Surprisingly Early MLK Jr Day Update
Jan. 16th, 2023 11:33 pmYeah, actually managed to wrap up most of my stuff a bit earlier today! That's a nice change from the norm. . .anyway, here's what I accomplished today --
Tumblr: Focused on the Chill Save drafts on Victor Luvs Alice after getting my messages done – completed the text on one-and-a-half of the posts before lunch, then wrapped up the text on the remaining posts after lunch. So that update is all ready to go for Wednesday! I’m looking forward to this one, if only because of the “accidental Valicer date” post. :) (Which reminds me, gotta start working on Valicetines/Valicertines soon. . .)
Sims 4: Well, I did end up playing more of the Chill Valicer Save in preparation for The Big Patch – but it took longer than expected, mostly because it nearly all went tits-up about a half-hour in. Let me tell you about my worryingly glitchy day –
A) Started in the wee morning hours of Winter Monday, with Victor and Alice being woken by their pets. I had Smiler lavish a little love on Kelly, then check the trends on their video recording station and make a confident vlog (since they were feeling very confident indeed in the wake of their successful party!). Victor attempted to get a shower in (he didn’t get a full one because specters) and then headed downstairs to clean the spoiled food out of the fridge – I then directed him to repair the busted dryer and (after getting a few electronic upgrade parts from Smiler’s inventory) had him upgrade the washing machine to have a Presoak cycle and a Speed cycle. Alice, for her part, headed outside, transformed, marked her territory, then went hunting for food to satisfy her needs, before going to say hello to the pets as a werewolf to see how they’d react (there was some tension at first from Kelly, judging by her little picture, but she and Shadow soon came around – Shadow and Alice even made friends again with a little playtime!). Once Smiler’s video was done, I sent them out to the greenhouse and had them release Elmer the Gardener-Bot on the plants (as, you know, it annoyed me I forgot to bring out the party bot during their party, so I was determined not to let THAT one sit in their inventory!) I then had them start on a computer chip (which they kept abandoning to play with the cat) and take care of the chickens –
B) And then – well. I was getting Alice ready to make another painting while Victor got some BlackberryFizz juice out of the fridge – but Victor said he couldn’t do that because Guidry was standing there. I figured I’d have him do something else while I was waiting for Guidry (who, despite being a ghost, was drinking orange juice) –
And then I got a Last Exception error from MC Command Center.
And then Victor started glitching. As in, he was stuck in front of the washing machine, and constantly clipping in and out of a T-pose. I couldn’t get him to do anything, I couldn’t get the others to interact with him, and – crucially – resetting him with MC Command Center didn’t work. He just – would not stop glitching rapidly in and out of T-pose.
C) Welp, THAT’S a reload without saving, right there! D: I went out of the game entirely to check on the Last Exception log from MCCC – something about how the Sim wasn’t properly resetting, which, no shit – then went back into the game and did “save AS” right away to create a sort of new save “branch” off the current Chill Save I had. That way, if something was SERIOUSLY wrong, I still had an older version of the save to fall back on!
D) From there, it was just a matter of redoing everything I’d done above, with a few key differences –
I. Victor, rather than interrupting his shower to go talk to specters, got in a full clean, then went downstairs and gave the specter some honey instead – the specter liked it and gave him wraith wax in return, and I had him make a bunch of sacred candles! So that’ll be useful.
II. Alice and Victor were both spooked by some creepy noises in the house when she came back from her hunt, so I had to have them offer each other some encouragement before Alice could reassure the pets that yes, its still her when she’s in her werewolf form. Still made friends with Shadow again, though! And even shared a howl with her.
III. Guidry got milk instead of orange juice, and I waited until he’d fully cleared out for Victor to get his BlackberryFizz for breakfast – THIS time he got it without issue.
IV. Alice and Smiler ended up splitting chicken-tending duties, as she cleared out the coop while they fed the chickens – also, we now have a grown hen along with a grown rooster from the next generation, so that’s good! Still gonna get SOME eggs, it seems!
E) Okay, back to roughly where we were! I had Smiler start work on a computer chip (which they abandoned to play with Kelly – I gotta take the cat wand away from them) and let them play their guitar and make a Dim and Gusty (because mixology is their thing). Victor went into the greenhouse to collect his GrapeFizz from the juice fizzer and do all the weeding while Elmer watered the plants (and I am annoyed to report two of my trees have randomly reverted to dirt piles again!) And Alice discovered a broken water collector while trying to mop its puddles (on the grass – gotta love Erratic Sims) and fixed it. And then successfully trained Kelly not to drink from puddles before getting a bottle of Fizz for herself –
Right before getting a notice that she had to go to work! I hadn’t realized her work schedule had changed so she worked on Mondays. Well, good opportunity to clear that “Fear of a Dead End Job” she’d picked up! I had her regain her passion, drink her Fizz, and take out all the garbage before heading off to work. Not gonna say no to more cashola!
F) While she was at work, I forced Smiler to keep working on their computer chip, and had Victor put the pets in their winter sweaters (definitely a necessity for poor nakey Kelly) before taking some time to teach Shadow how to sit! And then it was back into the greenhouse, where spraying bugs got him the Outdoorsy Lifestyle! Well, he spends so much time doing the gardening thing, that only makes sense. :P I also noticed Elmer was looking kinda low on the old battery and durability there, so I tried to have Victor turn it off –
Last Exception. Uh-oh. Fortunately, nobody at this point started glitching out, and I’d made a point to save a LOT more often during this run-through, so less panic this time at seeing that. Victor successfully finished spraying for bugs and got sent upstairs for a nap, no issue, so that was good. Smiler, meanwhile, abandoned the computer chip to politely ask fox Harley not to raid the chicken coop (Harley did not, whew), and THEY turned off Elmer and put it back in their inventory. They finished off the computer chip, then spent some time fixing up Elmer for another go-round, while I noted that I’d have to have them make loads more mechanisms to give this thing an upgrade. Well, they’re getting better at making things without being zapped, soo. . .
G) And then I saw someone at the door – Cecilia, one of their neighbors, getting specter sprinkles all over her! Well, Smiler WAS feeling thirsty, so I had them go over, clear out one of the specters by offering it the drink they’d made earlier (the specter was pleased and gave them a Specter Sip drink in return), then chat with her a bit, enthusing about humans until they could get a drink from her wrist. Victor woke up during this, and I directed them to upgrade the bed to get even more energy recovery from it, and Alice came home with about three grand and the need for some taco casserole. XD I was just getting ready to do some recycling and watering and whatnot –
When Smiler got a call on their phone from one Clement Frost. Asking if they wanted to go to the Humor and Hijinks festival.
H) You know what? Yes, yes they did! If only because that’s a social event in a unique location, and thus it’ll help with Smiler’s Party Animal aspiration! I sent Victor, Alice, and Smiler all over there, and had them all join the Jokesters. Smiler went and told jokes on the microphone for a while, with Alice and Victor chatting to each other and watching their performance, then surrendered the microphone to goof around with Clement. They also met Alika, which fulfilled a want of theirs to meet a human – which is good, as they’d just picked up the “Fear of Unfulfilled Dreams.” One chat with Victor later in the evening, and that was gone, yay. Anyway, they picked up Comedy skill 6, while Alice and Victor just had a good time being goofy – and, in Alice’s case, having a wolf nap and getting the zoomies, as she was feeling a little bit of the Fury. The festival ended with the Jokesters winning, meaning they each got a microphone, some fireworks, and $500, nice! I also had Smiler get a few posters, and Alice and Victor take some pictures – Alice of Victor and Smiler, Victor of Alice.
I) And so the day ended with them dragging themselves home when the festival ended. Smiler got sent to recycle everyone’s trash piles before doing some yoga; Alice transformed again, peed, and then went to nap on the porch; and Victor conjured himself some food, Repairioed the busted sink upstairs, had a pee, and dragged himself to bed. XD *whew* Busy day! And, as stated, worryingly glitchy. I wonder what the hell happened to Victor earlier. . . Well, we’re all pretty convinced that a patch is coming up soon, and I’ll have to update all my mods and such after that, so hopefully it’s something that will be resolved by that whole process! (And if not, well, I’m not OPPOSED to making a new Valicer save. . .)
Writing: Started Chapter 4 of “The Joker And The Queen” with a scene I’ve been wanting to write in some form or another for a while – “someone who doesn’t know Victor is their son starts slagging off Nell and William Van Dort, and Victor cheerfully joins in said slagging until his identity is revealed.” In this case, everyone’s in the common room watching some entertainment news show, a segment on the Van Dorts has come up, and the Coaster Gang is complaining about William not really believing in climate change and the excess of the Van Dort mansion, with Victor joining in with how Nell has stuff like a gold-plated toilet just for show. Haven’t gotten to the part where Victor is revealed as their kid, but it’s coming. :) Fun times!
YouTube: Kept up with the Subs, so that’s good!
A) First, we had Call Me Kevin with “Fable 2 has aged like a fine wine!” Yes, having finished Fable at the beginning of last year (with a six-year “speedrun”), Kevin has moved onto the sequel! The sequel that saw him, as a child, happily doing the worst version of every quest to earn gold to buy a magical music box (including wrecking a man’s shop instead of killing the beetle infestation within, giving lost arrest warrants to criminals instead of the constable, and delivering a love letter to the paramour’s disapproving mother instead of the paramour herself); shitting his pants in front of the local castle’s butler because he held a fart too long; watching his sister get murdered in front of him before literally being shot out of a window in a surprisingly-awesome cutscene; growing up into the Hero of Prophecy with a rusty sword, a terrible crossbow, and a terrifying dead-eyed stare; immediately renting out his caravan home for all the cash; braving a tomb only to run away from all the insects inside in a panic; going to meet his mentor in the local village, only to be immediately sidetracked by wooing a housewife via the medium of constant “thumbs up” and “heroic poses,” getting a ring, bringing her back to his caravan and evicting the tenants, marrying her, and immediately having a baby with her; finally doing hero stuff by killing a bandit chief – only to turn around and sell the people the guy had imprisoned into slavery to a DIFFERENT bandit; getting jobs as both a blacksmith and an assassin (the latter of which involved murdering a random housewife by getting her to follow him to the hidden Heroes Guild cave and then slashing her to bits); encountering “Jim Pickens” in the Temple of Light (seriously, the guy looked so like him); attempting to get renown by having a statue made, only to CONSTANTLY fail the minigame to hold a pose and decide killing bandits was easier; and entering a cursed snowglobe to free the people within from – weird colored shadows sucking out all their colors. *squints* Fable 2 is a weird game. XD But a fun one, especially when Kevin is playing it in the weirdest way possible. XD I look forward to seeing him check in again on it next year! XD
B) And second, we had GrayStillPlays and “When you slingshot cars at 1,000,000 mph,” aka Gray plays mobile game Jump Into The Plane! Which is mostly what it says on the tin – you are driving a car, and you need to jump it into a plane (or, in one case, through a bullseye suspended beneath a helicopter). The situations vary from leaping off a makeshift ramp into a plane above a cruise liner, to rocketing through busy city streets after the helicopter, to shooting down a random side road after a plane, to having to outrun the cops on a runaway and chase the plane taking off in front of you, to having to ramp off a DIFFERENT runaway and catch the plane you’re supposed to go inside of at just the right moment. And you earn extra in-game money for every barrel roll and back flip you do when you mess up and miss. Yeah, it’s as ridiculous as it sounds. And more so when you pay $80 for a “car” that’s actually a fighter jet attached to a monster truck chassis. Yes, we know Gray did that because he left the price of the car up on the screen. XD As I said in my comment, I have no idea how he’s explaining THAT one to his wife OR his accountant. XD The things Gray does to amuse us. . .
Workout: Another night on the bike, and another night with GrayStillPlays’s “I found 100 ways to destroy the earth” compilation video about Solar Smash! Today’s highlights included Gray making a custom planet covered in land and people, and breaking the game when he attempted to destroy it in fun ways; Gray turning the earth into a snowball and thus unlocking Cube Earth, which he gleefully tortured in many ways; Gray using his hacks to give Cthulhu the ability to suck the entire planet into his dimension and put like 99 TRILLION people on the planet; and Gray throwing things at Uranus to see if any of them could hurt it (sort of; certain things can cause damage, but Uranus being a gas giant can actually heal itself, so. . .). Good times. :) Should wrap up this one tomorrow!
Other: Did indeed spend most of my time before lunch getting the messages in my DW inbox cleared, yay! The FF.net PM from Ace requires further reading, I’ve discovered, so hoping I can get to that one tomorrow.
Yeah, not too shabby -- would have preferred my Sims game NOT glitching out like that, and maybe a bit more time for writing or whatnot, but this works! And now it is time to head to bed and try to get some decent sleep before heading back to work in the morning, bleeh. >( Hopefully it won't be too bad -- either work-wise or weather-wise (we had the lightest dusting of snow this morning, and apparently it was spitting snow all day). We'll see how it goes! Night all!
