crossover_chick: Doc snoozing on his couch (BTTF: exhausted)
Between juggling the GL, the phone I use for credit card stuff being taken offline without any warning (in error, but still), and trying to figure out some other issues with updates and the like, it was just -- not a good day. I didn't even get my full lunch break due to my need to answer the damn (regular) phone. And the icing on the cake was the day starting out miserable and rainy and ending up almost frighteningly windy. Tomorrow's supposed to have a windchill below freezing to start out! That'll be fun. . . Ugh, March is off to a freaking GREAT start.

Well, I made it through the day, and I did do pretty well on the checklist --

1. Get in a workout: Check – another round on the bike, and more time with episode 59 of Jon’s Fallout 4 Survival Playthrough! Today was mostly just him exploring the factory and reading terminals and the like. Turns out my joke yesterday about the “taste of Maine” involving copious amounts of fish was entirely accurate – the new flavor was made with a whole bunch of fishy things, including explicitly lobster. And yet it was a hit with the taste-testers – and one fisherman even said the lobsters were less inclined to snap at him after he got them out of the trap! Turns out this is the secret behind Captain’s Blend Vim!, which makes sea creatures less likely to attack you. Jon provided some interesting musing about the Mirelurk Kings of Fallout 4 perhaps being fishermen who drank too much of the stuff and mutated. XD

The rest of the terminal stories were rather less fun – a trip to the CEO office revealed that he was actively fighting a hostile takeover by Nuka-Cola, determined to save his family business without falling under the Nuka brand. And it was a hostile takeover – apparently Nuka-Cola was secretly sending people to attack trucks, steal cola, make off with a Vim! Ambassador set of power armor (promotional stunt as they lobbied to become Maine’s state beverage), and even set up a guy to be framed for groping a girl – which didn’t go well for the girl when she popped him, and he reflexively hit her right back. The rest of the terminals showed everyone in the company trying to do damage control, from the people on the factory floor preparing to organize and fight back if their CEO (trying to play down the attacks) wouldn’t, to head of R&D Madison Young going behind her boss’s back to set up some meetings between the Nuka-Cola rep and the investors. It’s kind of depressing stuff, and a healthy reminder that the pre-War world of Fallout was essentially “late-stage capitalism except even worse than reality.”

As for Grills himself, he was happy enough to grab as much Vim! as he could find in the factory (including Quartz, which helps with action point refresh), and go around killing as many Super Mutants and their hounds as he could find. A distinct lack of Legendaries, but he did get surprised by dogs suddenly appearing from behind their dying masters a couple of times. I left him having cleared out another lot of mutants who were taking a bath in the old Vim! tanks. XD And also avoiding a giant door that MAY have a Deathclaw behind it. Or a Fog Crawler. Hermit Crab? It is big and stompy and Jon does not want to fight it yet, that’s all I know.

2. Work some more on “In A World Of His Own”: Check! I’ve gotten Victor and Alice into the magical zoo to see some of the creatures (and indulged myself in some magical description – the staircase in the middle is now made of floating stones and glowing banisters, for instance), and they’re just about to meet Blue Ben and see how the terrariums for all the animals work (TARDIS-style – bigger on the inside). It’s a fun romp so far – I’m enjoying the mental images I’m getting for the Tower as I edit. :)

3. Keep up on YouTube Subscriptions: Check! Three videos in the Subs, and all taken care of –

A) Over in Call Me Kevin, we had Late Shift a FMV game that is basically an interactive movie – you control a night shift guard at a car park who is dragged into an extremely weird and complicated heist after ruining someone’s attempts to kidnap a girl, all centered around a certain rice bowl. Kevin had his guy alternate between trying to escape at every opportunity and basically take charge of the damn heist, leading to quite a few people ending up dead from things like his “partners” in crime lethally taking down some security guards, to said partners getting run off the road by another crime family, to the protagonist getting shot by said family when he can’t produce the bowl. Kevin went into this to make horrible choices, and horrible choices were made! It was decently tense, though, can’t deny that! And Kevin mocking everyone being obsessed with this tiny rice bowl was pretty freaking hilarious. XD

B) Then, in catching up with Gray –

I. More GTA V Stunt Races – another parkour course, this one with a focus on ramps and jumps with a bit of wall ride hell! Gray had to make quite a few leaps through various objects and up various ramps – there was a lot of shocked “wtf?!” babble as he found himself being launched upside-down or sideways into various tiny gaps or narrow platforms. And man, those ending jumps – you had to keep EVERY LAST BIT OF SPEED and land at JUST the right angle, otherwise you were not making it to the blimp in the ocean. ...It’s GTA V stunt races, just go with it. That was some prime Gray suffering.

II. And back with the classics with more Happy Wheels – and some truly masochistic boards! The bottle flips continue to get more and more crammed with crap, including “Black Still Plays,” “White Still Plays,” and “Green Still Plays” now, along with toilet death; the bottle runs are just getting longer and longer (Gray had to do a TWO-TIER one, and the amount of speed you needed for the first basically meant you’d probably explode by the time you hit the wall for the second); and the parkour courses get more and more masochistic (with two courses designed to murderlate Gray in as many ways as possible, including one that basically just smashed Gray to pieces at the very end). It’s incredible, the terrible creativity on display. Gray totally managed to win each board, but you gotta wonder the effect it’s having on his sanity. XD

4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Well, I got my usual done for a Monday – the pictures for the Newcrest Adventures update and put into draft posts on Victor Luvs Alice – so yeah, I’ll call this a check.

I mean, I still have comments to answer, but that's not bad for an afternoon. And hopefully tomorrow I will feel less frustrated/wiped after work so I can expend a little more energy on queuing and whatnot. As it is, I'd better wrap up my other stuff before I head to bed. Night all!
