crossover_chick: Victor leaning over to look at a blue butterfly in a glass jar (CB: i has a happy thing)
Didn't start out great (with my mom on the phone to Lowe's regarding the cabinets -- apparently the cabinet people have until Monday evening to call us and schedule installation of our last couple of cabinets, and if not. . .well. Suing may happen), but things improved throughout the day, as the to-do list shows:

Work – Quick commute in this morning; extremely quiet day with me taking one credit card call, working on duplicates, putting on a few checks, and taking care of some returned mail; got to go home at 3 PM because they’d decided to let us out early; traffic home was – eh but not NEARLY as bad as it has been – I got home around 3:23 PM. Yeah, I will fucking take that for my Friday!

Beanbags – Yes, finally! Weather was nice enough, and everybody was home in time for three rounds at five. :) Dad and Mom ended up trading off wins and losses while I had a fully mid-range day – final scores were me 2-2-2; Dad W-3-W; Mom 3-W-3. *shrug* Would have preferred to win one, but I’ll take a streak of second over a streak of losses!

To-Do List

1. Get in a workout: Check – one final night on the bike this week, finishing off the Oxventure Orbpocalypse episode “Escaped Crusaders!” Corazon was able to successfully smash the panicking final guard from the boat in the face with the hand-guard of his rapier, busting a few teeth and leaving him moaning on the ground. As Johnny put it, no one was dead, dying, or actually unconscious, but none of them were interested in escalating the situation. XD Dob, Egbert, and Merilwen (having been discussing “Phase 4” of Dob’s nonexistent plan) saw that the coast was clear – Dob and Merilwen started booking it toward the boat itself with Prudence, while Egbert joined Corazon in looking for useful stuff in the wreckage of the airship. Corazon rolled well and discovered one of the airship propellers with an attached motor was actually still mostly intact – hook it up to a heat source and they could use it as an outboard motor for the boat! Egbert rolled not so well and found a melted bell that made a cool noise. XD In fact, it kind of sounded like a cow bell, meaning he had a new item to give praise to his cow god with! Fortunately for everyone else, while said god was approving, they also knew what Egbert was like and told him only to ring it after his greatest victories so he didn’t annoy everyone on the boat.

And so the gang piled onto the boat, with Dob shoving them out into the water while simultaneously casting Sleep on the guards to stop them raising any alarm until they were under way. Turns out the boat was made for fairly long journeys around the island and had provisions and everything for the adventurers – including a large pot of stew, which is where they found Seal Gaiman. XD Johnny montaged them motoring along with the help of the motor and the included little wood stove, working their way over to where Geth’s biggest river drained into the ocean and then fighting the current to work their way into the thick jungles of the Tangle. During the trip, Prudence was able to figure out the “replay” function of the orb, so she and Corazon were able to figure out where they were relative to their destination. Fortunately, around the time that it became impractical to keep using the boat (thanks to roots dipping into the water and the current and whatnot), Corazon realized they were like half a day’s hike from the Court of the Thief Queen, and thus parked the boat by the shore. A poor roll was saved enough by his bonuses that he didn’t wreck the boat, but the motor they attached will unfortunately never run the same again. Damn. But at least they still have some form of transport in case they need a quick getaway!

And so the gang pressed on into the jungle! Thanks to poor Constitution checks, the heat and humidity quickly got to Merilwen and Corazon, with Merilwen basically wilting and Corazon worrying so much about illness he was starting to feel the symptoms (I hear you bud – also, Andy fluffed out his wig VERY amusingly to represent Corazon’s hair going frizzy in the heat); Dob, Egbert, and Prudence meanwhile were doing just fine (Egbert unable to be bothered by mosquitoes thanks to his scaly skin; Dob stinking too much for any bug to get close to; and Prudence – well, the first and only mosquito to bite her abruptly caught on fire, so. . .) Fortunately it wasn’t too long before they reached the Court of the Thief Queen (complete with a cinematic reveal from behind a big leaf) – which, as per the orb’s hologram, was actually quite well populated! There were houses, offices, even a pub, the Twisted Harpoon, with various roguish types lounging about chatting in Thieves’ Cant. Corazon asked one of them what was going on, and got welcomed to the Court – apparently there is genuinely a Thief Queen, who has set up here and has people attend her and whatnot. The rogues here pay regular tithes for run of the place – there was even a tithing office (across from the conditioner office). Corazon relayed this to the others, and they went to the tithe office to get that out of the way. The tithe officer explained that, since it was their first time, rather than the standard “twenty percent of whatever you’ve stolen since your last visit” (up to a certain threshold), it would just be ten gold pieces each.

Corazon promptly began claiming the others as his dependents; Egbert said the entire last year was a loss for him and had to be written off; and Dob said that he hoarded all of his assets off-shore (which, given his penchant for chucking money in a lake, isn’t wrong). And they all blew their Charisma rolls out of the water, meaning that only Prudence and Merilwen had to pay. XD Prudence just handed over the money (she’s apparently as diligent about her taxes as she is unwilling to participate in insurance fraud), while Merilwen took a few gold pieces out of the boys’ cut of the treasure to pay hers. XD The gang began discussing how to get an audience with the Thief Queen (who apparently only sees rogues who do particularly spectacular things) while buying conditioner – while Dob doing a backflip came up, Dob pointed out that stealing from her would be pretty spectacular. And then Merilwen reminded everyone that they were planning on stealing from her ANYWAY, so. . . XD Corazon essentially said it was a win-win – either they got the cone in the treasury and got away, or got caught but the Thief Queen was so impressed that she let them keep it. They left the conditioner office still discussing –

Only to find themselves surrounded by armed guards with spears. Corazon promptly claimed he’d paid for all his conditioner – right before two bottles fell out of his sleeves. XD The guards said they didn’t care about the stealing – why would they? – but they were wanted by the Thief Queen! So this is worrying but also what they wanted, good. :p Next week, we start Episode 4, “Wrangle in the Tangle!”

Oh, and it’s worth noting that I did watch two “Petey Plays It” videos on Sims 4 this week too, whenever the Oxventure stuff ended early – one on the fabrication skill (where to get the necessary bits and pieces, what you can make, how to get more recipes) and one on specter gifts and Paranormal Investigator rewards (what they do and what they look like). Simple, but amusing, and good info for my Valicer trio in their haunted, eco-friendly house!

2. Continue writing “As Long As You Love Me”: Check (and yes, another double shot of this since I finished the latest LB:DQ chapter yesterday)! Got this done early with the lovely extra bit of free time gifted to me – and finished up the “Back on Track” segment rewrite, with Victor and Alice reuniting! Alice was initially like “hang on, you shouldn’t be here, you have to leave,” but Victor brought her round, both with telling her how the universe facilitated his return to her and how painful it was for him to leave her. And, finally, kisses have happened and they’ve said they love each other. :) Almost time to wrap this thing up – got one more snippet to rewrite. . .

3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check! :D With my early release, I could get some other stuff done earlier (like my writing, above), and have JUST enough time to finally fit in that one video from Kevin I couldn’t get to earlier, plus the other two uploads of the day (though I ended up watching Gray late anyway, because I had to rewash the ice cream scoop before I could use it, meaning I had to wait for Dad to get out of the bathroom first *sigh*). Plus I even got in a bonus –

A) Snuck in the latest Fun With Shorts before beanbags – “The Garbage Explosion,” Part 2! The second half of a 52-year-old short regarding garbage and better ways of dealing with it. Like burning it in super-hot fires (toxic fumes? We’re not worried about THAT yet), or creating water-soluble glass (a problem for bottles meant to hold liquid? I don’t see it), or melting down film stock for reclaimed silver (the only way Morbius will ever break even)! But it had a good message about trying to crack down on garbage and ruining the earth. . .a shame Josh’s quips pointed out that we haven’t come very far in the half-century since this film was made! *shakehead*

B) Next up, between beanbags and workout, was a video recommended to me by my friend Nebby on tumblr: “Corpse Bride Characters: Good to Evil ⚰️” by Brad of WickedBinge! Ranking the characters based on how good they were and how much they grew over the movie. Our three heroes took the top Good spots (Emily, Victor, Victoria, in that order – Emily and Victor got higher because while they’re less “pure” than Victoria started out as, Brad felt they grew more over the course of the movie), while the bottom three evil spots were taken by Lord and Lady Everglot, Nell Van Dort, and Barkis Bittern, again in that order (the Everglots got slightly higher than Nell by virtue of “they’re forcing Victoria’s marriage to whoever’s available because the alternative is starving” – he had NO sympathy for Nell just wanting status and saying no corpse would want Victor, though, which is the entirely correct opinion. If you’re wondering what happened to William, he got stuffed into the “Grey” section because he’s has such a small role and he mostly just enables Nell). It was a good ranking list that showed a pretty good understanding of the characters – my only complaint was Bonejangles making the “Bad” section, but as it turned out there was a better reason for that than Nebby told me (she focused on Brad thinking “Remains of the Day” might have been insensitive to Emily, but he says in the video that she seems okay with it, sooo. . .his actual reason is Bonejangles seems a little too into scaring people when the dead arrive, and that’s actually something I have him feeling guilty about in my Forgotten Vows Verse (thinking he helped ruin Victor’s life), so – can’t argue!). Still would have stuck him in “Grey” with all the other people just very good at the jobs, though. :p

C) And then, this evening, it was finally time for the hour-long Call Me Kevin video from Tuesday: “GTA San Andreas was ahead of its time!” I wasn’t sure what this was about, initially – thought it was an LP like most of his other super-long videos. And it was in part, but it was of a specific part of the game – the San Fierro section, where you get caught up in gang wars, help and then murder a specific pimp, and then become a friend of the local Tong population. Also you can buy a model airplane shop and get involved with the clerk’s rivalry with a mail-order business, which I guess also sells model planes. Also you apparently kill one of your friends during one of the missions, except CJ barely mentions him until it’s plot-important. I’m not going to tell you about every little mission in this part of the game – there was just too much going on for that – but I will tell you that Kevin spent most of it doing his best to run over all his enemies with his car no matter what the mission said; spent FAR too long trying to shoot down a helicopter with an RPG because he got a checkpoint at a bad spot (he had really low health and two wanted stars); got himself banned from every fast food place in the city because he overindulged on pizza and vomited in one of the shops; spent a lot of time driving along train lines and somehow did not get killed (though he did use the trains to kill a rival gang); learned how to drive for illegal street races and actually did quite well on it (especially sharp turns and barrel rolls over a bunch of other cars); picked up a bunch of fun tattoos for CJ to show off while he was running around in his underwear; and saved all the model plane missions to the end because he remembered how much he LOATHED them when he first played (fortunately he was playing the Definitive Edition, and one of the few things it does right is making those missions easier). :p Just a whole hour of good chaotic Kevin fun – can’t go wrong with that! (Especially the “Kevin slowly goes mad trying to shoot down this helicopter” section. XD)

D) And after that, to clear out the Subs in full, we had GrayStillPlays and “When you get wanted level 1000 in GTA 5!” Yes, Gray was back with more Alex fun, this time in a board that had him running cross country across the Los Santos map while he gained more and more wanted stars. . .but the ALEX version of wanted stars, meaning – well. He started with one star on foot, where the locals just wanted to punch him and the police shoot him. At the first checkpoint, he went up to three and got a cool bike with spikes and weapons, where the police got more aggressive thanks to a bounty and the news helicopter started following him! After doing some cool ramps across roadblocks, he hit the second checkpoint, got five wanted stars, and upgraded to an armored car with mortars and miniguns – which he very much needed because suddenly Jeeps full of armed pedestrians were just falling from the sky to torment him! And the car, while armored, was very much NOT invincible. After burning to death a couple of times, he finally got to the THIRD checkpoint and ten wanted stars – which is when the juggernauts with miniguns started spawning in on the regular, one of them RIGHT AT THE CHECKPOINT. Gray died SO MANY TIMES just trying to get into his little off-road vehicle so he could make it up one of the mountains to the fourth checkpoint. He eventually made it, though, at which point he got a camouflage SUV, one hundred wanted stars, and TANKS after him. Fortunately they spent most of their time tumbling down the hillsides Gray was speeding over (trying desperately to avoid cows) and blowing themselves up. . .though the police with their heavy weapons still gave Gray a really bad time. XD He raced his way to the prison and fought his way in to the fifth checkpoint, which gave him a super-colorful mini-tank, one thousand wanted stars, and orbital bombardments from the sky to join in everything else attacking him. And then he had to get to the top of what I believe was Mount Chillead, dodging the tanks and cop cars tumbling down the mountain side all the way there. XD And even THEN he wasn’t actually finished – turns out the top of the mountain, atop the tram line, was just another checkpoint – in order to get the win, he had to skydive off the mountain and survive long enough to pass the finish line in the tram station at the bottom. Which he JUST BARELY DID. Wooof – there was SOO much suffering in this video, and it was AMAZING. XD Alex really knows how to make this game sit up and bark!

4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – easy one tonight, with just two ask replies on Valice Multiverse.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with that. (Though I'll be happier once all the cabinets and shit are installed and we have a proper kitchen sink again. . .) And now it's time to start the long weekend proper, so let's get some Saturday to-dos going:

1. Work on my Blades in the Dark Valicer stuff

2. Keep up with YouTube Subs, start clearing out the Watch Later

3. Play Sims 4 and do Smiler's graduation with a celebratory kegger afterward

4. Work on tumblr drafts

Seems reasonable to me! And now it's time to wrap up for the night -- night all!
