crossover_chick: gif with Doc and Marty trying to get out of being written into twisted AUs (Default)
-->Got my room cleaned, including taking a moment before I'd fully remade my bed to give my Ghostbusters minimates a better cleaning (they're on the shelf right in the middle of everything, so they're hard to reach from my usual position). Ended up doing all my minimates while I was there, which saved me a bit of time later on. Even with a week skipped, the place wasn't very dirty at all. I like that about my room.

-->Watched the videos I'd missed from the "Burtonmas" playlist by "The Princess and the Scrivener" I shared a few days back -- one about Burton's Batman and why it probably wouldn't fare well with audiences today (at least in the Princess's opinion), one about what they consider Burton's best film, Big Fish (a worthy title as it is a good movie -- though, as they note, not that Burtonesque), and one about a couple of Burton's shorts (the fairly decent original "Frankenweenie" short -- though this one brought up how Burton said he specifically didn't want to do callbacks to other versions of Frankenstein AND THEN DID A BUNCH OF CALLBACKS TO OTHER VERSIONS OF FRANKENSTEIN TIM DO YOU THINK AT ALL -- and a truly atrocious adaptation of "Aladdin" -- which even Burton will acknowledge is bad, so yeah). Interesting stuff, though it hasn't done much for my opinion of Tim Burton.

-->Played some BioShock Infinite -- I have finished the main game! I'd looked up some hints on how to do the "defending the airship" section, and laying traps around the core to defend it helped a lot, it seems. I still got my ass fairly kicked, but I managed to get past the bullshit and into the endgame! Which. . .honestly, it's not bad -- it looks beautiful, and it has interesting ideas -- but I think it could have been better. Specifically, I think it needed to be a little longer -- I would have loved brief scenes showing where all the potential Elizabeths came from. You can't just throw a bunch of alternate Elizabeths at us like that, game! I know you're a bit mind screwy, but come on! *sigh*

Overall, I enjoyed the game (especially Murder of Crows, tee hee), but the story seemed to get lost a couple of times along the way. I especially don't like the whole "Elizabeth and Booker go into alternate universes and somehow expect a Daisy Fitzroy who saw Booker die to just give them an airship like the version of her they were first dealing with IN THE FIRST UNIVERSE promised" thing in the midgame. It makes both Booker and Elizabeth look like idiots. Although, admittedly, how tears work is also confusing? Like, it is REWRITING the reality you're in, or are you actually moving between two different worlds? The presence of people who recall being both dead and alive suggests the former, but one of the big end-beats, where Booker is pulled into a bad future, then sent back again, suggests the latter. . . *shrug* Plus the whole "the Vox are supposed to be bad extremists too but that doesn't work very well in the current political climate." Like I said, it was enjoyable, and I liked the characters for the most part. But I wouldn't call it my favorite of the series. (That honor, interestingly, goes to BioShock 2, because frankly Delta and Eleanor give me all the feels.) I do still have to play the "Burial at Sea" DLC -- maybe that'll clear a few things up. Or make everything more confusing, who knows.

-->Wrote the first half of the last new "Technicolor Phase" short, Alice Red -- about Victoria seeing Victor and Alice having a bit of a moment at the piano, and it making her realize she's starting to have feelings for Alice too. . .once I've got this rough draft completed, I can go ahead and start posting chapters again, as I revise the new ones! :) Looking forward to it.

-->Watched another Burton-critical video -- this one by Jack Saint, all about why Burton's Alice In Wonderland doesn't work. TL;DR version: yes, movie is pretty and has a few beats that work, but the story is completely at odds with the tone of the original Alice books, and isn't even internally consistent as it tries to spout the moral of "be your own person" while in practice showing Alice, at least in Wonderland, doing everything that is expected of her and having little agency. Which is completely fair -- I still kind of like the movie myself, but it's a terrible Wonderland movie, and I think I mainly like it for that garden party scene at the beginning. Gives me ideas for stories. :p Also Alice's garden party dress, that's beautiful.

-->And watched Helloween's latest Castlevania set -- he must be feeling better, yay! He completed the last two paintings -- spooky London street and topsy-turvy circus part two -- and handed in a few quests. He's got to go around now and fill out his map percentage a little more to make sure he's met some arcane requirement to unlock the true ending or something -- next week, we fight Brauner! That'll be fun :)

-->Finally, posted the latest "Scenes From Secundus" -- drummer, which is about Lewis Carroll's funeral. No, they didn't hire a drummer to perform; my brain interpreted the prompt as "rain drumming on a carriage roof." Don't remember why. . .anyway, sorry to start the Scenes on a depressing note in the New Year, but that's just how it worked out.

And now I have to go answer some comments in my inbox, as that and tumblr RP is what I do on Saturday nights. But yeah, nice productive Saturday -- we'll see if Sunday is the same! Night all!
