Getting the 10:04 timestamp because I wrote you a BTTF fic for your birthday~ XD And here you are:

“How the hell did I get to be forty?”

“Language, George,” Lorraine said reflexively (never mind that their children were all currently in the backyard, running off the sugar rush from the cake). Then she tilted her head. “And – uh – by getting older? Not sure what you want me to say here.”

“I don’t know what I want said,” George replied, leaning on one elbow and looking at the remains of the cake, still topped with the big 4-0 candles they’d found. “It’s just – weird to think that I’m this old.”

“Like a big April Fool’s joke?” Lorraine asked, unable to help her grin.

“Yeah, yeah. . .but honestly, it does, kind of,” George admitted, shaking his head. “Like, surprise! You’re probably past the halfway point of your life now!”

“Oh, George, don’t talk like that,” Lorraine scolded, leaning her head against his shoulder. “I’m sure you’ve got plenty of years left in you. Turning forty isn’t the end of the world.”

George glanced at her sideways. “Aren’t you the one who said she was thirty-five for three years straight?”

“Shush.” Lorraine snuggled into him. “You’re not some ancient decrepit mummy, you know. We’re still tennis doubles champs down at the club.”

“Only because we’re playing against our fellow old farts,” George retorted, smiling. “And it’s not that I feel old. In fact, I think that’s the problem – I don’t feel old. I feel – okay, maybe not in my twenties, I’m too tired for that. But maybe in my early thirties? Not like someone who’s a father of three kids in double digits.”

“Marty’s not ten yet,” Lorraine reminded him. “You have until June.”

“Great, yay, two months,” George said sarcastically, before sighing. “But yeah – I look at my life, and I’m like – how did this all happen? When did this all happen? It doesn’t feel like long enough! I remember the day we met like it was yesterday!”

“I do too,” Lorraine said, giggling. “It’s rather hard to forget a guy coming up to you and proclaiming he’s your ‘density.’”

“I was nervous and couldn’t read my own handwriting!”

Lorraine snorted. “Trust me, I noticed.” She patted his back. “But I get it. We have gone through a lot together, haven’t we? We’re coming up on the thirtieth anniversary of that meeting. And of our first kiss.”

“We are? Oh, wow, we are,” George said, blinking. “I mean, I know we’ve still got seven years to go, but – wow.”

“Wow indeed,” Lorraine agreed. “But I look at it this way – time flies when you’re having fun, right? So if neither of us can believe we’re forty, because where did the time go. . .” She waggled her eyebrows at him. “We must have been having a lot of fun, right?”

That got a laugh. “I’ll give you that one,” he said, knocking his head lightly against hers. “Even if I can’t believe it’s been that long – the twenty-three years since I kissed you at that dance have been the best of my life.”

“Same here, George,” Lorraine said, turning his head around and leaning in for one of those kisses that still gave her the tingles. “Same here.”

I admit, you gave me the prompt "a 40th birthday party" and George wondering how the hell he got to be forty immediately popped right into my head. XD Perhaps not a lot of the actual party made it into this fic, but I tried to hint at its existence here and there, at least! But I really liked the idea of George being a little O.o about the idea of being forty, and Lorraine doing her best to comfort him and remind him that, even if they are getting older, they're still having lots of fun. :p I hope you like!

*blows party horn* And now, for the rest of my day:

Work – Traffic was a little better, so that was a plus – though I thought for sure it was going to be worse, because going up the main drag this morning was an exercise in frustration. And then I hit the highway and it was like nothing. O.o But yeah, somewhat better commute today, and another fairly quiet day – I am out of roster maintenance tasks, but there’s always bugging the credit card company to actually do something, I suppose! I’ll keep myself busy until the real work starts up again.

To-Do List

1. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike, back to the GrayStillPlays compilation video “100 ways to ruin human lives!” Finished off Life Fix (which saw Gray using telekinetic hammers to nearly take down our protagonist’s living room, getting her to call her ex repeatedly, clear bees from a tree by hitting it with a baseball bat, and win a gardening contest by finding out her ex was smooching one of the judges), and I’m a good chunk of the way into Hyper PA (though, given the PA already had her devil horns, this was clearly the SECOND episode he did on the game – featured the PA rudely dismissing everyone her boss told her to hire, sending her boss to one-star restaurant that made his wife vomit, pranking him by doing the old “bucket over the doorway” trick before getting him to JAM A FORK INTO AN ELECTRICAL SOCKET, catching him stealing money and getting him fired, and dating the new boss to get one level of Angel PA – though given I just ended it on Gray finding said new boss smooching someone else, that ain’t gonna last. . .). We’ll be finishing this little trip down Horrible Game Memory Lane tomorrow!

2. Continue writing “Start At The Beginning. . .Sort Of”: Check – Smiler has talked Emily down from her little fit about realizing Victor’s in a brothel by letting her know that they and Alice brought him there, and it was solely to feed him. Which led to Emily apologizing for forgetting Victor needed to eat, and Victor apologizing for lying to her to get away from her. And now that he’s decided to tell the truth, he’s going all in – left off with him finally admitting to her that he’s already betrothed. This will be a fun conversation, especially since he still has to admit he left a lit candle on his future mother-in-law’s dress in front of Alice. Uh-oh.

3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – just one video tonight from GrayStillPlays: “Crossing GTA 5 in a straight line but wanted level increases!” Gray once again has to cross the entire GTA map in a straight line (in fact, I’m pretty sure he had to go in the opposite direction of the previous “crossing GTA in a straight line” video), only THIS time, instead of random chaos every so often, we had very SPECIFIC chaos. Specifically, it was Gray versus the police chaos! The rules were such – Gray had to stay within the borders of the (very American this time) pylons or get set on fire, as before, but as he progressed, he would reach checkpoints. Each of which would raise his wanted level by one star, give him a power-up, and give the police chasing him five power-ups, which spawned in via chaos-mod-related shenanigans to make Gray’s life harder. :p The power-ups Gray got started with flaming bullets and proceeded through “give all weapons” (so Gray had more firepower), giving him access to the cheat code HESOYAM (which completely refilled everything, including his health, armor, and bullets – it just had a pretty lengthy cooldown), giving him 2X running speed (more speed to get away from people always good), and finally giving him the Spider-Man super-jump (to leap tall obstacles in a single bound!).

The power-ups the POLICE got started with stuff like siccing Chop the dog and Franklin and Lamar in their roles as repossession agents on him, and progressed through sniping Gray with tasers, rigging cars with explosives (so if Gray hit anything he’d explode), rigging peds with explosives, deploying alien troops with the Up-And-Atomizer, summoning Merryweather units, getting access to Agent 007, summoning insta-kill special troops, summoning flocks of TANKS, and finally siccing Florida hurricanes on him. XD Among many, MANY other things. Gray had a fucking HELL of a time getting across the map – ESPECIALLY in the city, where the numerous twists and turns of the road made it actually better for him to stay on foot then risk getting a car, despite the fact that mean he moved slower and got shot at more. Sometimes things worked out for him all right – being forced to climb a giant construction tower he couldn’t get around without going out of bounds led to him being able to jump off the top (well, get pushed off the top by a sudden alien spawn) and parachute his way across a pretty decent chunk of the map), but most of the time Gray was either shooting at everyone around him in an effort not to be shot himself, parkouring over fences and hedges and houses with the help of the Up-And-Atomizer, complaining loudly about how he’d like everyone to leave him alone please, and suffering all sorts of painful abuse from the various police units. Especially from Chop the dog, because Gray refused to hurt the dog if he could help it (if the dog spawned in a bad spot or got rolled on by someone on fire from his flaming bullets, that was the dog’s problem). XD I mean, the bounty hunters and 007 and all that were also bad, but at least Gray didn’t feel any guilt about killing THEM. XD It took him quite a while and quite a few deaths (though maybe not as long as the original run – at least, the video he showed us wasn’t as long), but he DID eventually make it across the map, into the ocean, past the military submarine, and into the win circle. Just in time to enjoy another hurricane. XD Ah, the torture was strong today. . .

4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – just Victor Luvs Alice to worry about tonight, with me swapping the queue speed back to one post per day and setting up my Song Saturday – “Parachute” by Ingrid Michaelson! Specifically, a Leverage fan video for the Parker/Hardison/Eliot OT3 that I saw on a polyshipping blog, really liked, and immediately applied to my own Valicer OT3. XD So that’s all set for the rest of the week!

*nods* Good stuff! And now it's time for me to hit the sheets -- just two days left in this work week! And then a three day weekend! A three day, rather stormy weekend. . .I mean, we'll see what happens. *nods* Night all!

A Bit Late
