Hot, Distracted Saturday
Jun. 5th, 2021 11:26 pmYeah, according to the temperature widget in the living room, we hit the low 90s here today. Hot enough that the air conditioners were brought up from the basement so we could be sure of having appropriately cool rooms to sleep in tonight. Very grateful for mine just at the moment, that's for sure! And I'll keep being grateful for the next couple of days. . .
Anyway, I wasn't quite as productive as I was hoping this Saturday -- partially blaming that on the heat, partially blaming that on getting hooked on TV Tropes again this morning. But I did accomplish a few things:
1. Work some more on the hypnokink verse notes document: Eh, partial check – I did some review, cleaned up the magic section a bit, but didn’t really add anything new to it beyond a comment or two. Still struggling with what Victor’s minor abilities should be. . .and the name of the AU. I really need to find some inspiration for that!
2. See about watching the OXBox and OXtra in my Watch Later and keep current with YouTube subs: I don’t like that having to push my OXBox and OXtra videos back a day is becoming a trend with the weekend to-do lists. *grumbles* But I mostly checked this one off –
A) As per usual, started with a video off-the-list pre-Sims – Plumbella going through the “bugs, limitations, and loopholes” of Dream Home Decorator! Stuff like the lighting in a house changing the color swatches on the new sectionals so drastically depending on the placement that it can look like three different swatches on the same couch. Or just using your client’s home as your own during a gig instead of actually renovating. Or stealing people’s items via dropping them in YOUR household inventory (something we kind of saw with James earlier). Or – and this is a fairly big one – getting asked to make a new level or room AND NOT BEING ALLOWED TO BECAUSE THE GAME WON’T LET YOU EDIT ANY LEVEL BUT THE ONE FOR THE GIG. WHICH DOESN’T EXIST. *facepalm* This is why I’m holding off on buying this one, folks! I like the idea of it, but damn does it seem to need a patch or two.
B) Then, this evening, realizing I probably wasn’t going to have time to do watch all the OX-videos along with my YouTube Subs in my “Alloted YouTube Content Hours” (patent pending), I decided to grab the shorter of the two lists videos – “7 Mindblowing Sonic The Hedgehog Facts to Share at Your Next Dinner Party!” Sponsored by the upcoming Sonic Colors Ultimate game and in honor of Sonic’s 30th anniversary (yes, REALLY), the list covered such fun facts as Sonic’s first appearance in a SEGA game actually being Rad Mobile (a cross-country racer) as a dangling rear-view-mirror ornament; Sonic’s actual name apparently being “Sonny” and his hometown being in Nebraska according to internal SEGA documents about his origin; and the Sonic Adventures game being some of the first to have free DLC, thanks to its console having limited Internet access (seasonal updates for Halloween and Christmas, natch). Also debunked the famous story that “Mr. Needlemouse” was Sonic’s in-production name – apparently that was a translation error (the word for “hedgehog” in Japanese apparently is made up of the words for “needle” and “mouse”). Good stuff, even as it does make me feel freaking old.
C) Over in the Subs, we had a surprise appearance from Fun With Shorts – “Forest of Death!” It’s another horrible Lone Ranger and Tonto cartoon, yaaaaay~ XD Or rather, a Tonto cartoon, as apparently the Lone Ranger couldn’t be bothered to appear in this one. A shame – it featured an evil botanist throwing a bunch of killer plants at Tonto! Also an army of guys disguised as walking tree stumps, because it’s THAT kind of show. XD Ah, I love these stupid cartoons, they’re so fucking ridiculous. XD
D) Then it was onto Call Me Kevin reacting again to TLC’s My Strange Addiction – a lady with a thing for consuming AIR FRESHENER. O.o Yes, genuinely – she was spraying it directly from the can into her mouth. (She also enjoyed it over ice!) And she was trying to get her fiance into it – fortunately, she knew enough not to encourage her kids. She seemed like a nice lady otherwise – apparently it helped her cope with her mother’s death? And according to the comments a doctor finally convinced her to give up the habit, so yay there. Just – how weird. Which I know is the POINT, but – yeah. Kevin found it all baffling too, though he was very sympathetic toward the woman at the end. He really ends up feeling for the people in these videos! You wouldn’t expect it from such a dedicated Sims-killer. XD
E) And finally we wrapped up with GrayStillPlays and more Happy Wheels! Featuring such courses as the ride through Florida – filled with homing mines (poor Gray suffered mightily with this one – and then discovered the “alternate win” was full of rambling by that one guy again); a death course that starts on a pair of boobs/testicles, proceeds through a shit-ton of harpoons and falling ceilings of spikes, and ends with more exploding things (Gray was reduced to incoherence by the end); a couple of hard rope swings (plus one easy one, for practice); the longest glass break he’s had to do yet (smashy smashy), and the “everything run,” which includes watermelons, bottles, toilets, vans, and harpoons at the end (that one took a few a tries). Plus it was sponsored by a mobile game, so we got to watch Gray put a war spear through a tablet! :D Prime Saturday evening content.
3. Play Sims 4 and get through in-game Sunday with Emmett, Nikal, and Julia: Check! It turned out to be both the start of Spring and New Skill Day in-game – which is good, as it led to a LOT of skilling! Emmett advanced in Painting and Fitness; Nikal got a few more points in parenting; and little Julia got a few points in Thinking, Movement, and Potty skill – she’s actually already potty trained from just one go! :) And Einstein, while he technically didn’t learn any skills, did learn how to lie down. :) Nikal ALSO leveled up to being an Adept Spellcaster by making some potions – I gave her the “Blender Arm” and “Frugal Combination” perks since her current goal is to become a hell of an alchemist. Emmett, by sad contrast, managed to pick up the Curse of Uncontrollable Charge, so he’s kinda stuck not doing much magic until I can get to the Magic Realm and get that cured. Whoops. But yeah, other than that, pretty solid day for the family! :) Planning on following Nikal to work next time – she’s got a resolution to get promoted, and I think I can manage that for her. :)
4. Get in a workout: Check! Another 25 on the bike, another mod video, this one from Pleasant Sims. And look at this, she didn’t mention the UI Cheat or MC Command Center! She did mention Wonderful Whims, though. :p Along with Simulation Lag Fix and Simulation Unclogger (for when Sims get stuck because the coding doesn’t always deal with Sims doing multiple actions well – I’ve never had this to a horrible extent in my game, buuut I have had Sims just stand around for ages because reasons), Woohoo Wellness & Pregnancy Overhaul (adds Sims’ preferences toward children – whether they want them or not – a period system, WTDs, stuff like that), Bienchen’s Whim Overhaul (which actually adds whims for later expansion packs as well as adjusting which ones come up – have I mentioned that it was discovered later expansions have no whims at all?), a banking system, an overhaul of the death system. . .I’m not interested in all of these, but the whim overhaul might be nice. Like I said, I need to make a list of stuff I’m planning on grabbing for future saves.
Additionally:
-->Well, we didn’t end up babysitting the dog – the place that my aunt and uncle were going to go closes at 12:30 on Saturdays, as it transpires – but they did come over, so we ended up spending about an hour hanging out outside together, watching him demonstrate his tricks and trying to keep him from randomly eating grass. XD He’s a nice dog, he just needs to get over this “eats EVERYTHING” thing!
-->We did get out and do the beanbag game today – and ooof, I did not have a good game. 2-2-2-3-3 was my score – though, thankfully, Dad didn’t totally sweep us, as Mom managed to take the last game from him with a good throw. Though he DID get the elusive 12-point score (all four beanbags in the holes – or ONE hole in this instance, as he’d kind of piled them all up on it) in the second game to go from 5 to 17 immediately, so good for him! The fourth game, though. . .woof. We had one of those rounds where at every point, one of us was tied with someone else – first me and Dad, then Dad and Mom – and it was ROUGH. There’s nothing more frustrating than people tying on what should be the last throw and the game dragging on for ages! Especially on a super-hot day like today. . .
-->And as an update regarding the accident I was in on Thursday, glad to say my neck is feeling pretty much back to normal. :) Been using one of my Mom's old neck pillows (back from when she had her eye surgery a few years ago) and I think it did help. :)
So yeah -- not a bad Saturday, but I wish I could have watched a few more of my videos, or done more with my new AU. Ah well. . .let's set up the to-do list for tomorrow before I get sucked into reading about Sims 4 mods again --
1. Work some more on the hypnokink verse notes document
2. Clear out my Watch Later and watch Jon's latest Fallout 4 YOLO episode; try to keep up with YouTube Subs if possible
3. Take a moment to find that missing snout in the Deluded Depths in Alice: Madness Returns
4. Get in a workout
5. OPTIONAL: Work on Victor Luvs Alice queue updates on tumblr
This feels reasonable! Especially if I can get myself going a little earlier in the day tomorrow. . .we'll see! For now, I have stuff to answer (thread over on tumblr, and of course comments over here), and eventually I will have to go to bed. Night all!
