Spoke Too Soon Friday
Feb. 26th, 2021 11:19 pmStress levels ended up jumping up all over again at work! Coworkers being a pain in the ass, ANOTHER problem with the credit card stuff that I HOPED had been fixed but OF COURSE NOT. . . Didn't help I wore a shirt that kept riding up my back all day and was just a BIT too thin for the weather, so I was chilly most of the day too. Just -- not a great Friday. Especially not one that precedes a chore-filled Saturday.
I did at least make good progress on the afternoon to-do list. . .
1. Get in a workout: Check! Got on the treadmill today for a slightly-longer shot with Jon’s Fallout 4 Survival Playthrough! Finished up episode 57 with Jon successfully sneaking around the other mutants inside the hotel to make it to the keypad that opened the secret room within – a special little bunker with lots of beautiful, clean, pre-War amenities. . .and two skeletons surrounded by blood. Consulting the terminal and getting the explanatory holotape from it revealed this was an Army guy holed up with someone woman named “Franny,” who’d tortured him for a set of nuclear launch codes because apparently she’d been hired by someone to steal them. The guy eventually gave up the location and the code to get into them, reasoning it was already the end of the world – and hey, it was good old Fringe Docks! Seems there’s more than just Bloodrage Mirelurks with a taste for Grills’s flesh there. And then the Army guy shot Franny when she tried to leave, and they just died together in the room. The universe of Fallout, everybody!
With that out of the way, Jon started episode 58 by escaping the hotel (and taking out a couple more Super Mutants along the way), before swimming off to a new location – a trio of islands, one of which was the location for Cranberry Island Bog. Apparently his commenters had been telling him to go check the place out, and he was keen. First was a stop on one of the smaller islands, which was revealed to have the name Huntress Island! Not too much there beyond some smashed-up houses and a lot of nasty wildlife. Including a fair few Legendary animals with super-crappy weapons. XD I swear, it’s either feast or famine when it comes to Legendary drops for Jon. . .
Anyway, after killing a bunch of wolves and bears and gulpers, Jon headed over to the big main island of the three, Cranberry Island, and found the tale of Eliza and her family – and puzzles! Yes, by following the path on Eliza’s homemade map, and the still-standing power lines above, you will find three pumping stations, each with a bit that needs repairing before it can be powered up. And each has multiple ways for you to tackle the problem – you can either do a straight repair if you have the needed junk; use an appropriately-high SPECIAL stat to jury-rig a different kind of repair; or just hit the damn thing and see if it works. XD Jon was so happy about these skill checks in a game that doesn’t really use them that he actually used his latest level up for a bit more Perception so he could pass the first SPECIAL check! After wandering around for a bit, discovering Eliza’s journals and reading about how the family kinda fell apart after the death of its matriarch (Grandpa slowly slipping into a fugue state; her father and one of her brothers arguing a lot more; her older brother Nathan bullying her), he managed to fix and reactivate all the pumps, which led to a secret little bunker!
Filled with the feral ghoulified remains of Eliza’s family! (I assume, anyway. . .) And here was Grills trying to kill them with his Tesla Rifle, which was just NOT doing the job. He managed to live through the mess, but it was a close thing! Left it just before he explored the actual room they were in more – wonder if we’ll get a final journal to tie up this sorry mess!
2. Work some more on “In A World Of His Own”: Check! Victor and Alice have successfully defeated the remaining Booksnaps, and have met the Grand High Wizard, ruler of this domain! He’s basically an animate set of robes with a hat, glasses, and a beard, combining some of Gutknecht’s general “wise man” demeanor with Fixxler’s showmanship. Fun little guy to write. XD They’re going up to see the Magical Menagerie now, which is where the real meat of the chapter occurs. . .
3. Keep up on YouTube Subscriptions: Check, at least for today’s videos – still have to catch up on the podcast from yesterday, but that’s a weekend project. For tonight, we had –
A) Kevin doing a full half-hour video on the first level or so of Little Nightmares II! He wanted to try a longer-form, less edited video for this game, and I think it was the right call – this shit was INTENSE, yo. For us and him – he went into this game blind, and he was kinda suffering from the oppressive atmosphere. And the traps. Which he kept triggering deliberately because Kevin. XD Yeah, it was kind of a perfect mix of Kevin Chaos combined with actual creepiness – I mean, this is a side-scrolling platformer about being a very small child (wearing a bag) in a world of big strange monstrous things (like a mannequin-man with a shotgun). There is ample opportunities for creepy. At any rate, via much trial, error, and rambling, Kevin managed to complete the first area, avoiding mannequin-man traps and saving another child – who I suspect is the previous game’s protagonist Six? *checks* Yup. There were some cute moments with the game encouraging them to hold each other’s hands, and a typical Kevin moment where he tried to get the new kid to lead Six down the open hatch to the attic – without using the ladder. XD Good stuff, and I wouldn’t mind seeing more – this long-form kind of content is good for horror games!
B) And on the other side of the spectrum, we had a normal-sized Gray video featuring more Happy Wheels! Another bottle flip with a frankly ludicrous amount of things to get (Yeet Master, Holy Pocket, Participation Trophy); a couple of hellish pojo jumps and spike falls; a jet fall where the jets were literally all over the place – but the highlight of today’s video? Dante’s “choose your own adventure” board, featuring not only a crooked bottle run with three ways to end (including killing a hater and going through a glass wall), but also a secret spike run that went into a spike fall! With a block in the middle to make falling down it with a bike, father, and son extra-difficult. Gray got it, as he always does, but he said that it took him like 500 tries, sooo – good job, Dante! XD
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Uh -- another hesitant "check?" because Valice Multiverse continues to be dead. O.o Part of me doesn't mind THAT much -- I'm feeling stressed and could use a quiet night -- but I am a little puzzled. Currently finding some fandom stuff to reblog instead, just to put something in the queue.
So yeah, that's my night. Now to answer some comments and see if I can do something with this -- not sure if it's a minor tension headache or a minor sinus one, but there is definitely a bit of discomfort. (Pretty sure it's tension, I was clenching my jaw a LOT earlier today.) Maybe I'll try to get to bed a little earlier. . . First, though, quick to-do list:
1. Get room cleaned and blankets and whatnot in the wash
2. Get taxes done
3. Write some more on "Londerland Bloodlines"
4. Keep up on YouTube Subscriptions, including the Wyrd Sisters Podcast
. . .yeah, we'll keep it at that, since the podcast is long, I may try to fit in other videos (like Linkara's latest), and I don't know what the status is on the Sims 4 patch vis-a-vis my mods. Will have to look that up later. But first, comments! Night all!
