Victorian Trivia and New Secundus Chapter!
May. 8th, 2012 10:20 pmYup, just put up Chapter 18 of "Secundus!" This one is basically build-up to the epicness in Chapter 19. But I still think it's worth a read.
As for the trivia, it's for Forgotten Vows. He and Alice are trying to escape Houndsditch and get a place of their own. The ideal situation is to get a home in the country, but for now they're willing to rent a flat in the city. I've been trying to find out rents on Victorian era apartments so I can see how much they'd need to get out. Along with other living expenses. There's not a lot of info, though. Bit frustrating, really.
-VD: You haven't found anything?-
I found some stuff that might be relevant -- except I have no idea what the terms mean. Got to google what exactly a "two up two down" is. O.o I did find something that might give me a potential salary for Victor. My idea is for him to illustrate calling cards at the moment -- apparently this was an actual career. I was poking around one of my sites looking for salaries, and I found something on weekly salaries for various jobs. I didn't see "artist," but I did see "paper worker," so I went with that. It's 25 shillings a week, apparently -- or 1 pound 5 shillings converted.
-M: Doesn't sound like a lot.-
It's more than you think -- pounds are not like dollars. (Which reminds me, I think I have to go into Secundus at some point and fix the salaries, because when I first started writing that's just what I assumed. ^^;) They buy a lot more, especially back then. So that would be 100 shillings a month, or 5 pounds, and 1,200 shillings a year, or 60 pounds. Not a high salary, but it might just pay for a cheap flat (especially if Alice got a job as well). I dunno, I'm probably putting WAAAY too much thought into my pretendy funtimes.
Not much else to say, except that I did get a page done on "The Tale," so getting that one chapter completed seems like a doable goal. I also moved the Steampunk Gulch Liddells (you know, EVL and family) into their new house. You'll get pictures next time I properly play them. As it is, I'm rewatching Helloween's Let's Play of "Alice: Madness Returns," so toodles!
