crossover_chick: Doc in goggles and holding a big old plug with the words "feeling sparky..." (BTTF: feeling sparky/creative)
We had periods of dark clouds and sprinkles, with the temperature kind of going up and down -- it was still pretty nice OVERALL, but the uneven weather stopped us from playing beanbags, which was a little sad. On the other hand, my parents got plenty done in the garden, and the extra time allowed me to get more done on my to-do list, so that was good, at least. There will be other opportunities to toss bags into holes!

Speaking of the to-do list:

1. Bake my breakfast muffins: Check – did this after supper tonight! Came out a little dark thanks to the oven always heating up way faster than you expect, but they’re otherwise lovely. I’ll probably still be having some raisin toast breakfasts too, but now I’ve got options!

2. Watch the RE8 OXBox video in my Watch Later, keep up with YouTube Subs, and watch Jon's FO4 YOLO episode: Two-thirds check – due to stuff like lunch being a little later than normal, my aunt and uncle visiting (dropping off some lilies for my mom), and taking care of the other items on the to-do list, I never got a chance to look at my YouTube Subs. The two other videos, though, have indeed been watched –

A) Actually started early this morning with a little video from “Archer” about a moment where they “screamed the whole time” in Fallout 4 – namely, a moment in Vault 75 where their custom companion didn’t manage to get into the elevator while they were exploring it – and then a GUNNER ASSAULTRON managed to levitate in and blenderize the Sole Survivor before the player could even get VATS to respond. As the description said, “Heather knew what was up!” XD Glad that never happened to ME, sheesh. . .

B) Then, after A:MR, finally got around to Andy and Mike taking on the very beginning of Resident Evil Village! Jane will be present for future episodes. Today’s episode started us down the path toward the spooky castle and Tall Vampire Lady, featuring such fun as: backstory! (it’s been three years since RE7; Ethan and Mia now live in Europe – Mia is trying to forget that whole mess, but Ethan’s having trouble, and it’s causing some tension; six months ago they had a baby daughter, Rose) Ball physics! (aka you can kick the ball in Rose’s room out into the hall – but NOT down the stairs; Mike and Andy didn’t approve) Obscured faces! (apparently Ethan’s face MUST NEVER BEEN SEEN, not even in his wedding photos!) Cryptic Chris Redfield kidnapping Ethan’s baby after shooting the hell out of Mia! (She took that first bullet like a champ!) Car crashes! (aka how we get out of being kidnapped by Chris ourselves to actually play the game) Hand trauma! (Ethan is already missing two fingers from the hand Mia cut off while she was possessed thanks to one of the lycan attacks, and I’m not ruling out a surprise reveal of the damn thing STILL being stapled on) A return of the stuff we saw in the second demo! (Everyone and everything still died in a terrible horrible fire) Ethan running a surprise lycan death course after being captured by Dirty Lycan Cowboy Magneto! (his name is actually Heisenberg, but considering he can control metal and whatnot – seriously, HOW ARE WE GOING TO EXPLAIN ALL THIS AS FREAKING MUTANT VIRUSES?) BTTF references! (one unlucky NPC reminded Mike and Andy of Doc Brown, and some Marty McFly impersonations followed XD) Evil living puppets! (no SERIOUSLY – yeah, just TRY to claim credit for that one, Umbrella) And so much more! The episode ended with Ethan finally making it inside Castle Dimitrescu (having bought some stuff off The Duke beforehand – including some free gun charms, which Mike found very distracting XD). Next time, a trip through the castle, and Jane joins the boys to ask Lady Dimitrescu to step on her. XD

C) Then, for the evening hours, we had more Finalley in Fallout 4 You Only Live Once! Another stressful episode, this, with Jon, as usual, having a plan that goes to hell on contact with the enemy, the enemy being FO4’s love of fucking him over. Here’s the bullet points of what happened:

I. Finalley started her journey with a trip to Vault 81 to pick up a shipment of ballistic fiber, but said trip was delayed because Chaos Junction ended up pitting an Institute Courser against a Legendary Brotherhood Knight-Sergeant, and she couldn’t intervene on either’s side because she’s currently friendly with both factions. And standing in the rain watching the fight meant she got ill with parasites, meaning she now needs twice as much food when she eats, to Jon’s “delight.” On the plus side, he was able to sneak a peek inside the Knight’s inventory once the fight was over, and he didn’t have any gear that would suit Finalley, so no big loss from him not dying. Though it did mean that Finalley had to pick up food as well as fiber while she was in the Vault. (Also, Jon confirmed he’s NOT doing the main quest there by any means – Finalley does NOT need the mole rat disease!)

II. After getting her supplies (plus some extra concrete, because why not), Finalley stopped by Diamond City to grab some more meat off one of the vendors, then use the ballistic fiber to change over her chestplate from “padded” to “asbestos lining,” making her immune to being set on fire. This is apparently very important for her final destination. Hmmm.

III. Armor upgraded, Finalley stopped by her base to get some sleep, then summoned a Vertibird to take her over to the Abernathy Farm to start her actual journey, Jon figuring it would be safer than walking down the “perfectly safe roads” that have screwed him and Finalley over so often recently.

The vertibird proceeded to swing around in a super-wide arc and take them straight over a Super Mutant camp, then – nearer the end of the journey – right over a Gunner camp. Finalley was never actually hit, but Jon was pretty adamant that he wouldn’t be doing THAT again!

IV. Finalley hunted down some radstags by the Abernathy farm (also a ghoul that had scared Carla’s pack brahmin), then went over to the Ranger Cabin, killed the Bloatflies there, then picked up the Wasteland Survival Guide there – -5% from melee attacks! Never know when someone might get in range for a punch. . .

And then, when she went to leave the cabin, she spotted a vertibird that for some reason put Jon’s teeth on edge. She waited on the cabin’s front porch as the ‘bird fought something, lost, and crashed nearby – and when she went to check the corpses, found a Gunner conscript. Yup, Finalley JUST MISSED being shot at by another Gunner vertibird. Jon’s nerves are officially shot.

V. After swinging by Sanctuary to trade a bit with Carla and load up the one unnamed settler with wood and steel before sending them to Hangman’s Alley, Finalley continued on to her next destination – Skylanes Flight 1981, a crashed plane that can have all sorts of nonsense around it! Fortunately for her, the nonsense she encountered was Absalom, a sniper who hates everything that breathes, but went down pretty neatly to a sneak attack. (Too bad he’s apparently worth no XP!) She raided it for goodies and got the Astoundingly Awesome magazine she came for – +5% damage against Mirelurks, which – well, whenever she visits Far Harbor, that’ll be useful!

VI. Trip to next destination was interrupted by the sight of a Radscorpion – Jon decided, since he could only see the one, he’d try to take it out, only for him not to kill it in one hit and have to take it out when it popped up behind him. Fortunately he was on a rock, so it couldn’t pop up DIRECTLY behind him, but damn. Poor guy then started killing any and all wildlife just to have calm brackets with which to work with.

VII. Final destination of the episode was Medford Medical, a known Super Mutant stronghold. Jon’s initial plan was to sneak in, take out a couple of mutants in the front, get the Massachusetts Surgical Journal within, and then leave.

Finalley ended up clearing the entire place out because the magazine was behind an “Advanced” locked door, she has no lockpicking, and Jon wanted it enough to try and find the key. He did not find the key, but he did find a “Jackpot” DIA cache he said he’d pick up for the Railroad; two Legendary Super Mutant Enforcers (one only had a Hunter’s Combat Armor Right Leg, which Jon wasn’t interested in; the other had an Unyielding Synth Left Leg, which Jon was VERY interested in); a level-up, which he used to max out “Adamantium Skeleton” and remove all limb damage; and a fuck-ton of stress, including the usual “Jon is startled by an enemy and starts swearing out of terror” we see in these series of his. XD And to add salt into the wound?

A bunch of the comments say that he could have grabbed the magazine through the broken window in front of the office where it’s locked away.

Jon, I think you’re going to need more than a cup of tea after you read those. XD Ooooh boy. . .maybe next week we’ll finally learn where he’s going and what he needs to keep Finalley alive in the Gauntlet!

3. Play Alice: Madness Returns and get a little farther through the Dollhouse: Check! Got about an hour’s playtime today, which got me through the rest of the first section of the Cellars (all the loopy “go round here and do this thing, then you can go back this way and do this other thing – mind the spikes and the scissors!”) and back into the colorful version of this hellish landscape. I’d say I’m a little more than halfway through the level now? Which isn’t bad, all things considered. . . I’ve also collected all the bottles, and I’m up to three out of four Radula Rooms, having just finished the “survive the passage of time” one to get the checkpoint I ended on. There’s about a month to go before we hit the anniversary – I’m thinking finish the Dollhouse by the end of May, then maybe see about going back to the Deluded Depths the first weekend of June and find where I left that one missing snout? From what I’ve read, it won’t totally wipe my progress – I’d just have to do the very last section of the Dollhouse again, I think, which – reasonable.

4. Either write some more on the hypno-snippets or draft out some more tumblr posts: Okay, technically I did neither, but I did something adjacent to the first, so I’m calling it a check. My writing for today actually revolved around making a “notes document” (a general outline of the verse, timeline, list of stories, random scenes that serve as rough drafts for stories, stuff like that; I believe I’ve mentioned in the past the ones I have for Forgotten Vows and Secundus) for one of my self-indulgent hypnokink universes that might become more of a thing in the latter half of 2021. Because I’ve been having a rougher and rougher time of it mentally as this damn pandemic has rolled on, and I want to do stuff that makes me happy, damn it. It’s “adjacent” to my Hypno-Snippets because I’ve actually already written three full stories for this verse in the past (none posted), so it’s already its own thing. I just decided recently to make it a “proper” verse and organize what I already know about it – like getting down some of the background, the timeline, all of that. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s something else to come back to on Sundays now!

5. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike today, and back with “Nuka-World Level One Survival!” Caught up with Minnie and the Hubologists as they continued battling their way through the junkyard – after losing the Nukatron that was firing at Minnie, she led the charge down through the tunnels, where she faced off against a bunch of rads and some insects – including two Legendary Small Soldier Ants right in a row! The first one gave her a Powerful Rolling Pin (extra damage. . .on a rolling pin), but the second actually yielded a decent piece of Raider armor in the form of a left arm piece that upped her strength and endurance. Jon happily swapped out Minnie’s Ghoul Slayer’s Leather Left for that, then ran back through the Hubologists to make a save, because –

Yeah. A very tough Sentry bot was on the other side of the tunnel, and Jon knew what was coming – death! And lots of it! Though this was mostly bad luck as opposed to having too much trouble with the Sentry Bot – with drugs and sneak attacks, Minnie could get some good hits in! Hell, she killed the thing on her first attempt with her bat – the only trouble there was, she was too close to the resultant explosion to survive. Subsequent attempts had her leap in while the Hubologists peppered it with laser fire, then try to retreat – this had mixed success, mostly because of the Hubologists themselves. MOST of them are coded as either “essential” or “protected,” meaning they can’t die to just any old enemy (there’s one exception, Tula – we know this because she died multiple times from taking rockets to the limbs), but they CAN go into an injured “downed” state, much like regular companions. The first time this happened, Dara Hubbell (the leader) wouldn’t get up from her “downed” state because there were still enemies around – leading Minnie to slide off the side of a junk pile while searching out enemies (and taking potshots at mole rats), before running into a Nuka-tron and getting exploded. The second time, it was Dara’s “faithful” who got downed – one was okay, but the others were stuck sitting in the garbage. And Minnie couldn’t proceed in the quest until they got up so Dara could give them a speech. Fortunately, going back to the warehouse and taking a nap sorted THAT issue out –

Er, mostly. Two of the downed people teleported up to the UFO ride that they were reclaiming still in their downed state – the third ended up in another fight where Minnie couldn’t see them, so she had to wait out their battle, while trying to figure out where the hell it even was. Eventually, though, everyone made it up to the UFO, Dara gave her speech, and Minnie got her prize – Hub’s Alien Blaster, a “lucky” version of the alien weapon! Normally Jon doesn’t much care for this weapon, as it tends to be underpowered by the time you get it, but for low-level Minnie, he thought its ability to deal double damage on a crit might be useful in a pinch!

He then proceeded to possibly screw himself over by vindictively slotting FOUR fusion cores into the ride’s power and killing the Hubologists by making their heads explode from the speed. I say “possibly” because I know that Dara will give you ammo for the Blaster if you complete the quest with them alive – I’m not sure you can loot it from her corpse. And I don’t know if she gives any ammo with the initial gun. . . Jon didn’t seem worried about it, though. He was much more interested in her plasma gun anyway, which still had decent damage for Minnie’s low level. *shrug* Whatever makes him happy!

And with that, we finished off Episode 13! Next time, Minnie’s trying the World of Refreshment again! With as few caps as possible to boost her strength, lots of drugs to boost hers damage, and lots of purified water to take care of her thirst from the drugs. That should be interesting. XD

So yeah -- kind of a busy, somewhat squeezed day! I totally blame this on the notes document taking up most of the morning, then the visit from my aunt and uncle throwing off my afternoon a bit. But I got most of what I wanted to get done, done, and that's the important thing! And once I get past this upcoming work week, I'll have a three-day weekend to catch up on stuff as necessary again. :)

But first, gotta answer my DW comment, then head to bed. *deep sigh* Stupid capitalism. Night all!
