Draining Tuesday
Jan. 17th, 2023 11:34 pmYeah, uh, just look at the work section for the explanation for THAT title --
Work – BLEH – it was a stressful day. Bad commute in; people calling with credit card stuff before I’d even gotten the computer on; constantly being interrupted with credit card stuff or things to look up throughout the day; dealing with a guy who we kept losing because either our phones or his (or both!) were pieces of shit; various computer problems, including not being able to access an important website until late in the afternoon; being unable to do some merges for no particular reason I could see; and then getting out a little late and having to stop for gas on the way home. In another bout of horrible traffic. *sigh* I had a better time coming back from twelve whole days off! Ugh. . .we’ll see how tomorrow goes!
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – another night on the bike, finishing off GrayStillPlays’s “I found 100 ways to destroy the earth” compilation video about Solar Smash! Final segments focused on Gray turning the meteor shower into a rail gun; using a single meteor to carefully “Thanos snap” the Earth; playing around with hacking the various alien weapons; and reducing Saturn down to a sad waffle fry. With rings. XD Some classic Gray ridiculousness here – maybe one day he shall return to the game for a proper episode again!
2. Continue writing “Londerland Bloodlines: Downtown Queensland:” Check – Alice ended up musing about how she doesn’t really feel just twenty years old as she left Confession, with her and Wonderland concluding it probably has a lot to do with how she kind of skipped over puberty thanks to going catatonic after the fire and had to do a lot of growing up really fast when she got dragged back to Wonderland the first time. As it stands, though, she can’t really DO anything about that, so instead she’s getting back on the plaguebearer case – left it with her on the hunt to find some homeless people to question. I figure her meeting Tin Can Bill and then coming back to report the night’s activities to Victor will wrap up this chapter, then the next one can be all about taking down the two remaining Ninth Circle bosses. *nods* And then Grout’s, which should be just in time for in-universe Halloween. . .
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – two in the Subs, and two out of the Watch Later/Recommended pile, w00 –
A) Started with some OXBox fun –
I. “7 Unwanted Achievements Designed Solely to Mess With You” – a list of achievements in games that are – well, see the title. XD Ranging from an achievement about spending 15 hours in an alien strip club foisted upon you mid-boss-fight in High On Life as part of its awful meta humor, to being judged for playing too much single-player-mode You Don’t Know Jack on Fridays and Saturdays, to the frankly hilarious “NOPE” achievement for starting and then basically immediately quitting Amnesia: The Dark Descent as part of the Amnesia Collection, these achievements are taking no prisoners and don’t care who knows it. XD
II. “7 Worst Power Ups That Screwed You Over: The Return” – a list of “power-ups” that really aren’t worth the effort you put into getting them. Want Link in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to pick up some fancy armor, to the point of doing a whole sidequest to drop the price? Turns out it constantly drains your Rupees to power itself, blocks damage at a cost of twelve of the suckers, and if you run out of money, it becomes a super-heavy suit of armor that does nothing but impair your movement. Find a Cloak of Darkness in Wizards and Warriors and fancy some invisibility? Well, now your character is invisible to you, the player – have fun trying to platform with it on! Do that ridiculous feather-gathering quest in Assassin’s Creed 2 to get the special Auditore Cape for Ezio? Well, have fun fighting every enemy in a twenty-foot radius as they all apparently think it’s hideous. Basically, when it comes to power-ups, collector beware!
B) Then it was over to the Subs for the latest from Josh Way – “SKETCHY: Link from Breath of the Wild!” Exactly what it says on the tin, Josh drawing a BotW Link while talking about his own experience with the game (basically, he loved the gameplay but found it confusing and impenetrable lore-wise until he came back to older Zelda titles and got a better idea of what a classic LoZ game is like). He also mentioned if people wanted longer videos of the whole process – I cast my vote for the bite-sized content, as that’s the easiest for ME to keep up with. As I’m sure you’re all aware. :P
C) And finally we had GrayStillPlays and “I made free climbing 99999x more dangerous,” aka Gray plays Stretch Legs: Jump King! A game all about leaping upward between two vertical platforms, smashing the stucco and dodging the dangers along the way (spikes, weird plates of iron, moving platforms, etc) via the medium of using the splits to fire yourself off like a slingshot. Occasionally you had to slide along metal bars or do actual jumps from platforms to gather gems. Came with loads of weird skins, ranging from a couple of normal yoga-loving ladies, to someone still eating a cheeseburger, to an anime waifu, to a basketball star. Oh, and it was built so jankily that Gray fell off once with the waifu onto a much earlier part of the level and immediately became determined to fall forever by launching himself off the correct spot. Which he achieved at the end of the video. XD Ah, gotta love Gray versus the awful mobile games!
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – got the Chill Save update for Wednesday and a relevant OT3 prompt (about pets and the adopting thereof) for Thursday in the Victor Luvs Alice queue, and an ask reply in the Valice Multiverse one. Nothing too strenuous!
Whew -- so yeah, rather tired tonight. Time to head out and get some sleep and hope Wednesday is a little better. Night all.
