Merry Christmas! (The Presents Update)
Dec. 25th, 2022 11:31 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Doing a bit of an early update today to let you all know what I got today, and to give out a couple of presents of my own! First, my own Christmas haul:
From My Parents:
-->My usual bag of hot chocolate mix from Ghirardelli
-->A pack of Lip Smackers Coca-Cola-sodas-flavored chapsticks
-->A pack of 45 neon-colored hair ties
-->Four pairs of new soft bed socks (two sets of two pairs each)
-->The usual big box of Ferrero Rocher (the kind with regular, dark, and white chocolate)
-->BTTF Monopoly! (Which is a bit more of a family present because Mom wanted a board game we could all play together)
From My Aunt:
-->Three regular Chapsticks (one plain, two strawberry flavored)
-->A pack of 5 bamboo-fabric coiled hair ties
-->A donation made in my name to the World Wildlife Fund to symbolically adopt a vampire bat -- with the symbol being a big old vampire bat plushie! In honor of me enjoying a lot of "Dracula Daily" posts over on tumblr, I have decided to name him "My Good Friend Jonathan Harker." XD (Because that's what everybody called Jonathan at the beginning of the book.)
I'll probably get a picture of the last later. . .in the meantime, though, I still have two gift fics to post! So let's take care of Dreamwidth friends right now:
Gigs: Pets Are Always Important
“And he’s really mine?”
“Yup!” Victor said, grinning as Chester hugged his new corgi puppy to his chest. “All yours. “Though that means feeding and walking him as well as playing with him, don’t forget.”
“I won’t.” Chester gave the puppy some scritches behind the ears, making the stubby little tail wag. “I’m gonna take real good care of you, okay buddy?” he declared, looking the dog in the eyes. “You’re gonna get all the best food, and lots of walks, and I’m gonna teach you how to fetch and sit and stay and–”
He paused suddenly, blinking and squinting at the corgi’s back for no reason Victor could see. “Something wrong?” Victor asked, immediately concerned.
“Uh. . .” Chester tilted his head. “Does he look kinda – funny to you?”
“Funny?” Victor examined the little dog. “Well, I know the ears are rather over-sized, but that’s apparently typical for them. They’re herding dogs – they need to hear well to do their jobs.”
“No, no – though the ears are weird,” Chester said with a little grin. “It’s his fur.”
“What about it?” Victor ran his hand over the corgi’s back, getting a pleased yip. “Feels fine to me. . .”
“It’s not how it feels, it’s how it looks,” Chester explained, holding up the dog and peering at it intently. The corgi panted at him, little legs beating the air. “Like – the bits that aren’t white are – I dunno how to put it? But they’re not gray.”
Understanding hit Victor like a tree to the face. “Oh. . .that’s – that’s tan,” he whispered, smiling bright. “That’s the color the woman told us he was.”
Chester’s eyes went wide. “Color?” he repeated, hastily putting the corgi back in his lap.
“Yes,” Victor nodded, heart swelling at the delight on his son’s face. “That’s your first color.”
“Oh wow!” Chester gave the corgi a big hug. “You hear that, boy? You’re my first color!” The delight faded into confusion. “Even though you’re a dog.”
The corgi yipped again and tried to lick his ear. “It doesn’t matter – I got my first color from my dog,” Victor told him. “And Mummy Alice got her second one from her cat Dinah, back when she was little.” He rested a hand on his son’s shoulder. “Pets can be as important to you as people. Never let anyone tell you different.”
“Oh! Okay!” Chester looked up at him curiously. “What color did you get from Scraps?”
“Brown – Scraps had splotches of it all over him.” Victor reached over and scratched the corgi’s head. “And he was my absolute best friend growing up. Maybe it’ll be the same with you and – well. Still need to give him a name, don’t we?”
“Yeah. . .guess we could call him Tan,” Chester mumbled, running a finger down the corgi’s back. “But that’s not much of a name. . .” He examined the dog for a minute, then snapped his fingers. “I know! We can call him Lightning! Cause he’s got a zigzag on his head, look.”
“That he does,” Victor said, amused. “All right then – Lightning.” He booped the corgi’s nose, getting a happy bark in return. “Welcome to the family. I can’t wait to see how you fit in.”

As you can see, despite you changing your prompt to "Chester of the 'Technicolor Phase' verse getting his first color," I still found a way to fit in Lightning the corgi. XD I mean, the first thing I thought of when you gave me the prompt was "wouldn't it be funny if Chester's first color came from his first pet, just like his Dad and Alice before him?" And well, I do love the little corgi. (Though now I kind of want them to get Forgotten Vows's Bayard too at some point. . .) But yeah, figured this would make for a cute little story from that verse. Hope you enjoy!
Moose: Maybe He’ll Wear One For Their Anniversary
“You know, you don’t really appreciate just how hard figure skating is until you’ve been out on a lake a few times and realized just how tough it can be just to stand up.”
Lorraine glanced over at him with an amused little smile. “Hey, I think you’ve gotten pretty good over the years, personally.”
“Thanks, but – not that good,” George said, pointing at the man on the screen leaping about the ice. Said man did a perfect twirl mid-air before landing seemingly effortlessly on his blades. “Like – how the hell do they even do that? Just – leap and spin and – everything? I lift one leg and I feel like I’m about to fall on my ass any minute.”
“Well, they do a lot more skating than we do,” Lorraine reminded him, watching as the man glided around the rink, skates kicking up a beautiful spray of ice crystals as he took a hard turn toward the center. “I mean, we pretty much only skate in winter – they practice all year round. And I didn’t think I could talk you into spending like all day every day on the lake.”
“Probably not,” George allowed with a faint grin. “I like skating, but not quite that much.” His expression turned thoughtful. “Though, finding an indoor ice rink in the summer to try out might be nice next year. I swear August has just been getting hotter and hotter. . .”
“Oh yeah, tell me about it,” Lorraine agreed, pulling a face. “I’ll have to make a note of that. . .but yeah, I did some research back when I was younger and thinking maybe I could make a go of it as a career – Lorraine Baines, the figure-skating queen – and if you skate professionally, it’s kind of all you do. They pour most of their lives into learning how to skate better, move faster, pull off all those fancy moves. Their training regimens can be brutal.” She pointed at the man, now spinning with one leg extended. “I bet you he knows how to do that camel spin so well because he barely has a life outside of the ice.”
George frowned. “That sounds – really, really not worth it.”
“Yeah, that’s what put me off the idea of going pro. I’d rather stay an enthusiastic amateur with a social life and admire the people who know they can hack it do the really elaborate stuff.” She shot George another smile. “And for what it’s worth? I don’t care if you can’t pull off all those leaps and spins and everything. I think you’re amazing.”
George smiled back. “Thanks, Lorraine.”
“That being said, I also wouldn’t mind you putting on a sparkly leotard once in a while.”
George snorted, covering his face. “I think our children would. Like, very vocally.”
“Well, that’s their problem, not mine.” Lorraine scooted closer to him, fingers tangling with his. “And, you know, they’re all in bed at the moment. What do you say to leaving the professionals to it and indulging in our own ‘training regimen?’”
George smirked and found the remote, hitting the power button and banishing the skater to the blackness. “I’d say I’m ready to build up a few core muscles here.”

Surprise -- I felt like I'd milked them going skating kinda dry, so have George and Lorraine watching some skating instead! XD Seriously, I thought it would be interesting for them to watch some professional skaters and compare their experiences to the pros -- specifically, how George feels like he's lagging behind every time he watches stuff like this. XD I probably had Lorraine exaggerate how brutal the training regimes are for the pros, but I understand they ARE pretty tough, sooo. . .anyway, it's just supposed to be some fun times with your OTP watching some of your favorite activity -- and then going to do one of THEIR favorite activities. :) Hope you like!
All right, and with that, it's time to, you know, actually get dressed and do stuff. XD I will be back later tonight for more updates! Hope you're all having a good holiday (if you celebrate, of course)!

Date: 2023-01-11 06:59 am (UTC)Hee this was fun! And yeah figure skating training is indeed brutal. Lots of falling and lots of practising! This does make me look forward to having my George and Lorraine Sims go skating when the time comes.
LOL George in a sparkly unitard is a bit of a scary thought LOL.
Thanks so much though, this was awesome!

Date: 2023-01-12 03:15 am (UTC)I'm glad you think so! And yeah, I've heard plenty about how difficult it is. *wince* George and Lorraine are happy to stay amateur. And LOL, yeah, that sounds fun -- I need to send the whole Valicer group skating in my game! Maybe this weekend. . .
*snork* It is a weird mental image, isn't it? At least Lorraine likes it. XD
You're welcome! :)
