Happy Birthday Mom and Lewis Carroll!
Jan. 27th, 2023 11:51 pmIt does amuse me that my mother and the author of the books that inspired two of my favorite video games share a birthday. AND that I ended up posting my very first "Valice" fic on this date too back in 2009 -- Suffocating, for the curious. A work that has not EXACTLY stood the test of time, if only because it was written before the release of Alice: Madness Returns and Alice suddenly getting a whole bunch of pretty dresses. :p But I still rather like it. :)
Anyway -- it's been a day of some highs and some lows when it comes to productivity, let me tell you:
Tumblr: I did indeed get in a proper dash-and-tags catch-up on Victor Luvs Alice before lunch, w000. Mostly because my parents were out of the house (Mom taking a birthday trip over to an antiques place) and thus couldn’t interrupt me. XD Though I did get up to check on the laundry and such. Put a few things in the drafts for later too, which is nice. :) And I finished up the Valicer ship meme I was working on, doing a bit before lunch and a bit after lunch! Yay! :D So that’s ready to go for next week.
And then, this evening, I popped in on Valice Multiverse – one ask reply for the queue! Nice and simple, at least. :)
Sims 4: Updated my mods last night (to my relief, most of them were compatible already with the new patch, and the two that weren’t were two I already had to update anyway), so yes, was able to dive back into the Valicer save – as it is now PROPERLY called because the new version of Wonderful Whims I’m on saves its info a little differently from the old one, so I did the old “save as” again to differentiate it from the older saves. :p But yes, had a relatively low-key day in the old Valicer household:
A) After confirming that Victor, Alice, and Smiler’s attractiveness settings had been saved, I spotted Shadow going to play in and drink the puddles in the blue bathroom upstairs, so sent Alice, still in werewolf form, to tell her to knock it off. Didn’t train out drinking from puddles, but she did learn not to play in them! I had Alice give her a treat for her good work. :) Alice then went off to do some Zoomies to take care of her growing Fury while Smiler researched the latest SimsTube trends – beauty product reviews were in, so they did just that! As usual, watched by the dog. XD Who started barking partway through and got lectured on being quiet – this trained her out of barking at Sims, yay! Getting all the good pet training in today. :) I also rearranged the pictures in Smiler’s room a bit – putting up their two newest posters and moving all their pictures of themselves, Victor, and Alice up further on the wall so they could actually SEE them over the top of the media production station. :p
B) Victor woke up around then, and got put on chores duty, the poor guy – I had him magic away all the puddles in the bathroom; head downstairs and mop a mysterious symbol; go out and feed the chickens and clean their coop; empty the trash all over the house; compost some random crap on the ground; sort out recycleables in the trash bin; and finally head into his greenhouse to tend the plants! I was very pleased to see all his oversized crops looking very healthy and very big – the watermelon proved to be almost 50 kg! :D I had him water everything, spray for a few bugs, and generally keep everything growing well. :) He’s actually gotten the spinach up to magnificent quality, go him! :D
C) Alice came home while Victor was on chores – after having her transform back and catch a nap on one of the front-porch couches, I had her grab some breakfast scramble while Smiler cleaned all the spoiled food out of the fridge and had a plasma pack themselves. She threw a little food to Kelly as a treat, then continued spoiling the cat a little with hugs and pets while Smiler took a vacation day and headed into the barn to make some mechanisms. Kelly went upstairs to enjoy her cat furniture (clipping into the wall a bit as she did – I think I need to move that thing out slightly XD), while Victor took a break from his gardening to grab some food. Alice joined him for a chat, and things were nice and cute for a bit – unfortunately, the conversation turned bad when Alice tried asking for juice-fizzing tips and instead ended up bored. I toyed with having her start a new freelance artist career, but decided I might as well try to use up all her vacation days in her current career first (as I’m trying to do with Smiler) – use ‘em or lose ‘em, am I right? So instead I had her do the laundry. :P Unfortunately BEFORE I put a clothing pile that was sitting in Victor’s inventory in the hamper – that thing promptly started stinking up the whole house! And because there was no way to add it to the load afterward. . .yeah, that proved to be an issue for a while!
D) Anyway, Alice got sent out to play with the dog to relieve her boredom, while Victor used his deodorizing cream to fix a few hygiene issues and headed back into his greenhouse! Where I ran into some weirdness – as the damn plasma fruit tree still wasn’t fruiting, I was going to have him uproot it and try again with the plasma fruit in Smiler’s inventory – however, before doing that, I realized “actually, wait – if you graft two plants together, the plant that got grafted has to regrow. Maybe if I took a cutting off the Tree of Emotions and tried grafting it to the plasma fruit tree, that’ll help?” So I had him take a cutting from the Tree of Emotions and went to graft it onto the plasma fruit tree –
Got a Last Exception from MC Command Center. And the graft didn’t take. I was – more than a little puzzled by that, let me tell you! I left it alone for a bit for him to take a selfie or three with his giant pumpkin, pick all his giant crops, and go greet the NAP Inspector at the front door (who did some scanning, then proclaimed them in compliance with all NAPs, good), then tried again to graft – Victor glitched out without an LE this time, and the graft still didn’t take. (Though both attempts DID count toward his aspiration, so I guess that’s good.) So I went back to my original plan to uproot the tree and plant Smiler’s spare plasma fruit instead. Victor did so, and fertilized it with a pet poop –
And then SHOOP! Tree instantly grew. XD I’m pretty sure this is my Little Miss Sam “Gardening Workaround Fix” mod, which examines plants every five Sim minutes and makes them grow if they need to grow (aka if they’re trying to revert to a dirt pile for no reason), being a little overenthusiastic. XD On the plus side, hopefully we’ll find out sooner rather than later if this damn plasma tree will fruit this time!
E) While all that was going on, Smiler finished their mechanisms (getting up to Robotics skill level 8 in the process – now, if they want, they can build a Servo!) and upgraded their Gardening Robot Elmer with them – now Elmer will recharge faster when done with its duties! I had them do some tinkering on the workbench to keep them busy before sending them upstairs for a shower. Alice, meanwhile, managed to pull a muscle during playtime with Shadow (this after fatiguing herself with her Zoomies), so I sent her upstairs to relax with a nice bubble bath. Once that was done, she was feeling VERY playful, so I decided to have her write a playful book to burn it off. “Palindrome Puns And Other Nonsense” was the name of it, and while she kept getting distracted by Victor’s pet dragon dragonfly on top of the desk, it did turn out bestseller quality. :D Looks like she has a future as an author! I also took a moment to get all the pictures she and Victor took from the Humor and Hijinks festival out and on the wall to choose the best to hang and frame. :)
F) And it was around this time that EVERYTHING STARTED BREAKING. *facepalm* I’d sent Victor in to pee after upgrading the Juice Fizzer (so it cleans itself after every fizzing) and telling Kelly not to eat chicken feed (she’s starting to get the picture), and noticed that the washing machine was kaput – and for some reason, Victor couldn’t Repairio it. (Possibly because it was stacked under the dryer.) Well, he needed to up his Handiness skill anyway, so once he was done with the toilet, I had him take out the dry clothes, move the next load to the dryer, then start repairing the plumbing –
Aaaand then saw that the toilet was broke. And then swung back around to Smiler to see like at least HALF of the wind turbines were broken, along with one water collector. *facepalm* So I had Victor fix the washing machine manually and repair the bathroom and clean up most of the puddles magically (I had him mop the last one to avoid getting too much charge), while Smiler fixed up the wind turbines and water collector. Got Smiler to Handiness 6, at least! Still, sheesh.
G) Victor wanted to talk to Smiler once all that was sorted, so ran out to see them in the rain – I directed them back inside so they could be comfortable, and had Victor offer sustenance to them. Smiler accepted, and transformed into their dark form –
JUST in time for Guidry to spawn in between them. XD Fortunately he was content to stay on the sidelines and watch the feeding. XD I sent Smiler to go mod Sims Forever on their laptop while Victor got the last of the laundry sorted and headed upstairs to bed, and Guidry went to chat with Alice (who learned he likes the color pink). Guidry then went upstairs to bother Smiler, constantly stopping them from modding while they cheered his very presence. *grumbles* That’s a little irritating, Sims team!
H) And so the day ended with Smiler FINALLY finishing their modding and getting some more video gaming skill playing the updated game as Alice finished another painting, then transformed into her beastly form and went out for a hunt before taking another snooze on the front porch (briefly cuddled by the dog). Her Fury is looking disturbingly high, though – I suspect that unless I get her to have Zoomies or meditate really soon, we’re gonna have a rampage and no mistake! Hopefully I can keep it from getting too bad. . .and maybe get some free werewolf XP out of the deal. :p
But yeah – relatively low-key day for the trio, all things considered! Though I don’t expect that trend to hold with Winterfest coming up tomorrow in-game. . .we’ll see how that goes the next time I play! :) (Oh, and I just looked up the LE – looks like the problem might have been trying to splice the trees together when the one of them doesn’t really have a splicing recipe – I suspect the Tree of Emotions, since I’ve successfully spliced Plasma Fruit onto other trees before. I’ll have to get rid of that shoot and stick to grafting other plants!)
Writing: Got another page or so on “The Joker And The Queen,” with Victor finally getting up to dance, telling Rita and Thirteen about his dancing instructor, and eventually cracking a smile at Smiler’s antics. :) I’ve ended the scene with Ava Max’s “Sweet But Psycho” coming on the radio, as that feels like a good way to segue into Alice, Victoria, and Emily’s adventures, whether just in the next scene or the next chapter. We’ll decide later!
YouTube: Oooh boy – okay, what happened here was a combination of a) me getting to Sims 4 just a little late, meaning I had less time in the afternoon after playing it (which I dedicated to my writing, above, after doing the playsession summary) and b) Mom picking up a new board game, “The 80s Game” during her travels and us playing it as part of her birthday tonight – THREE HOURS of a sort of mix between Trivial Pursuit and Sorry, where you have to make it to the center of the board through the various “rings” representing each year of the 80s, answering trivia questions along the way. We quickly found out we were pretty shit at anything relating to sports or events, though even music, movies, and TV had some pretty obscure shit in it. Though I surprised my parents by knowing the name of the director of Blade Runner at one point (Ridley Scott, for those curious). Dad eventually won, but MAN. If you don’t know your 80s PERFECTLY, this game takes a WHILE.
Anyway, yeah, that did NOT leave me with pretty much ANY time for YouTube – but I was determined to get SOMETHING cleared, so I watched the shortest video of those in my Subs and Watch Later, Josh Way’s “SKETCHY: Luigi Mario!” Him translating the famous Luigi, brother of Mario, into his style, and then doing an action pose of the guy in his Luigi’s Mansion mode, running from a Boo. Apparently the second drawing gave Josh a LOT of trouble – he struggled with the pose, especially Luigi’s legs and feet, for AGES – but he’s very satisfied with the final product and felt that it was all worth it to learn a little more about himself and what works for him in cartooning. *nods* Good for you, Josh! Even if you can’t get past one of the boss fights in Luigi’s Mansion 3. XD
Workout: Another night on the bike to end this week, with a pair of Petey Plays It videos:
A) “All Fame Perks Explained And Rated | The Sims 4 Guide” – as it says on the tin, an explanation of and personal rating for all the fame perks you can get with Sim-lebrities in Get Famous! Celebu-serum and Fan Mail are a lot of fun and worth getting, while stuff like most of the reputation-based perks (positive and negative) are less good. Does make me wonder if I shouldn’t turn fame back on for Smiler in the Valicer save, since they ARE doing SimsTube stuff and a few of these perks seem to fit them. . .
B) “Every Aspiration Reward Trait [Base Game] Explained And Rated | The Sims 4 Guide” – again, as it says on the tin, an explanation of and personal rating for all the reward traits you get from the base-game aspirations (the originals plus the two added with the initial “Neighborhood Stories” updates). Again, some are better than others – being able to write your own skill books as a Renaissance Sim is great, having mind-controlling music as a Musical Genius is okay, and being fireproof as a Freelance Botanist is very meh (and also doesn’t fit with the aspiration much). I admit, I don’t pay that much attention to aspiration reward traits – I just like completing the aspirations – but it was an interesting look at which ones might be worth pursuing and which ones not so much!
So -- yeah. Did pretty well on everything EXCEPT YouTube. I suppose I should just be grateful I got all my writing in and got that ship meme done without issue! Plus the Simming, gotta love the Simming. :p
Anyway, I'm doing the social thing and looking at polyamory-themed tumblr blogs (I am very much in my Valicer feels), so I'm gonna head off. Tomorrow is a cleaning Saturday, hmph -- but gotta be done! Also hoping to get some more on "Londerland Bloodlines," catch up on the old YouTubes a bit, and see about more Simming -- though I may do more building instead of regular playing. Or maybe visit that Valicer trio where I cured Smiler and do more outfits for them just for shits and giggles. XD We'll see what happens! Night all!
