Grumbly Thursday
Jan. 25th, 2024 11:50 pmMostly because I didn't have a great day at work, as you will see below. At least this evening I was able to avoid distraction and get some shit done --
Work – Ugh – had a MASSIVE amount of credit card nonsense to deal with this morning (lot of stuff in the wrong place), got to lunch late, then had an absolute drag of an afternoon trying to keep myself busy with anything I could find and tune out my coworkers’ bullshit nearby (they’re both back meaning I have to hear shitty reality TV talk, among other things). Not a great day. At least tomorrow’s Friday. . .
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – another night on the bike, this time with some Baldur’s Gate III mod videos – specifically, all of “Baldur's Gate 3: ARTIFICER Class Mod Deep Dive & Guide | Full Features & Installation” by LukeCanWin, and part of “Baldur's Gate 3: Artificer Class Guide ALL Subclasses | Mod” by TiBone! I wanted an in-game look at some of the stuff that class gets you, specifically the Alchemist subclass since that’s what Smiler will be specializing in. There’s some pretty cool stuff to play with – such as “Infusions,” which I guess are a bit like cantrips, only unique to Artificers? You can use them to boost your defense or attack power (either with weapons or spells), give yourself a lot more carry capacity with a “Bag of Holding” (just remember NOT to cast it twice in a row, because otherwise you’re not going to like the results. . .), and summon mechanical familiars. :D Alchemists in particular get the ability to pop experimental elixirs into existence (what you get is completely random but looks to be always good – there’s healing potions, flight potions, boldness potions for when you want a boost to attack rolls or saving throws, etc); use their alchemical supplies as a “focus” for spellcasting that gives you a bonus to one roll (either for healing or for inflicting acid, poison, fire, or necrotic damage); the ability to add temporary hit points to all their potions and just cast the “Lesser Restoration” spell basically for free; and eventually get the ability to “salvage elements” from things to turn into potion ingredients! Plus they get some cool end-game armor that lets them summon Ooze friends. XD It looks like a really cool class to play with, which is tipping me in favor of leveling THAT up to level 12 when it comes to Smiler’s multiclassing instead of their starting Bard class. We’ll see how I feel once I actually get closer to that point in-game, of course – gonna be a while before I have to actually make the decision!
2. Continue writing “Start At The Beginning. . .Sort Of”: Check – and yes, I decided to continue with my Valicer In The Dark story tonight, since I felt like I didn’t really give it a fair shot yesterday. Wondering if I should swap schedules with “Londerland Bloodlines: Downtown Queensland” now. . . *shrug* At any rate, today saw the group reach Everglot Manor, talking about Emily’s predicament along the way. Smiler said that they’d be happy to help find her a body if she wanted to become a vampire, but Emily was against that plan – even the version where she evicted Barkis from HIS body in revenge (as Alice pointed out, all that got them was ghost!Barkis, which would probably be worse than the living version). They can figure out what to do with her later – she just wants to give Barkis some shit in the immediate future. Which, she shall be doing shortly, as a quick peek through the windows will reveal that the wedding dinner is in full swing. . .
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – caught up on the Josh Way video I missed yesterday – “SCREEN TIME: My Complicated Review of The Book of Clarence!” Which was exactly what it said on the tin – Josh’s complicated, rambly thoughts about The Book Of Clarence, a movie that recently came out that is a pastiche of Bible movies (specifically, it talks about the twin brother of the Apostle Thomas, Clarence, and all the various Gospels-related stuff he goes through) with a predominantly black cast and a distinct culturally Black aesthetic. Josh was of the opinion that he’s very glad the movie exists – he thinks its interesting and odd, and that it’s great to see people playing around with interpretations of the Bible and suchlike (leading him to reveal he happens to have a Master’s in religious literature and did a podcast on the Bible some time back, which – did not expect), but he doesn’t think it ended up having a lot to in and of itself, and that made him a bit disappointed. He was expecting something more subversive, and he feels it ended up veering into trite by the ending. He found it fascinating, but wanting, to put it simply. Personally, I suspect that part of the problem is that Josh, as a middle-aged white dude, is simply not the target audience, but. . . *shrug* Never even heard of this movie before I watched his video, so who am I to judge?
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check, though partly a substitution check –
Victor Luvs Alice – N/A tonight – substituted getting all of Moose’s messages answered! Glad to have those out of the inbox. :)
Valice Multiverse – No real activity, so I threw a meme where you ask characters questions about what they think about love and how they approach romance and such into the queue. *shrug* It’s something, and it might provoke an ask or two.
*nods* Not too bad, at least -- I mean, work sucked, but I was glad to write more on "Start At The Beginning. . .Sort Of" and get caught up on everything else. And now I have to head to bed and do it all again tomorrow. At least it's finally Friday. . .night all!
