Another Okay Thursday
Feb. 22nd, 2024 11:44 pmWhich wasn't as cold (yay) and was also decently productive (also yay) --
Work – All right day – Talky Coworker had to leave early because of family stuff, meaning I was spared her thoughts on a variety of subjects, and the phones were a LOT quieter today than they were the other day. Just a handful of credit card calls, most of which was pledge stuff. Add in a few merges and obituaries, and the time passed, albeit a bit slowly. *shrug* We’ll see what Friday’s like!
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – had a Sims-focused night on the bike today, getting through the following –
A) “♦ Birds ♦ Sims 1 vs Sims 2 vs Sims 3 vs Sims 4 – Evolution” by Red Plumbob! This video was all about having pet birds across the series. . .and also befriending wild birds in Sims 4 because the closest we have to pet birds in this generation are the raven and Sixam Owl familiars from Realm Of Magic. As you might imagine, it made the comparisons a little – weird. XD But it was a good, thorough dive into how all bird-related interactions worked and what was cool about each game (including a long shout-out to all the low-poly birds that populate the worlds in Sims 4 and make them feel more lively at the end). Personal opinion is that Sims 3 actually did this one the best – borrowing a lot from Sims 2’s birds but adding new stuff like an open-air habitat, the ability to take birds with you off-lot, and the chance to own both big AND little birds. Though I’m not sure how I feel about the game only giving you three kinds of birds to buy for each category and expecting you to get the rest by “adopting” them from the wild. Or getting your cat to hunt them down and grab them for you. XD Still, Sims 3 did birds well, and I applaud them for it. Now to see if Sims 4 ever tries to make us pay for proper pet birds in our game. . .
B) “Romantic Garden Stuff Is FREE: Here's How The Wishing Well Works” by Petey Plays It! This was a video made back when they were offering the Romantic Garden Stuff pack for free, and consisted of Petey going on at length about the wishing well, what a cool gameplay object it is, how wishing works, and the most interesting outcomes of all the various wishes (focusing on the most positive and most negative ones, including the deadly ones whenever available). I’m pretty sure I already watched something in the past covering all the various outcomes of all the various wishing well wishes, but it was nice to get a refresher, especially in that special Petey style. XD Makes me want to actually use the well in my game, honestly. . .actually, wait, didn’t I put one in that cemetery park I downloaded and revamped slightly for Forgotten Hollow? Maybe my Valicer trio should make a trip there. . .
2. Work on the OT3 Week Valicer prompts: Check – conquered the first prompt on the list today, “Meet Cute!” Which I immediately decided needed to be a Modern!AU fic (the one where they’re all college students), and detail Victor and Smiler’s first meeting (with Victor crashing into Smiler in a hallway because he was focused on meeting Alice after one of her classes, only to freeze up when Smiler told him it was fine because oh shit that’s the voice from my favorite hypnosis website) from Alice’s POV. Draft ran a little longer than I expected, but I’m reasonably happy with how it came out. At the very least, it’s a good base for editing later. :p
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Substitution check because there wasn’t anything in my Subs today (no Gray because Thursday, no Josh because he just didn’t upload today), so I instead got the two latest OXBoxtra lists out of my Watch Later –
A) “7 Abandoned Exclusives that PlayStation Did Dirty” – Luke and Ellen talking about those Sony-exclusive franchises that they’d LOVE to see brought back in the modern day after long absences! Making a new PaRappa the Rappa rhythm game for their VR headset, taking advantage of the new tech and the new game elements! Freeing Bloodborne from its PS4-exclusive prison via the medium of sequel or remake or just letting PC owners have a try, damn it! Even redoing The Order 1886 so it’s actually a GOOD game instead of a nice-looking-yet-humdrum title! There are so many things you could be doing other than making excellent Spider-Man games, Sony! I mean, KEEP making the excellent Spider-Man games, people love them, but you can do other stuff too!
B) “7 Upgraded Bosses Who Clearly Weren't Enough of a Jerk the First Time” – Jane, Mike, and Andy talking about those bosses who – after an initial defeat – came back either in the same game or a future installment upgraded and ready to rumble once again! From King Kaliente the lava-dwelling octopus evolving from “relatively simple coconut-tennis boss” to “rather more difficult coconut-tennis boss with more shit to throw at you” across the levels of Super Mario Galaxy, to Jo Amon changing from “early starter boss allowing you to learn that one of your characters actually has access to real-time combat in this otherwise turn-based combat game” to “tough-as-nails final boss who summons in extra family members to help kick your ass” in Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, to ultimate SNK Boss (aka one of the most unfair beat-em-up bosses out there) Rugal from King Of Fighters 94 getting an entirely-unnecessary OMEGA form in King of Fighters 95 and making everyone who already hated him from his original game hate him EVEN MORE, these previously-defeated bosses should NOT have been allowed to return and make our lives even harder. *shakes fist* Stay down when we defeat you, you whippersnappers!
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – nothing much to do on Victor Luvs Alice, but I had one anon ask for the Inevitable High School AU universe on The Valice Multiverse, where a kid stopped Victor, Alice, and Smiler to watch them do a cool kickflip – and crashed onto their back with a worryingly loud thud. And then asked for the nurse. *wince* Victor’s run off for the requested nurse, while Alice and Smiler are staying with the kid – Alice asking them to stay still, while Smiler reassures them that it WAS a cool kickflip. XD They wouldn’t be Smiler if they didn’t look on the bright side!
*nods* I'm happy with that -- especially getting the stuff out of my Watch Later so I don't have to worry about it this weekend. :p And now it is time for me to wrap things up here and head to bed, because I still have one workday this week to get through before the weekend. *nods* Night all!
