A Laborious Day In Fallout 4
Sep. 2nd, 2019 10:04 pmPlus side: I buckled down, got everything I needed, and finally finished the "Taking Independence" quest! I have sorted out the Minutemen's Castle, sent Strong off to a settlement, and am now free to move onto the ACTUAL MAIN STORYLINE!
Minus side: SO. MANY. FREAKING. DEATHS. Mostly because, as I suspected, I was underleveled for the quest. Also because I ran into synths and raiders on the way there. Also ALSO because it's IMPOSSIBLE to clear all the mirelurk eggs from the Castle before the Mirelurk Queen makes her appearance, and the hatchlings are shockingly hard to hit. Also Also ALSO the Queen seemed bloody magnetized to me most of the time meaning I almost never got a chance to get away and heal. And then, when I FINALLY managed to take her down with a combination of fragmentation grenades, molotovs, and the minigun, I couldn't get the damn radio powered up! I actually had to take a break and come BACK to it after dinner so I could look up what I was doing wrong and figure out how to connect the generators to the damn thing! (Turns out I had to connect all the generators I built to EACH OTHER, then connect the lot to the radio.) Easily one of the more frustrating nights I've had in Fallout 4. And I swear, if I had to hear Strong go on about how he'd won when I did all the work in killing a monster. . . He's got some stuff of mine, so I do have to go and see him again at some point, but as far as I'm concerned, his ass can stay at County Crossing for the rest of his life. Ugh. And of course I've still got a bunch of sidequests cluttering up my Pip-Boy. . .but they can all freaking WAIT. I NEED to get to Diamond City already and see about, you know, ADVANCING THE GAME.
*deep breath* So -- yeah. Still kinda glad that I ended my vacation on that, though, as it means Saturday after next, I can just play Bloodlines. I think I need a little break to clear my head regarding Fallout 4 after so many tough fights and deaths. I mean, I've had tricky fights in Bloodlines (witness the hell that was Brother Kanker), but I just seem to get less angry at that game overall.
Anyway, today was not all about getting frustrated at Fallout -- most of it was some final catching-up on YouTube:
-->Listened to my Wyrd Sisters Podcast on the seventh Discworld book, Pyramids -- I've always considered this one of the more forgettable books in the series, but the podcast reminded me that it's definitely a great book in its own right! The problem with the one-shots in Disc is that they tend to get overshadowed by the books that are part of the mini-series within the series, and Pyramids gets this particularly bad because I don't think anything really came of the Egyptian parody country it was set in. At least, I don't remember it playing a big part in future books. . .but yeah, it is still a good read, and I was happy to hear them go on about it. :)
-->Watched the OXBox team take on another Hitman 2 escalation, this time in the suburban cul-de-sac -- with the homing briefcase! :D Yeah, Mike finally got the damn thing unlocked, so they were flinging it at passersby at the slightest provocation. XD To the point where Andy, eager to use it on a jogger to show off its cornering capabilities, knocked said jogger unconscious IN FRONT OF A COP. Well, park ranger, but STILL. XD The whole escalation kinda was a "full Mike" dealy, given everybody wanted to play with the briefcase, and the escalation itself was very silly -- "pacifying" people with packages, rakes (set up as the classic "step on it and smack! with the handle" gag), and newspapers, all while dressed as a mailman. XD Mike himself handled the final level, and it was all delightfully ridiculous. I love them playing Hitman, I swear. Light of my week.
-->Finally got to the latest Atop the Fourth Wall -- the final and stupidest A-Team comic, which featured a lot of anti-Commie propaganda, a stupid plot, a boring plan, and an admittedly cool-looking spy plane which they ended up blowing up. Linkara was unimpressed, though at least he had fun doing his "Mr. T" voice again. XD
-->Also fit in a Rabbid Luigi video on the easiest hard modes -- hard modes that, thanks to game balancing issues, really don't live up to the name. Apparently BioShock Infinite's 1999 mode isn't that difficult so long as you keep your shield up. Not that I have any intentions of playing that mode, but -- good to know?
-->And ended on a lovely Sims 4 video from Call Me Kevin, in which the two Santas he imprisoned in his family were forced to fight to the death! Naked, no less. XD Also, Jim's father Dick Pickens from the "prequel" stories from previous Sims generations is back, with his lover, Mole 2. So THAT'LL be interesting. Oh, Kevin, why is your evil so amusing? I'm seriously looking forward to what he'll do with Realm of Magic.
Speaking of Sims, I'm actually rather proud of myself -- I got ALL my Newcrest Adventures posts for Wednesday's update done today! Yeah, I ended up doing the first last night before going to bed, then got the other three sorted today while waiting on lunch/for my mom to go to work. Saved me getting interrupted in the middle of a video, and means I have less to worry about with this week's queue! :D Gonna try and build on that success this week by getting next week's pictures sorted early -- we'll see how that goes!
And, as I promised myself, I got more written on "Secundus 2" -- starting the wedding chapter, aka the big climax of the story. Which starts out with Doc asking for Victor's help in how to tie a tie. XD What, I looked it up for another thing, and I wanted to show off! It'll get more serious soon enough. Especially when the kidnappings start. And Doc has to pull out the damn flying steam train. :D Looking forward to that bit!
So yeah -- fairly productive final day of the vacation! We'll have to see if my first day at work is as productive. . .I just hope the traffic isn't a nightmare. Gonna have to make sure I leave at just the right time! No more summer lagging. :( And no more built-in three day weekends until October, bleh.
Well, I got a pretty damn good stretch of time off, so I think I'll manage. Right now, comments and bed. Gotta at least TRY to get some sleep tonight. Night all!
