube Subs, see about catching up on Plumbella: Five-sixths check – I, hilariously enough, did not have enough time to get to the SHORTEST video I planned to watch, the Fun With Shorts from yesterday. But after eating supper a little early (possibly because I took my shower a little early), I was able to fit in the following –
A) Started after supper with a Plumbella marathon –
I. “Killing my sims using every possible death in The Sims 4 :)” – Plumbella attempts to show us every single death in The Sims 4 up to the current pack of High School Years! I say “attempts” because, well, the video was kind of a clusterfuck of Sims NOT dying. Because it’s a lot harder than you think to murder Sims in this particular game – starvation takes days, emotional deaths are of course very dependent on the Sims being in the right emotional state (Plumbella was never able to get one Sim to be Playful enough to die from hysteria), whether or not a fire will catch an object or a Sim is variable (the Sim she designated to die by fire ended up dying by heat exhaustion instead), and some deaths just take multiple attempts (she was VERY CROSS with her vending machine death lady for not dying for AGES). Plus there were a few deaths where Plumbella was just misinformed – she thought you could actually DIE from being stalked by the Night Wraith when you get that particular Spellcaster curse (you cannot, it just torments your Sim and leaves them exhausted all the time), and she had her Sim climbing the wrong rock wall for the mountain climbing death for a good long while. She did get a few – classic drowning, TWO vampires burning to death in the sun, the good old cowplant, death by magical overload after a duel (though not on the Sim she was actually planning to kill), death by overexertion (by making two elders woohoo until one croaked), and death by rabid rodent disease (and was horrified by the hamster costume ghost afterward), to name a handful – but most of the video was her complaining at her Sims for surviving much better than she ever wanted. Which, to be fair, WAS fairly amusing, so. XD
II. “Johnny Zest deserves the WORLD and I'm giving it to him” – Plumbella updates Johnny Zest for her new base-game save file! She’s decided she likes this Landgraab reject and wanted to give him a better place than he had in the original game, so she moved him out to a different lot and rebuilt his trailer to accommodate him better – AND his new daughter better (she called the kid “Mimi” throughout the video, but it looked like the girl was actually named “Lizzie” in the CAS speed-clothe at the end of the video). It’s a very nice little trailer house, with a little garden with monkeybars for Lizzie, a shared bedroom split with a divider, and a little kitchen/living room where Johnny’s made his own junky stuff but made sure his little girl has the kind of seats she wants. :) I have to admit, it’s all very sweet and I like it a lot. :)
III. “I tried to manually improve objects in The Sims 4” – Plumbella makes some new custom content (in a partnership with Adobe Creative Cloud)! She created three new things for her game – a new more minimalist movie poster for the hypothetical Bob Pancakes movie (created using screenshots of the man himself eating pancakes); a toddler bed with a freezer bunny-themed duvet with lots of sparkles and pink; and a Halloween-themed bed in purple with spiderwebs and a bunch of the supernatural icons in there. :D They all came out really well, and I am quite impressed with her ability to create this stuff. :D
B) And then it was over to the Subs to catch up on GrayStillPlays (mostly) –
I. “Upgrading NOOB dog to GOD dog in Save the Doge” – Gray plays Save The Doge, one of those drawing games where you have to protect something from something else – in this case, a very round “doge” (Shibu Inu dog for those not in the know) from a hive of angry bees! And a variety of environmental hazards the bees can push the doge into, including water and acid. Gray, of course, started out doing ridiculous drawings like Godzilla and ninja stickmen, but then decided he wanted to use as little ink as possible to get three stars on the regular – and THEN he discovered that, if you zipped your mouse “pen” across the screen fast enough, you could draw outside the bounds and tried to win via glitchy oversized mess. Which was fun, because your drawn items can and WILL glitch like crazy through objects – Gray had a lot of them even before this just fly off into space and let his doge get stung by bees. But he persevered, and managed to win with a bunch of random zig-zags that JUUUST protected the doges by trapping the bees. XD Good times!
II. “Upgrading NOOB yarn to RAINBOW yarn in Rope Man Run” – Gray plays Rope Man Run, another one of those “get this thing through the obstacle course for goodies” mobile games – in this case, the thing was a man made of rope (or possibly yarn, you seem to pick up yarn balls as you went); the obstacles were things like saws in the ground, rotating boards, sticks hanging off half a jungle gym, and the occasional crossbow; and the goodies were the aforementioned balls of yarn and purple gems, with a treasure chest at the end that spewed out hammers for you to build a rope city with (including rope wind turbines, which Gray did not approve of). Also occasionally if you got enough yarn-rope, your rope man got to ride a sick motorcycle. :p Gray of course made this premise seem a lot more entertaining with his commentary about how he hoped his rope man’s right arm would be sliced off by the blades and not the left, because he was a lefty; and by oohing and aahing over the various colors available (including a black-and-white one that he felt looked like vanilla-and-chocolate swirl ice cream, and an admittedly quite nice purple nebula one). Simple but effective for entertainment purposes!
3. Play Sims 4 and do SimCity Founding with Valicer: Half-check, I’m going to say – I got into the game, but I only got through the morning before Mom was like “Let’s play beanbags!” and I had to save and quit. And then afterwards there just wasn’t enough time for me to keep playing because I started late. . .this is what I actually got through –
-->After checking through all my mods and suchlike (most of them were fine, two had updated, Spinning STILL hasn’t “officially” cleared his, but I decided to risk it) and emptying caches and such, I finally booted up the game! I checked some mod settings, then started wondering what to do with my only awake Sim, Smiler –
-->Oh, hey, Guidry’s there, using their computer! And Smiler does have a Fear of Death currently – Guidry’s a ghost, why not discuss fears with him as the fear-clearing want suggests? So I queued up the interaction –
-->Cue Victor running in panicking because he heard a creepy voice. XD Welp! Fortunately he calmed down once around Smiler, and Smiler was able to discuss their fears with Guidry and clear the Fear of Death, yay. Victor, meanwhile, wanted to use the bathroom, but there was a slime creature in the one next to his and Alice’s bedroom. However, I noticed that I could apparently Scruberoo it, so I decided to have Victor try that –
-->And then Smiler and Guidry apparently wanting to see the potential fireworks clued me in that Victor was overcharged and MAYBE that wasn’t a good idea. And then he started panicking again when I tried to get him to mop it normally. -.- I had him use the other bathroom and then go hide under the covers for a while so he could calm down before going back to sleep. Poor anxious baby. *pats him*
-->With THAT sorted, Alice (fresh from sleeping under the moonlight) went to “bathe like a beast” in the tub, while I had Smiler mix drinks to improve their mixology skill, then (after a break to communicate with one of the local specters) head off to the barn to finish their computer chip. Alice did some howling and scavenging to get some werewolf experience, then cleaned out the spoiled food in the fridge before making a strawberry cake and putting two pieces in a picnic basket for her and Victor later. :) Smiler spread a bunch of feed for the chickens, then cleaned the coop and ATTEMPTED to clean the roaches around the garbage can – nasty things weren’t having any of it, unfortunately, ew. Ah well. I ended with Victor getting up and everybody tending to the greenhouse – Victor evolving a load of plants while Alice weeded, then Victor going around watering while Smiler chatted with the plasma fruit tree (which STILL hasn’t produced any fruit >( ) and Alice entertained their black hen. Quite a busy morning, and it’s still pretty early in the day – like I said, I never got to the actual holiday plans I had for them. We’ll see if and when I do!
4. Either write more on "The Joker And the Queen" or Valicer Blades in the Dark: No check at all. :( I just – ran out of time completely to do ANY writing (other than one edit to The Technicolor Phase after Gigs pointed out an inconsistency). I am no happier about it than you.
Additionally:
-->As mentioned above in Item 3, we ended up playing beanbags late this afternoon – and I ended up having a pretty decent day with it, actually. Dad as usual did the best, and Mom kept up as well as she could – came SO close to a win in the last game, but then I got a seven at the end, and – yeah. Final scores were me 2-3-W-2-W; Dad W-W-3-W-3; Mom 3-2-2-3-2.
So -- yeah. I just -- I don't know. I guess I wish I'd said "no" to Mom saying we should play beanbags, because then at least I would have finished Sims and had that all sorted. . . Actually, what I REALLY wish is that taking care of everything I want to do in my free time didn't feel like a job. It's like, I have videos piling up in my Watch Later and my Subs, I have fanfic to write AND read AND comment on, I have my tumblr dashboard and tags to keep up on, I have all these different messages from all these different places. . .and it's like I never have enough time to actually DO anything anymore and I DON'T KNOW WHY because this never USED to be such a problem, and I know I'm getting older but --
*deep sigh* Yeah, I'm just -- tail end of my period and I think I'm a little emotional. And I don't think writing it all up in the to-do list helps either, actually, so I'm gonna try an experiment tomorrow and NOT have a formal to-do list. I'm probably still gonna write up notes on my day, but -- maybe having a little less structure will make me feel less like I'm failing at life if I don't get to something. I DO intend to at least play some more Fallout 4 (going around the Diamond City and cleaning up Victor and Piper's inventories before meeting with Nick), try to keep up with YouTube Subs (I don't know if I'll get to Gray's super-long video or not, but the stuff uploaded THAT DAY might be nice), and hopefully get in a workout (back to James Turner for the day, I think), but -- yeah. Let's see how I do without the specter of the to-do list hovering over me. At least tomorrow is the one day I have no outside obligations at all (Monday, of course, is Halloween, meaning I'm handing out candy in the evening; Tuesday Mom and I go vote early). Night all!
