It's a "Bomb Cyclone"
Jan. 3rd, 2018 11:17 pmGenuine term the weather people have been using today -- it essentially means "winter hurricane." Forecasts have settled on 8 to 14 inches of snow for the whole state, with high winds (gusts up to 60 mph) and near-whiteout conditions. I don't have work tomorrow, and neither does my mother -- we're all staying in and keeping our fingers crossed the power doesn't go out! Fortunately my dad's friend, who is also now one of our neighbors, says that they usually only lose power once a year, and it's never off for more than a day, so that's somewhat encouraging. Considering this storm is a lead-in to a weekend full of subzero-thanks-to-windchill temperatures, though. . . Yeah. Definitely hoping the power stays ON.
Work was mildly hectic as a result, with everyone talking about the weather (I educated my coworkers on what a "bomb cyclone" is) and scrambling to get some last-minute stuff done. I FINALLY got my "can't download files from this thing" problem fixed, at least, so now updating e-mail addresses is a breeze. Also sent out an e-mail for one of my supervisors, as that seems to be my "thing" now. Ah well, nice to be needed. . . Rest of the day was mainly putting on gifts and doing a few obituaries. Can't let the maintenance pile up, after all!
Ride home was rather "fun" -- seems like EVERYONE was out on the road, and there were accidents all over the place. Dad and I ended up cutting through the city to reach an empty stretch of highway. Took a full half-hour to make it back. Which is STILL better than I would have had trying to get home from Wakefield, admittedly -- really glad now to be in a neighborhood so close to my job! Once I got home, I:
-->Made sure my phone, iPad and computer were all charged up, just in case.
-->Wrote some on "Fixing You" -- I'm about halfway through Victor and Alice's stop in the Mysterious East. Victor's impressed the Origami Ants by doing some block puzzles. XD And I've learned what your typical cup of Oolong tea looks like -- a nice golden color. Writing fanfic -- fun AND educational!
-->Watched a new 60 Seconds video from Jay, where he sought out another of the new endings from the DLC. He ended up getting two -- one where the family was kicked out by cats, and one where they were sent into space on a rocket by a scientist (though the ending card suggests the rocket crashed and the scientist might have just been scamming them to get their shelter). Fun times, although poor Jay admitted for filming for over 2 HOURS to get that scientist ending. Poor guy kept falling victim to raiders. Worth it in the end, though!
-->Updated my VictorLuvsAlice queue with some New Year's Resolutions for my AU fics (mainly, stop coming up with so many new ideas and focus on the ones you have, darn you) and a progress report on "Fixing You" (basically saying what I just said above). I also drafted out a couple more installments of the Van Dort Mega Update for Newcrest Adventures. Hey, if I've already got the pictures, I might as well get them ready to go for the next few Wednesdays, right? Will certainly make queuing after the weekends easier. . .
And -- that's about it, except for supper and welcoming Mom home. *shrug* Gonna go now answer my DW RP comment, leave a review I've been meaning to write for a while, and just chill, I suppose. Uh, no pun intended. If I don't update tomorrow, I'm likely fine -- just lacking power and/or internet. Keep your fingers crossed that doesn't happen! Night all!
