Busy Slushy Thursday
Feb. 13th, 2025 11:49 amYeah, the morning was a bit of a slushy mess, with rain and whatnot -- though I guess that was better than more snow! (Sort of; I wouldn't have minded another snow day off work.) And as for the busy part -- well, see below:
Work – Busy day at work today – the missing coworker was still missing today (still not feeling well), and while there wasn’t a heck of a lot going on with the phones or anything (though we did get a couple of credit card calls), I still had plenty to do. Like showing my other coworker how to log into the credit card computer and “stuff scanned in by our processors” laptop! Doing a GL that took a bit longer than anticipated because of matching up all the credit card gifts on it! And putting on a bunch of gifts that came in today’s mail (separated into “gifts that need soft credits, cash gifts, and regular checks” to make my life easier)! Plus I got a phone call about a payroll deduction check where I hadn’t been able to find the donor near the end of the day that caused me to do a last-minute batch. *sigh* But I made it through, got everything on, and was able to walk out with all my tasks completed! And now it is an extra-long weekend for me, yay~
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – another night on the bike, another night with “Reacting to The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Trailer” by James Turner! James’s half-awake reaction to the new expansion pack trailer and the follow-up blog post continued, with:
A) James getting excited by the idea of being able to mark specific rooms in a home business as “residential,” “public,” and “employees only” – and then going “but I got excited for For Rent and its similar ‘unit’ system too…”
B) James initially defending the fact that the pack only has two new skills, because a lot of expansion don’t necessarily add any – and then going “okay, I see your point there” when someone pointed out that the pack is called “Businesses & Hobbies”
C) James jokingly saying that the new Sims 4 DLC model will be them just releasing sequels for Get To Work and Get Together from now on
D) James getting very hung up on why a candy shop had a circle signboard in front of it in some of the promotional renders, because he found it so weird (and rejected the idea that it was a doughnut, as it was way too thin)
E) James getting excited by the new Small Business system and the way it should integrate with other packs, then allowing that this all fantastic in theory, but they have to see if it actually works in practice (mock-crying that he wants the best “Rags to Riches” pack he’s ever seen, come on EA)
So yes – the vibe remains “cautiously optimistic” here, with James really liking the sound of the pack (even if he thinks it should have been called “Small Business” instead), but acknowledging that we have no idea how buggy it’s going to be, and that will make all the difference. We’ll wrap up all this analysis tomorrow!
2. Write first draft of Brynlee Marie’s Gift Fic: Check – I sent her a message on tumblr last night regarding what she wanted out of a fic this year, and she got back to me today stating that she wanted to see her OC Madeline be badass. So why not write something with the Malkavian version of her (one of the few versions who isn’t Victor and Alice’s daughter – she’s instead the childe of the Voerman sisters (Jeannette specifically, if I recall correctly), and a secret agent of LaCroix who befriends Alice to keep an eye on her, only revealing herself after the Sheriff boss fight) and Alice fighting vampires together? I was game for that, and thus this evening whipped up a scene of Madeline and Alice fighting the Sabbat in the Hallowbrook Hotel, since that seemed like a prime place for the two of them to battle their fellow Kindred. Madeline got to cut a Brujah’s head off and hit another unknown vampire with a double dose of Dementation and a nail bat, while Alice blasted both a Gangrel and a Toreador with a shot gun, before finishing off the latter with the nail bat as well. All while they talked about how there were so many freaking Sabbat in here and they had to be whittling down the crowd by now. XD It was a fun little fight scene, inspired by the one I’d just written (hence why Alice has a shotgun and a nail bat – she just used both in the Bishop Vick fight). Needs some clean-up, of course, but that’s what the second draft is for next week!
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Check – got a surprise double dose of Josh Way movie reviews today (along with another GrayStillPlays compilation, but that’ll be saved for future workouts) –
A) “Movie Review Double Shot: Companion and Love Me” – Josh does a double review of two movies that recently came out that each have sci-fi, “what does it mean to be human” themes coupled with stories about romantic relationships! Companion being a comedic thriller that Josh was actually reluctant to talk too much about because he feels the movie is best if you go in blind (though if you’ve seen a single trailer, that ship has sailed), but that he said that he really really liked; and Love Me being a slower, romantic story about a smart buoy and a satellite in the post-apocalypse that fall in love and try to learn how to be human from the satellite’s stored archive of Copyright-Friendly YouTube and Instagram – that Josh said was the first truly bad movie of the year. Most because it insisted on being “profound” and trying to make you care about the love story, when Josh though the more interesting angle would have been “satire about how two nonhuman entities would perceive being human if all they had to go on was social media.” Also there’s a full half-hour in the middle where the two interact through the medium of poorly-animated avatars, and Josh LOATHED that. So yeah, if you’re going to see one of the two, definitely go for Companion!
B) “Presence Movie Review” – Josh reviews this January ghost movie – that is told from the first-person perspective of the ghost! All of the shots are from its eyes as it moves about the house it haunts and observes the family that moves into said house. Josh said that the film-making itself was excellent (comparing the central conceit to the gimmick from “Here,” that movie about the history of a house that really hated, and commenting about how this version work so much better, even if it uses some of the same tricks) and the acting quite good, though he dinged the story for having a dysfunctional family that was a little too dysfunctional – the mother and son apparently are REALLY nasty to the father and daughter. And apparently there’s some outside characters with outside problems who get brought in at one point when Josh felt there was already enough drama, but he didn’t want to go into detail on that because spoilers. But the bottom line was he felt it was a good enough movie to recommend seeing in the theater – so if you’re interested in a ghost story with a twist, you might want to check this out!
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Substitution check and regular check –
Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) – No queuing necessary tonight on this blog, given I finished off all the posts for this week yesterday, but I did reblog a couple of things –
A) The updated version of Nebby’s “sketches of MediEvil characters as they look in my “MediEvil II Resurrection” fic” post, since she added some extra sketches she did at work of Dan and Kiya looking shocked by something; Dan chatting with his tiny genie friend Al; and – I’m not sure if it was Dan or another character, but they’d taken an arrow through the eye and were going “Do you have any ibuprofen? I have a headache.” Very well drawn, as usual, but DAMN did the arrow one make me wince. *grimaces*
B) And a poly-themed meme post about approaching a throuple and asking “who’s the soldier, who’s the poet, and who’s the king” I found on Polyamorous Moods – I confess that I’m not 100% sure what it’s referencing, but I was able to relate it to Valicer! XD Alice is the soldier, of course; Victor the poet because that fits his vibes the best; and Smiler the king, as that fits THEIR vibes the best. *nods* Nice.
Valice Multiverse – As for this blog, I didn’t have anything going on (no asks or replies or anything like that), but I did find a few things to stick in the queue – all from Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) –
A) A reblog of my post about the second chapter of “A Murder Shared Is A Murder Thirded” going up
B) A reblog of Nebby’s belated birthday art from the other day
C) And a reblog of the Valentine’s Day set of Valicer Not-lncorrect Quotes that went up today
So that’s something!
Whew! Not bad, I suppose -- got plenty done, at least, at work and at home. And now I'm gonna start wrapping things up so I can hit the sheets. Tomorrow is Valicertine's Day, so I'm hoping that I can do some Valicer-related stuff in Sims 4 (be nice to at least do some CAS stuff -- if I can get Smiler's proper eye color to stick, damn it); work on "A Murder Shared Is A Murder Thirded;" work on some of the stuff in my drafts on Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler); get in a workout; and keep up with whatever's in my Subs, as well as hopefully watching a few Corpse Bride, Alice: Madness Returns, and The Smiler clips. *nods* We'll see what happens! Night all!
