Successful Friday
Aug. 3rd, 2018 11:11 pmConquered my work project -- going back in this morning with a clear head allowed me to figure out (I believe, anyway) how last year's files were made. Turns out I didn't have to bother with the exports -- running stuff straight from the queries seemed to work. And took less time too. I made up workbooks for all the campaigns I believe the auditors need to look at and sent them out into the world. Took pretty much all morning, but so worth not to have that over my head for the weekend! And I got what is hopefully the last system sync done between us and our processing company, since we'll be on the new database by the end of the month. Got a few projects waiting for me on Monday, but with a few people on vacation next week (including my director), it should be a lot calmer. Fingers crossed, anyway. . .
Afternoon was fairly productive too -- I did end up cruising TV Tropes for a little while (reading the BioShock pages, since I'm finishing up the DLC for the second one and getting ready to start on the third), but I also:
-->Got a very nice chunk done on Chapter 3 of "Fixing You" -- Dr. Fixxler explaining magic to our intrepid couple, and discovering something a bit weird about Victor's aura (not dangerous, just -- his little adventure Downstairs ended up doing something to it). Hopefully the exposition is coming out in a fun way!
-->Worked some more on the Van Dort's new house in Sims 4 -- though I STILL haven't completed it! I blame two main factors:
A) Me spending probably more time than was necessary getting the upstairs family bathroom just right (getting the layout to work, especially with all their decorative stuff, was a bit of a trick)
B) Me having no clue where I"m going to put the kitchen O.o This house just doesn't seem built for one. I mean, I have an idea of where I want to put the dining area, but the most obvious place for the kitchen has two awkward doors. . .
I did at least get Emma's room fixed up, along with Victor's music room and Alice's art room. I also made a start on a reading/writing nook upstairs, and getting Victor's new greenhouse organized (which involves many planters). Unfortunately, I don't even have any pictures to share, since there's apparently a bug with the new patch that makes screenshots blurry. Here's hoping they fix that soon, otherwise I'm going to be a little stuck this Wednesday. . . (Figures that would happen when I'm out of buffer!)
-->Watched The Sim Supply's latest "Rags to Riches Seasons" episode -- more flower arrangements were sold, and then the family all went skating at the local ice rink for Luna's birthday! Her son Richie even baked her a cake! It was all very sweet -- even if the youngest member of the family quit skating early and then went to bed and missed all of it. XD I'm really enjoying this LP -- it's so far from him usual, and it's awesome. Makes you feel like he really should play families more often.
-->Watched Helloween's latest Resident Evil 4 set -- through the power of foresight, Leon conquered a not-very-difficult hedge maze and killed a bunch of cultists trying to trap him. He also ran into Ada Wong, who is being mysterious and has flash-bang sunglasses. O.o I confess, I have NO idea what Ada's deal is -- all I know is that she is apparently on no one's side but her own, and she and Leon have some UST or something. She leads to cool cutscenes, though. Still haven't found Ashley, but Hells has picked up a rocket launcher. Almost as good! And the NPC trying to help us, Luis, has gotten speared through the chest by Sadler and died. :( Not without getting Leon some drugs to help him fight off that pesky zombification, though. Fare thee well, Luis -- we shall kick the heads off some cultists in your honor.
-->Also watched a "Fun With Shorts" featuring a rather dumb and mildly racist old cartoon about a superstitious cat being outfoxed by a clever blackbird -- only for the blackbird to fall prey to superstition himself at the end. As usual, Josh's riffs were the best thing about it.
-->Got my Valice Multiverse queue done, and my VictorLuvsAlice one up to the first half of Sunday, as per usual. Nothing too special there, but it is nice to have that all settled.
And now I'm answering whatever messages I've still got lying around. Been getting some nice comments on "Fixing You," which is good -- glad to see people are still into this series. :) Hopefully the trend continues with future chapters! Right now, though, I've got an RP comment to cover -- night all!
