Well, There Goes The Car
Jul. 18th, 2019 11:24 pmNot the new one -- that's running fine, and thank God. I mean the old one, that I was driving now that Mom had her new car. It broke down on me.
On the highway.
Before anyone asks, I'm fine. What happened was, I was on my way home from work, driving up the highway toward my exit, when suddenly the front of the car starts rattling and vibrating. Cue me going, "Is that the car, or the road? I know RI roads are pretty shitty, but--"
And then something just GOES in the car and I can FEEL it's not right. "OKAY IT'S ME HIT THE TURN SIGNAL AND GET INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE."
Fortunately I manage to coast right into the breakdown lane, get the car in park, and get the flashers on. I take a minute to catch my breath, then -- after a quick check to see if the car wants to go (it does not) -- turn it off and call Dad. He tells me to sit tight but get out of the car and stand away from it. Sound advice, since I'm near a corner that a lot of people take VERY close to the breakdown lane. I get out the passenger side and wait, wondering what the fuck happened.
Dad manage to get to me, gets annoyed that I have the flashers on (because of the whole 'mysterious dead battery' situation the other night -- he thought that was the problem at first), and then checks out the car. It starts up, so we decide to attempt to drive it -- me in the car, him following in the truck, just so we can try to get it home. I try putting it in drive and hitting the gas -- nothing. I try this a couple of times, Dad gets out to see why I'm not moving, I demonstrate, he tells me to stop and says that it sounds like the transmission's gone. Cue a call to Triple A to have the car towed -- fortunately the guy doesn't take too long to show up, and we manage to get ourselves and the car home. Dad apologizes for his initial annoyance, and we come to the conclusions that:
a) either the transmission or the drive shaft is what went in the car, based on what I felt when it broke down
b) it is in NO WAY worth fixing as the car was already on its last legs, so to speak, and Mom has her car now.
Soooo yeah. Car's going to a junker tomorrow, and we are back to having just two vehicles for the time being. Currently my parents are gonna pick me up and drop me off from work, then Mom will probably let me drive her car for a bit to and from work until I get my own (which will probably be at some point in the future, if we think we have the room for it -- it's just a bit difficult to juggle three cars when we really only have room for two). The creepy thing is, apparently Mom was talking to Dad about how she was worried the car was going to quit on me, and Dad had just gotten his phone from the kitchen minutes before I called in case someone needed to reach him. So, uh, yeah. That was freaky. Just glad nothing horrible happened and I got home in one piece.
In lighter news, once I was home, evening proceeded rather better:
-->Fixed up the typos in "Fixing You" (date issues with chapters 12 and 17 -- I accidentally went BACK a day instead of going forward) and posted the next part of "A Wedding, A Wedding" -- I Love My Love With An Amethyst! It's pretty much pure Victor proposal fluff, so hopefully you're all into that.
-->Watched a couple of Sim Supply videos -- the latest episode of "Rags To Riches Island Edition" (Banana is now a mermaid! . . .it's rather underwhelming, sadly. But she has discovered the knack for finding treasures in the local cave, brought the island up to Thriving status, and finally earned enough money from her yard sales to buy an actual lot for a retail store. So she's doing good! Despite her needs almost always being horrible and glitching out so that she can't pee or eat); and a collab with Deli about *heavy air quotes* "driveable" cars in Sims 4 (achieved -- in the loosest sense of the word -- by using the new liveeditobjects unlocked cars and setting them as Sim heads so the Sims basically carry them around on their noggins XD. Also featured deliberately horrible "ads" for each other's LPs XD). Just the dose of funny I needed today.
-->Got my queues sorted on VictorLuvsAlice and Valice Multiverse -- ahead a couple of days again on the former, which is good. Now I just have to see what'll be what next week. . .
Right now, though, I gotta hit the sheets. Amazing how time flies. . .well, hopefully after all this, I've earned a QUIET Friday. Fingers crossed, everybody. Night all!
