Happy Thanksgiving!
Nov. 26th, 2015 11:10 pmOur meal was German food as I have mentioned before -- bratwurst, red cabbage, a German version of mac and cheese, and black forest cake. The first three were a little more "meh" than anything -- bratwurst tastes like "a sausage hot dog," as my dad puts it, and while my mom was wild about the red cabbage, I found it just all right. Same with the mac and cheese. Dessert though? Oh man, black forest cake is gooooood. (For those not in the know, it's chocolate cake with cherries and whipped cream. And trust me, it all goes together veeeery well.) We've also managed to come up with next year's theme already -- Mom was joking about serving Spam and pineapple, and I ended up saying, "We COULD do Hawaiian. . ." So now we're having a luau next Thanksgiving. XD If we remember, of course.
Not much else to say about the day, really. I kept to my promise (mostly -- I went ahead and caught up on my webcomics and listened to a favorite song first) and worked on Alice first thing when I got on the computer. Took a little bit to get the ball rolling, but I've finished editing another section! Two more to go -- Alice discovering the last Victor memory and feeling guilty, and Alice confronting the Dollmaker. I think I can tackle those over the next three days. :) After that, though, it was mostly all about catching up on some of my videos. To whit:
-->Linkara's last review of Secret Origins Month -- which is actually a review of the origin of Black Widow! Which is a villain origin as he promised, as she started out on the side of the bad guys. It's actually an Iron Man story, featuring classic Tony Stark (and Linkara's Classic Drunk Tony, though he prefaces its appearance here with a monologue addressing the concerns of those who feel he's being disrespectful to alcoholics (he disagrees but respects their opinions)) being briefly seduced by the Widow, then distracted by her at a crucial moment. And -- that's about it, she actually doesn't show up that much. Linkara has promised to cover her again when he does another character's origin, so that's something.
-->Nostalgia Critic plays and reviews the first two Dragon's Lairs! With snarky commentary from Don Bluth! All setting up a plug for his upcoming Indiegogo campaign for a Dragon's Lair movie! (He actually tried a Kickstarter first, but canceled it when it became apparently he was only going to reach about halfway to his goal.) That plus the Jabberwock's Lair stuff Nebby drew of Victor and Alice recently inspired me to check out some DL stuff on YouTube.
I -- am really unimpressed with the first game.
No, I'm serious, this looks like a BOREFEST. I am NOT a fan of reusing so many of the rooms (at least in the playthrough I saw). Yes, fine, the second time they appear you usually have to go through them the other way around, but -- eeugh. Maybe it's just because I didn't have to pull off the timing myself, but still. The SECOND game, which has distinct levels, slightly more plot, and ABSOLUTE INSANITY, looked like a hell of a lot more fun to me. Bluth, if you're doing a movie, use II as your inspiration.
-->Helloween's wrap-up of SOMA. Hells was very unimpressed with Simon's end-game attitude, and I am too, because he throws a shitfit about something HE ALREADY KNEW WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. We were also unimpressed with how the "villain" of the game gets taken down -- Zero Punctuation had warned me it was essentially a case of "take a detour to flip the off switch before concluding the main plot," but I'd thought he was exaggerating. Instead, pretty much spot on. Oh SOMA. . .you know, it's not a bad game, but I think they could have done a hell of a lot more with it. Maybe when Helloween releases his thoughts video on it I'll take a moment to have a prattle myself.
Of course, after finishing the SOMA LP, I had to look at the SOMA TV Tropes page, aaaand you can guess where my afternoon went. ^^; At least it's a four-day weekend. As it stands, I'm gonna do the tumblr thing, and catch up on any DW tags I might have. Night all!
