Okay Friday
May. 8th, 2026 11:50 pmIt was nothing special, but it was also nothing too irritating, as hopefully the write-up will prove:
Work – Was another fairly quiet day at work, though I did have a bit more to do than I did the last couple of days:
A) Most of the morning was dedicated to doing the GL, as our processors had uploaded a bunch of stuff, and our credit card people had similarly put up a few batches, so all of that had to be matched to the reconciliation reports and tallied out and whatnot
B) Then I had a QC file for the latest Appeal pledge billing, which involved double-checking some numbers via looking up which donors were due for a billing and which weren’t
C) Then I had a QC file for the latest CAPITAL CAMPAIGN pledge billing, which was the same process as the above
D) During all that, I occasionally stopped to help my coworker look up some stuff (as she was checking duplicate gifts and such for the next thank-you file to go out)
E) And I ended the day with a few reversals to apply some payments to pledges
Yeah – lot more to keep me busy today, that’s for sure! Though no adding ID numbers to pledge card scans – I talked about it with my boss today, and she e-mailed the processing company, and they got back to her that they intended for their own team members to do all the matching from now on. The most I or my coworker can do is hit the “help” button to get a team member to maybe look at it a bit sooner. *grumble* Nothing I can do about it, but still – it annoys me. Ah well – at least I don’t have to think about it for a few days!
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – my final night on the bike this week was very OXBox-themed, featuring –
A) The end of “Let's Play Resident Evil Requiem: RPD! TERRIFYING CHILDREN! AN OLD FRENEMY RETURNS! Episode 7!” The final nine-or-so minutes of which covered:
I. Leon killing a few zombies (including one of those annoying “still armed with a machine gun so they spray bullets everywhere periodically” BSAA ones) and looting the blocked-off passage under the police station while Andy apologized for being a loot goblin (Jane and Mike were like “no, loot away, this is that kind of game”) and Jane wondered if Elpis was in fact a real word and not just a made-up one (Andy confirmed it was, it was the Greek word for “hope” – which certainly put a new spin on Alyssa calling Grace her “only hope” back in the flashback sequence where she died). Very important activities, those!
II. Leon emerging back onto the street and entering Gunshop Kendo (which really didn’t have anything in it because, as per Andy, it was thoroughly looted, by him, in other Resident Evil games), then heading through the little courtyard at the back to the separate storage room –
Where he found a little skeleton on the floor. Prompting a series of flashbacks to meeting Kendo and his slowly-zombifying daughter back in Resident Evil 2, and listening to the man nearly sob about what “those things outside” did to them...shortly before he took his little girl back into this very same storage room. :( It was a very emotional moment, culminating in Leon apologizing to the little girl’s remains before swearing “Never again…”
Which was then kind of undercut by Mike pointing out it would only be “Never Again” until the NEXT Resident Evil. And Andy picking up Kendo’s shotgun from the side shelves, because, well, you don’t leave a gun behind in these games. ^^; But still!
( And then – a boss fight! And a list video. And outtakes! )
2. Continue editing Chapter 5 of “The Van Dort Vacancy”: Check – got to it a little later than expected (combination of Workout Video Write-Up taking a bit and it being Game Night – Trivial Pursuit, Dad ended up winning), but I got to it, and ended up getting through a little over a page’s worth of edits. :) Covering –
A) Barnaby asking “what box?” in response to Smiler saying that if they could get “that box” open, they could get the locked vault door open, and Smiler explaining it was the box that Bumby’s ledger was in, the one that proved he was doing horrible things to children, and that he and Kasimir would probably see the story in Publick Occurrences soon, as Miss Wright had the ledger now. Cue a disgusted Kasimir being like “well, I wasn’t exactly tore up about him dying before, but I’m glad he’s dead now” –
And then clocking onto the fact that, if Smiler opened the box, these three were probably the ones who killed Bumby. Alice calmly confirmed it for him, explaining how they’d gotten an electroplasm bomb from the ghost who actually killed Barkis, and how she’d used it on Bumby the first chance she’d gotten – and how he’d REALLY had it coming, as apart from what he’d done to the children, he’d raped her sister and set the fire that killed her family. Poor Barnaby was actually lost for words for a moment, which does NOT happen!
B) Barnaby telling Alice that he was now moving her and her friends up a little closer to Zillah (the Hobbyhorses’ Cutter, played by Jane) in the list of “People Who Scare Me,” prompting an amused snort from Kasimir as he reminded Barnaby that Zillah was probably the nicest and most moral of the group (she explicitly goes into crime as a way to try and support her family, as per the first episode). Barnaby countered that she also had massive muscles that she knew how to use, noting that Kasimir must have heard the story of Zillah accidentally punching a man into a coma once at the back alley fight club she frequents – Kasimir blandly noted that the coma only lasted a day, and that the guy she punched, Punchliker, thought it was actually pretty funny (though his family was less understanding). Victor, rather stunned by this, commented that their crew sounded – interesting. XD This incident is a reference to what happened at the start of “The Lampblack Wedding,” when Jane accidentally overindulged while clearing Zillah’s stress at the start of the episode (she then proceeded to get the luckiest roll ever to avoid overindulging AGAIN when she cleared her single stress at the end).
C) Kasimir, amused by Victor’s expression after hearing about Zillah’s misadventures, agreeing that their crew was interesting and noting that they hadn’t even mentioned Lilith yet – the Tycherosi university girl who is the one you want if you want scary. He then asked if Victor had heard about the ghost that had shut down the new train yard they were building – Victor confirmed he had (mostly because his father had helped fund it and was absolutely furious when an eight-legged lizard ghost moved in), and Kasimir informed him that Lilith was the one who put it there. ...then qualified that, okay, technically, two other ghosts put it there, but Lilith was the one who captured those two ghosts and convinced them to “open up the rip in reality,” so…yeah. Victor was pretty stunned and admitted that he didn’t think he’d ever get to that level as a Whisper. XD This incident refers to the climax of “The Gut-Cutter Bargain,” where yes, the two ghosts Lilith had caught and befriended (they were both sane ghosts, just upset because they died in terrible industrial accidents which were covered up, meaning they were never collected by the Spirit Wardens to be given proper rest) ripped open a hole in the veil to release a basilisk ghost on the train yard she and Kasimir were sent to sabotage by the gang of child criminals they wanted to make a bargain with. Kasimir had a whole new level of respect for Lilith after THAT incident!
D) Smiler cutting in to tell Victor not to think so negatively, and that he had plenty of time to get as good as Lilith – Victor noted that Kasimir had said Lilith was a “university girl,” so she probably WAS about their age, but Smiler countered that people could go get a certificate at university later in life, and that there was the possibility that Lilith was a teacher, not a student (she’s actually a TA, as established in “Murder At Volisport Academy,” so close, Smiler!). They were then distracted from encouraging Victor by discovering the pick they were trying in the lock was too short – Kasimir stepped in to point out the correct size pick they should be using, and to tell them to LISTEN to what they were doing, as they should be able to hear when the pin got tapped in. Smiler thanked him for the tips and noted he probably did this a lot, with Kasimir confirming he’d been a criminal for most of his life and now considered himself a proper Spider (his actual playbook) – which was good, as his lot needed all the help they could get. :p Barnaby promptly tried to take the wind out of his sails by noting the last time he and Edvard did a score, he’d ended up covered in goat “refuse” – Kasimir pointed out that getting covered in shit was deliberate, and that it had paid off when they got a good deal of Coin from the reveal of what was happening to poor Bessie the goat (being injected with leviathan blood!). Barnaby then brought up the gondolier who came to pick him and Edvard up and who yelled their names for all to hear as they tried to escape – Kasimir admitted that was indeed just him hiring an idiot, but he hadn’t KNOWN the guy was an idiot at the time. XD And that was a reference to what Kasimir and Edvard got up to during “The Cab Con Caper,” which is the score whose name inspired the name of the story – I liked the alliteration. XD
And that’s where I left it for now! Next time, Barnaby shares some juicy insults he heard regarding Nell Van Dort, and Smiler finally gets the door open! And everyone gets to see just what it is the Van Dorts keep in their vault...
3. Watch something on YouTube: Check, if only because Gigs linked me to “Rocky is here to summon you to watch #ProjectHailMary - exclusively in cinemas 26 March” by SonyPictures India while telling me how she used a screenshot from the promo to determine how tall Rocky should be when compared to AL – it’s a cute little sequence with Ryan Gosling encouraging Rocky to tell people to go see Project Hail Mary, and Rocky struggling a little bit with human idioms in the process (“Buy a movie chair now!”). He also imitated some classic trailer voices and just bounced around adorably. :D Seriously, how can you not love Rocky the Eridian, he’s great.
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check – got something done on both my tumblrs, in fact –
Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) – Over here, I ended up straight-up reblogging three things this evening:
A) A post by miniaturize about how tumblr has implemented age verification for users in Australia and the UK, going “the concept of a site that doesn't even allow porn requiring age verification for mature content. you gotta give us your legal id or else we'll hide random posts that were incorrectly flagged from you” *sigh* Yeah, people are already getting angry about this, because it IS rather bullshit (much like tumblr’s “mature content” labels) – though one of the big problems is, said bullshit is enshrined in law in Australia and the UK, so...yeah. Multiple layers of nonsense going on here. *sigh* Very glad Dreamwidth will not be asking me for my ID anytime soon!
B) A post by sententiola featuring a video of noted naturalist David Attenborough trying to do a segment on the Greater Bird Of Paradise (which was originally described as having no feet)...only for the Greater Bird Of Paradise to be the noisiest motherfucker on the planet. As per the description below the video, Attenborough couldn’t get a word in edgewise! XD I reblogged this mostly because I’d heard it was his 100th birthday today, so I wanted to celebrate a bit somehow. :p
C) And a post by danydarkly of some absolutely GORGEOUS AMA/A:MR Alice fanart. Like, seriously, LOOK at that, it’s beautiful. :D I had to have it on my blog...especially since Dany ended up fondly reminiscing in the tags about her Valice days –
And how she was sort of tempted to redraw a couple of her old Valice pieces. Which, uh, yeah. I added in my own tags “hi, I’m still around, still shipping Valice, it’s now a OT3 called Valicer with my Smiler OC, that’s a whole thing, I still use one of your pictures as a background wallpaper on my computer.” ^^; So, uh, I guess we’ll see what, if anything, comes of that!
Valice Multiverse – And over here, I tossed that anon ask I couldn’t get to yesterday into the queue! Said anon ask went “*Sees the local gaol* Gay-Ole. What's a Gay-Ole?” as a play on the fact that you wouldn’t expect “gaol” to be pronounced “jail” – I had Forgotten Vows!Alice respond letting the anon know how to say it and explaining it was “where the police stuff anyone society doesn't want to see on the streets” – including actual criminals, the homeless, and mad women screaming at insects and trains. :p It felt appropriate, given she’s the one who actually ends up in a gaol!
Not too shabby – though you may notice that the one thing I didn’t do was properly finish up my Song Saturday post in Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler)’s queue. I’d intended to, but I ended up having a very busy night trying to answer comments and tumblr messages and RP with Squid, and – yeah. I decided I’d rather finish this write-up than try to force myself to complete the post. At least I got the links to the other two Aviators songs I’ve featured on my blog...I will have to dedicate some time tomorrow morning to getting it done!
And now I should really go to bed, as it's 2:15 AM and I didn't intend to stay up this late. ^^; Goals for tomorrow are to get that Song Saturday post sorted and hopefully work on another Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) draft; play some Baldur's Gate III and take care of those Paladins of Tyr; and catch up on the latest CaFae Latte compilation, if there is one. I don't want to commit to anything else given how long the BG3 and CL write-ups take these days. *sigh* Night all!
Work – Was another fairly quiet day at work, though I did have a bit more to do than I did the last couple of days:
