No Fun Saturday
Feb. 27th, 2021 11:38 pmOkay, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but between the chores I had to get done today, my parents having an argument about what they need to do about getting a new bed/bed frame (I don't know all the details), me whacking my knee on my own bed (which is basically a mattress on a large wooden platform full of shelving) and bending my thumbnail on the cabinet door, and the weather today being rainy, raw, and chilly -- yeah, I've had better Saturdays. But on the plus side --
1. Get room cleaned and blankets and whatnot in the wash: Check – an unfortunately late start this morning, thanks to my parents rearranging their room a bit (mainly turning their new rug, which is quite the process with their bed frame) and me just getting up later than I expected to, but the cleaning got done by three-ish, and the laundry around 4:45ish. So yeah, most of the day, which – is about typical of a big cleaning Saturday, honestly.
2. Get taxes done: Check – got that started around 3:30, done by 4:30. Less refund that I would like this year thanks to the unemployment stuff in late March and April, but I still GOT a refund, so I won’t complain too much.
3. Write some more on "Londerland Bloodlines": Check – Alice has not actually gotten to the point of her very first feed, but we’re another page closer to it, with Jack explaining a bit about the process to her. And about Malkavians, since she ended up talking to the Queen of Hearts out loud. Alice is feeling a little iffy about being a bloodsucker right at the moment, but both Jack and Cheshire have convinced her it’s better to drink from this one guy while she still has control instead of possibly Frenzying and waking up to a whole bunch of bodies, so. . .
4. Keep up on YouTube Subscriptions, including the Wyrd Sisters Podcast: Check, plus a bonus video – though that was under unusual circumstances, as you shall see –
A) Started with said Wyrd Sisters Podcast, covering The Fifth Elephant! It was a good listen – I’d forgotten just how jam-packed this book was, and how much happened in it! Mostly because I tend to remember it as “the one where Vimes beats up a werewolf at the bottom of a waterfall in just a pair of slacks.” XD The trio of Manning, Dani, and Liz were effusive in their praise (as Manning put it, “this book slaps”), though as usual they brought up a few iffy things. Mainly, the subplot of Colon turning into a petty tyrant while he’s been left in charge of the Watch and the other watchmen essentially unionizing and striking in protest doesn’t hit quite the same in a post “the cops have shot SOOO many black people” world. It’s less funny and more “eeeeh. . .” Nobby’s cross-dressing is also something they have mixed feelings about, though they do appreciate that the joke is more on people trying to make Nobby feel bad about his forays into women’s clothing, and Nobby just doing his thing. And they agreed the villain’s monologue/breakdown was handled very well, despite skirting on a common “I am the thing that I hate” trope. Good stuff, as per usual.
B) Then tonight we had a short video from Kevin featuring more PokerStars VR! And more of him being a goof and annoying people by throwing Jim dolls at them. XD His turn at a Wild West-themed table was marked mainly by taking pictures with a guy who had a sort of Polaroid-selfie stick thing and annoying away someone who apparently came here for serious poker; then the rest of the video was spent in a more modern environment trying to be the Valentine of one PokinSmot, who clearly was not impressed with Kevin and his shenanigans. Which, of course, just inspired Kevin to further shenanigans. XD Short but sweet – wouldn’t mind more of these!
C) Then, in a surprise twist – no GrayStillPlays video! O.o Yeah, as it turned out, he either was just really late uploading or ran into trouble with YouTube – his video didn’t show up until ten o’clock tonight! So I went over to my Watch Later and cleared out Linkara’s latest Atop the Fourth Wall episode – “Pokémon 15x01-02: Enter Elesa & Dazzling the Nimbasa Gym!” Yeah, another Patreon-sponsored review of a TV show, and this time it was the Pokémon anime. Sadly for Linkara, the episodes picked were pretty mediocre and showcased some of the dumbest parts of said anime – namely, that the region they were in functioned as a sort of “soft reboot” for the series and allowed them to reset some of Ash’s character development so he was back to “dumb kid” mode. The first episode earned his ire for having Ash fight a friend’s battle for her (literally – he battled her father to allow her to continue her Pokémon journey, after her attempt to win a badge from the gym leader failed) – and then lose for no real reason (fortunately the fight reminded the father of the fun he had as a trainer himself, and he gave Bianca his blessing to continue); the second for having Ash make some stupid decisions during the battle after a decently strong beginning – namely, TRYING TO RELY ON ONE POKEMON THROUGH A THREE-PART FIGHT. And then the anime said it was bad that he even tried to make a plan, and he should have relied on his instincts. And Pikachu. *sigh* Linkara wasn’t impressed, I wasn’t impressed, nobody went home happy.
D) And then I went onto Valice Multiverse, discovered it was still dead as a doornail, and went, “Fuck it, I’m watching Gray” and loaded up his latest – another Minecraft Parkour! :D This one was solar-system-based, featuring a variety of planets including “burning hell system,” “water planets you have to fall into system,” and “literal graveyard system.” Gray bounced and climbed and fell to his death a number of times, but managed to make it all the way to the end in what I believe to be a little over an hour! And hopefully without even causing himself permanent damage! (No, seriously, he admitted that he changed the key binding for jumps in this game because of the eight-hour hell course he did last time possibly fucking up his wrist. Gray, please don’t hurt yourself for our entertainment.)
So yeah, at least I cleared out everything on that AND got another thing out of my Watch Later! Granted, I have since gone and added another thing back in, but. . . XD Nice to be a bit productive despite everything! Even caught up on most of my DW comments, and got cookies, hot chocolate, and ice cream with a chocolate chip cookie bar. Om nom ;p
Okay, gotta finish catching up on comments, then see what's happening elsewhere on the web for the evening. Let's set up tomorrow's to-do list:
1. Watch the two videos in my Watch Later, Call Me Kevin's latest, and Jon's FO4 YOLO episode
2. Either organize some of my notes documents or write another random snippet
3. Play some A:MR and see about finishing up the Hatter's Domain
4. Get in a workout
I feel this is reasonable for a Sunday -- I'd put in either A:MR or Sims 4, but as the latter just had its anniversary patch, and the MC Command Center site doesn't actually have an update as to whether or not it needs a hotfix. . . *sigh* At least I already have pictures for a Newcrest Adventures update this week?
