Late and Long Saturday
Aug. 28th, 2021 11:50 pmAnd also COOL -- I've got my windows open again as the humidity and heat dropped off SHARPLY today. I'm in favor, I was sick of the AC being needed to sleep comfortably. Though apparently we're due another heat spike on Monday. . .I guess that makes sense, we're in the final days of summer, with Labor Day weekend next week. We're due some more weird ups and downs when it comes to weather.
Anyway -- I have been fairly busy with to-do list items today, so let me update you on all of that:
1.Write some more on "Learn To Love Again" OR work some more on my Fallout 4 Sims Challenge: Check! Spent some time here and there on the challenge (also on updating a couple of things from my Vampire one). It’s coming together! I think I’ve figured out the basics, and how one “wins” the challenge and everything – I’ve just got to refine it and make sure everything hangs together nicely. Though I am second-guessing my choice of location – I chose Brindleton Bay for the world because it’s New England-themed, and Fallout 4 is set in Massachusetts and Maine. (Plus whatever indeterminate locale Nuka-World is in.) But for sheer map size and places to go, would Windenburg be better? I dunno. . .something to ask people, perhaps.
2. Watch the three videos in my Watch Later and do my best to keep up with YouTube Subs: Check, though I wasn’t able to fully keep up with the Subs – mostly because the latest Wyrd Sisters Podcast dropped, and I wasn’t able to listen to that AND watch the long video in my Watch Later! I’m hoping I can get that one tomorrow now that the old WL is emptied out again, but for today –
A) Started early with Plumbella’s latest: “each room is a different style shows that styles STILL suck” – another crack at that building challenge where you list all the “styles” of build/buy available in the game and have to randomly choose one for each room in the thing you’re building. Outside was “Garden” – no door, one window, no wallpaper or flooring, but lots and lots of ivy and wisteria to hide those blank walls, and a gate to serve as a “door.” Bedroom was “Suburban Contemporary” – cute bed and bookshelf, but still no wallpaper or flooring! Though she did make a nice built-in shelving unit for the back of the bed. Living room area was “Midcentury,” which was much easier as Sims 4 LOVES that style – couches, coffee table, record-player stereo (no TV though!), and a WALLPAPER. Just the one, though, and no flooring. Kitchen was “French Country,” which – Plumbella wasn’t happy at first, but she quickly changed her tune when it turned out this included a good portion of Cottage Living’s stuff, including a full kitchen set with some decorations, wallpaper, AND flooring! Little courtyard area outside was “Storybook,” which ALSO had wallpaper and flooring, amazing! Plus some chairs, decorations, and even an outdoor fireplace, w000. And then, hilariously, the bathroom ended up with “Patio.” So Plumbella had to whack together a “shower” out of a wall decoration and a shrunken hot tub, and a “toilet” out of two chairs and a candle. XD Though it did get floor, sooo. . . Not exactly the most usable house, but she did what she could with what she had! And the outside garden did look nice, sooo. . .
B) Then it was over to The English Simmer to watch her play SimsGuessr and talk about how cool she thinks James Turner is. XD Amazingly, she got one of the same pictures I did – but where I completely fluffed up that location, she knew the lot immediately! Or, well, sort of – she got the wrong house in the end, but at least she got the right world and neighborhood! She did decently on the rest – though like me, she fluffed an Oasis Springs location by picking the wrong neighborhood. 9,900 for her first round score, poor thing. But then she switched to the Grayscale challenge mode and – well. Somehow managed to do LOADS better, getting TWO perfect scores! And getting two locations that I got as well, though one of them she kinda fluffed (didn’t realize she was on the OTHER side of the gated community in Oasis Springs). Still, ended up with a final score of 14,789, which is a major improvement! And that’s with only realizing she could ZOOM IN on the minimap of each neighborhood on the third one of the grayscale challenge. XD Good times!
C) After my own Simming (below), I checked in with James himself to catch up on the latest Cottage Living LP episode! It’s official – Hazel has left Del Sol Valley to move in with Chaz and Trenton on the farm! Trenton did it rather romantically too – he took Hazel out on an official date to James’s old S.N.O.O.Z.E. restaurant (another Bigwallet-owned enterprise in the past, I believe), where they had a nice breakfast grilled cheese together before Trenton then took her around his and Chaz’s attempt at a store (which, as per a comment, will be pivoting toward selling canned goods, pies, and other stuff to be more of a village gift shop – though James, visiting at a later date to pick up the produce, discovered that EGGS sell for the correct amount. . .) to offer her not only life partnership, but business partnership. Hazel was up for that and joined the household with her dog – though, as to not flood the home with money, James then went back to her old place, set it as a retail lot, and had Hazel buy it back so she could “rent it out” in the background. :) But yeah, she’s happily set up with Trenton now as his girlfriend, and can remake this farm to her heart’s content, yay. :p
As for the rest of the episode, well, there was of course all the farm chores to be done – Chaz himself has planted all the over-sized crops and has designated one specific patch to be the “big ones,” with daily fertilizing and encouragement and whatnot. Trenton, meanwhile, after cleaning up the store and selling all the produced, spent most of his time working on the “Nerd Brain” aspiration so he could do instant upgrades without parts, meaning James doesn’t have to constantly scour the errands of the Henford-on-Bagley residents to see who can give him some! After leveling up his Logic skill, the next step was to buy, build, and upgrade a rocket!
. . .rockets are bugged now! Yeah, James was able to buy the launch pad, but wasn’t able to click on it. (Glad I found this out before I bought one for Wheatley, who was looking at the same aspiration!) Fortunately, he had a work-around – the rocket in the old Britechester lot, where Bob’s robot (Miss Damenoir, or something like that, I can’t recall how to spell it) lives! Trenton came in, befriended the robot, James unlocked all the doors, and Trenton borrowed the roof rocket to explore space a few times, ending with a visit to Sixam itself to see his culture!
His culture is – well. The surrounding scenery is very pretty, but the lot itself is sad, and there weren’t even any aliens around – just regular townies in Santa gear. A disappointed James sent Trenton home, at least happy that the rocket portion of his aspiration was sorted. And after a bunch of bathroom upgrades, the only thing left is to raise that Logic skill! We’ll see if he manages it next time!
D) Then it was over to Call Me Kevin for Super WorldBox, a lovely little God game! You have a world, and you can adjust the land masses, populate them with various kinds of creatures – humans, orcs, elves, dwarves – let them build great civilizations, and then totally screw them over! Deliberately or accidentally, Kevin did both. XD Namely, there was a bomb dropped early on that split the humans’ continent in two; a few wars that lead to the middle part of the map basically being a constant center of pain and death; the creation of a walled-off island as a prison for a single human and his penguin that was later turned into the hellish ice domain of the snowmen; the destruction of one of the islands at the top so Kevin could write his name and start “Kevin Town” on the V; attempting to help various failing civilizations flourish, with no luck; deciding the elves had had it too easy and having them first start some wars, then deal with a zombie apocalypse, then finally suffer the wrath of CRABZILLA; and finally Kevin deciding the world could not be saved and destroying everything but six people still living in Kevin Town. XD Beautiful, chaotic misery – I told he should let Gray know about it.
E) Speaking of Gray(StillPlays), after dinner I watched his latest GTA V nonsense! This was a classic evil parkour board centered around using the car with the parachute in the hood to make increasingly ridiculous jumps from platform to platform to travel across the map and into the various tubes of LSD and patriotism. There was much bouncing, much Gray missing the bounce by that much, and much flying around while praying his parachute didn’t brush up against anything so it would go away. He actually did really well in the tubes part, flying through the fast majority of them without issue. And then he got stuck on a yeeter because he couldn’t find a checkpoint hidden nearby in a cave. The course ended with a pair of heavily-boosted leaps and a wall-ride up the patriotism tube. Gray sounded so proud of himself when he finally found the win. :P
F) And finally, to wrap things up, the Long Video I put in my Watch Later yesterday – “WE COMPLETE ENCARTA MINDMAZE! | Defeating the Hellish Trivia Maze from Microsoft Encarta!” This is an OXBox stream that’s almost two hours long, but I had to watch it because OH GOD THE NOSTALGIA. I used to play this game back when we had an old Compaq! With Windows 3.1! It’s like – talk about shit you NEVER expected to see in 2021! It was a pretty simple stream, in essence – just the gang working their way through the maze, up each level, earning points and trying to figure out the more esoteric questions and doing funny voices for the characters. XD Mike’s King voice was a particular treat (sounded like BRIAN BLESSED), as was Andy voicing the hated Jester character. There was also some discussion of the fact that this thing had something resembling a PLOT – namely, the reason you’re going through this maze answering general knowledge questions is that the castle that makes up the maze has been cursed by the wizard Zorlock, conspiring with the Duke, the King’s brother-in-law, to upset the stability of the kingdom and overthrow said king – though the comments of some of the characters make it sound like the King had it coming, as he proudly calls himself “King Miser The First” and hates paying for anything. The Duke openly says he has no land, which is genuinely weird in the time period this is set in. The player has been brought in by the sorceress from the distant time of 1995 to solve the futuristic “riddles” holding all the doors closed because nobody can figure them out. There’s also a couple of subplots of foreign travelers coming to the castle and getting stuck in the maze, the Duke versus his parrot, and a lady who wants to marry a servant, Joseph, and thinks the trick will be to convince the Queen to convince the King to knight him. XD They did reach the end eventually, exceeding the needed point total of 20,000 and getting a lovely little image of an astronomy tower, before getting a text screen of the King’s thanks (along with the Middle Eastern Man’s), before being booted out to the main screen – and with Mike’s “character” deleted! Damn, Encarta was not fooling around. . . “F” in the chat, Sir Mike – this was a nice, chill way to end a Saturday. :)
G) And then I remembered that my tumblr friend Squid had linked me to a video and ended up watching The Spiffing Brit run a marble race featuring marble versions of a bunch of his Patreon supporters over a hilariously huge and complicated track in the early access game Marble World. Call Me Kevin was also represented, along with a few other YouTubers, along with the entirety of Kent, Spiffing himself, his fiancee, and “people who like videos.” It was a wild and wooly race, with one person having to be disqualified because their marble “cheated” (aka bounced off something it wasn’t supposed to to land in the winning area early), but it was a lot of fun regardless. And hey, the winners got actual money because Spiff is both weird and nice like that. :p (And Call Me Kevin managed to finish the race, though he didn’t come close to winning – but he did better than RTGame, who got stuck along the track, sooo XD)
3. Play Sims 4 and follow Chell to the bakery for a day: Check! Had to wait for the game to patch first, but then I also needed to upgrade MC Command Center, so that worked out. Pretty good day for Chell, Wheatley, and Geeker trio – Wheatley did some more bathroom upgrades and got his Handiness skill up to level seven, while Chell had a very successful day at her bakery (selling all sorts of pies, cupcakes, cookies, and bread) and got her Baking skill up to level eight! Though, amusingly, I discovered that I’d accidentally set the music in her store to be her most-hated genre – Jazz. Look, it made sense BEFORE preferences. XD Replaced those speakers once they closed up for the day, then sent them home to play some chess, work out a bit, and do more cooking (Chell) and upgrading (Wheatley) before heading to bed. Discovered in the process that the pot rack Chell earned from her dinner party was apparently blocking access to the stove, so I had to move that, hmph. But still, got it sorted eventually. And Geeker, while out of focus as usual, got himself a nice promotion to APM King! Good times! :D And since Geekcon is tomorrow, I’m thinking of taking the trio there instead of doing more work stuff (with Wheatley, at least – Geeker’s shift starts as the festival ends, so he can go and do more good gaming at – wherever it is he works. ...Occurs to me this should have been a work-at-home career). Might as well let them have some fun this last week!
4. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike today, and back with Jon’s Original FO4 Playthrough! Got through about half of Episode 19 today, where Miss Jon – having secured the Castle for the Minutemen – decided it was time to do a couple of missions for the Brotherhood! Namely, heading over to Fort Strong and secure the mini-nukes there. She had a good time strafing the Behemoth from the sky and killing the Super Mutants both inside and out – even got some halfway decent Legendary gear from it for a change! (Namely, some armor pieces instead of useless melee weapons.) Sadly, the super-weapon the fort was testing pre-War was nowhere to be found to be looted, and she couldn’t persuade Paladin Danse (visiting because of plot) to tell her his tragic backstory regarding Super Mutants (namely, he had to kill a friend who was being turned into one back in the Capital Wasteland). And she wasn’t particularly impressed with his rant about how synths could cause Armageddon due to sheer numbers, saying it sounded like an excuse for preemptive genocide. (Explains why Grills never was a truly perfect Brotherhood soldier!)
Anyway, she successfully handed in that mission (happily taking the vertibird grenades from Maxson), and was FINALLY able to tell someone (namely, Kells) about Paladin Brandis to finish off “The Lost Patrol.” She got “Duty or Dishonor” from him (the mission regarding the stolen food from the supply depot), but I’m already pretty sure she’s never going to do it, as if I recall correctly, it’s not until his BOS run with Grills that Past!Jon did all the Brotherhood stuff. Instead, I left it off with her having just leveled up her lockpicking to Master level to start chasing some locked safes – and with Dogmeat having glitched himself off the side of the Prydwen. Ouchies. XD Ah well, I mean, we already had Kells doing a piggyback ride on an NPC using the machinery he was standing in front of while having a serious discussion with Miss Jon, soooo. . .
Whew! Lotta videos today, along with other stuff. . .but I'm glad I was able to get all of this done. Plus get some RP in over on Valice Multiverse. Which is still ongoing, so I'd best get back to that. . . Let's set up the list for tomorrow:
1. Write some more on "Learn To Love Again"
2. Keep up on YouTube Subs and watch Jon's FO4 YOLO episode
3. Play some more Bloodlines and finish up some more Downtown side missions
4. Get in a workout
5. Prep this week's Newcrest Adventures update
All reasonable, I think, especially since I cleared out the Watch Later today. Granted, I may have to plan around playing beanbags tomorrow. . .but then again, we were supposed to play TODAY, but my parents got caught up in a project to turn the closet next to our back door into a pantry, soooo. . . *shrug* We'll see. Night all!
