The New Video Card ROCKS
Sep. 27th, 2005 10:04 pmI ended up getting a different brand -- the ATI Radeon 9550. The one I was looking at, the nVidia GeForce 6800, wouldn't play on my Vaio -- my power supply wouldn't support it. But this one's just as good, really! My game's never run smoother! And I have ALL THE GRAPHIC OPTIONS! All of them! And I can enable the neighbors and stuff for houses and community lots! I can do the "click over to another house" thingy! MY SIMS DON'T FREEZE OPENING THE FRIDGE ANYMORE! *grabs TeenDoc and dances him around the room*
-VD: *grin* It's nice to see you so happy!-
:D Just one thing that puts a damper on the whole situation: I disable my background tasks to get optimum performance from my Sims, and that requires restarting the computer after my game. No biggie, usually -- I did my thing --
And my monitor abruptly freaked out on me. Basically, it went all staticky -- like you would see if you were trying to access a TV channel you didn't quite get.
-M: O.o-
I know. It quit it after a quick reboot, and it's working now (obviously), but that was totally out of left field. I'm hoping for a one-time glitch thing -- either that or it had to do with how many programs I have in my Start-Up menu -- might want to edit that.
But anyway, back to Sims. I, of course, visited my favorite neighborhood, Twin Oaks Park to test -- first sign something was going well was that the neighborhood didn't have any scrolling issues. In fact, all my scrolling and rotating is almost completely smooth now. Lag is virtually nonexistant as well. I promptly played with my graphics options (they'd been reset by the installation) -- reflections are on, fingers are back, edges are smoother -- everything's just BETTER.

I could even enable the options Nightlife gave us to see the neighbors and neighborhood! You can see the Von Nostrand House from the Robinson side.
-M: Hey, that's actually pretty cool.-
Isn't it though! I played them through your average Wednesday -- Marie made Lietenant, April has a possible new friend named Chris Bruty, Marie bought Gypsy some new clothes, and Gypsy got a makeover.

-D: *silly grin* That's my girl!-
-DW: Our girl, you mean.-
:) And of course everyone got ReNuYu-ed -- I had Marie become attracted to Red Hair, Daniel to Blond Hair and Fitness. I think Gypsy has the same turn-ons so they'll fit Doc. And of course I made liberal use of the "Scope Room" feature:

Marie and Daniel have two bolts of chemistry I think -- when I sent Marie out to get clothes though, I was startled to discover she also has a bolt with Christopher Von Nostrand. Using scope the room, I was rather amused to see she had chemistry with Donald Patrickson too, apparently.
-D: Bleck.-
Oh, that's nothing. I played Donald too -- he has 3 bolts with Jill -- and a bolt with Sarah Von Braun.
-TD: What the hell?! That's my MOTHER!! Keep him away from my mother!-
Relax, relax, he's not going to do anything with Sarah. I'll make sure of it.
-TD: *grumblemutter*-
Anyway, I also dropped in on Strangetown's La Fiesta Tech to see Gilgamesh and Agatha -- unfortunately it appears their dorm may be bugged. For some reason I have an extra cafteria worker who's "living" in the dorm. I'd better get these two out fast!
-VD2: I see, yes. What happened with Gil and Agatha?-
Well, I did the ReNuYu stuff (after sending Gil to class) -- Agatha was another one attracted to stink. I made hers Red Hair and Fitness, I believe -- Gil is Blond Hair and Vampirism. After Gil came back, I discovered he couldn't eat any of the prepared food (he had "resume cooking" as an option, for some reason) so I had him gorge himself on cookies.

(Don't worry -- it disappeared after that batch of pancakes was taken away, so he can eat) Agatha also got in some practice with the thinking cap and the easel -- she needed creativity.

I then had them play red hands together -- here's a nice shot of them post-game.

Then, I had Agatha Check Out Gil -- three bolts of chemistry between them! From then on, it was a shower of hearts whenever they thought of each other or scoped the room (though Gil seems to like the other two female roommates, Demi and Debbie, as well).

It even happened when Agatha dreamed of Gil! :p
-OD: You and your Agatha/Gil. . . .-
Hush, it keeps you in fanart ideas. Another weird thing is that I can suddenly see into the other dormie rooms now. Not much happening in there :p. Agatha and Gil even did their homework in one.

Didn't hurt the run quality, and I'll be moving out of there soon anyway.
One final pic -- a better quality Agatha underwear one, I just love the detail you can see now.

I'll have a full Robinson update in
revison_doc tomorrow. Right now I have to go do websiteness before MDC sees all this and starts poking me again.
-VD2: *pokes* And finish putting up "BTTF Part III 1/2" already.-
I will, I will. Here's the LJ BTTF Quiz before I go:
