-TD: Time for your own personal Spark rant?-
You could say that, yeah. Today was a day of minor and major annoyances. Mostly work-related, of course. I got to the dry-cleaners, only to see that the lights are off. Turns out that Bill's having the front room lights replaced. So naturally, there's this guy on ladder putting up lights and knocking old paint chips all over the floor and somesuch. The store is still open, we're doing our usual thing in the back.
The first few customers that come in while the light change is happening -- annoying, but nothing I can't handle. The guy finishes up putting up the lights in front of the counter. Now he has to move around to replace the lights behind it -- basically, where we stand, take in clothes, put slips, all that. And since he can't help knocking paint chips out, everything on and behind the counter needs to be covered in plastic (we improvised our plastic garment bags as covers).
GUESS THE CUSTOMERS THOUGHT IT WAS TIME FOR A RUSH.
I'm serious -- EVERY FUCKING LIVING BEING ON GODDAMNED PLANET EARTH came in right when the guy was trying to replace the lights! And half of them had BIG orders too! My coworker M got one person who had a huge storage order! I was thinking, "CAN'T THEY SEE THIS MIGHT BE A BAD TIME?!" Well, I suppose a few did, as they were JOKING about it. *grr*
Finally, we got all the clothes out of the way, and the guy was able to do the lights. However, that rush set the tone for the rest of the day -- I was able to score a reasonably quiet lunch, but the rest of the day was all rush rush rush. There seemed to be five million miles of clothes to detag and bag in the back, and of course we had customers up front too. I didn't get a chance to really sit down at all after lunch.
And of course, that workday wouldn't be complete without a rush at the end of the day too, right when I was supposed to leave. And since my other coworker was doing the billing for the cleaners we take in work for, I was handling it on my own. Luckily mostly people picking up, though there was one woman who had a whole basketful of stuff (and complaints besides -- geniune, but still, I WANNA GOOOOO). And a guy I dislike simply because he has a bit of an attitude.
Finally get out about 15 minutes later than I'm supposed to (not a lot, I know, but I can be beyond anal about schedules at times), get home, find house empty. Not a problem, I do my dishes--
And I find what I THINK is a spider on my shirt. Cue me freaking out and whapping it off with a dishtowel. I got it off (and discovered it was actually a little flying bug that quickly died) -- but in my haste, I snagged my bat necklace, and I managed to yank the bat right off. Mom was able to fix it when she got home, fortunately.
And to top things off, my taxes remain unfinished. Federal, the pink form, is done, but we're still doing state taxes, and we can't make head or tail out of the language on that form. *headdesk* I want to finish it and get it out already!
-D: . . . I suppose this explains the new CD backups?-
After today, I wasn't taking chances with the computer. Would have been just my luck if it had crashed. Besides, my old CD backups were a few months out of date by this point. Time for new ones.
-VD: You need a more efficient back-up system though. CDs hold a limited amount of information.-
I know -- my computer can take a memory stick, perhaps I should get one of those. But CDs work for now. I've got all my stories, my three Sims neighborhoods, and my Downloads folder from Sims -- which, for me, is all the important stuff.
Strangetown Sims -- a return to my second-favorite mad scientists, Gil and Agatha.
-H: Second favorites?-
Doc's the first. :D Anyway, I played them about halfway through their second Junior semester. Things continue to go well for them -- the money tree regularly gives fruit, so they have a nice steady income.

Agatha made a new friend, her former fellow dormie Cooper, while Gil studied up his mechanical skill.

And then, it was time for a tasty lunch of grilled cheese, followed by some chess to keep the fun up.

The chess game had to be ended a bit prematurely however -- the cow showed up and stole from one of the money trees. Agatha did her business in the bathroom while Gil started a new painting.

Poor guy was bothered by a random cheerleader, however. She's hard to see in the picture, but she's there.

Luckily, after they went to class and she left, I remembered that OfB allows for lockable doors. So now the house is locked to Agatha and Gil only.
-D: That's useful then.-
Yeah, I know. I don't usually have any problem with that sort of visitor, but in college -- ick.
Anyway, after class, Agatha did more studying while Gil found a creative way to save water. I love getting the "lick clean" option for dishes. :p

I also sold their Moneywell for
anonymoose_au's hacked typewriter. They have enough options for fun in the house, and they made 300 simoleons off the sale. Agatha got started on her term paper while Gil did an assignment.

Then it was beddy-bye time. As they slept, I quietly added onto their house.

Yes, I know, a hefty investment for poor college students. But this is Gil and Agatha -- if I can get one of them a bronze Robotery badge before they leave school, it'll be worth it.
I started the next day off greening them up and getting in a little affection.

Then Agatha started making "Dingbot Toy" robots while Gil worked on his term paper. Her first two creations came out great, but the last was a bit faulty.

Chin up, Agatha. Gil will fix it for you while you have lunch.

Then he will play with it and laugh uproariously. Gil, you need to get out more.

By the time they got through class, their moods were pretty much shot. I made sure they were both in gold (Agatha required a little nudge), then had them energize.

Gil finished his term paper, then it was his turn at the bench while Agatha finished hers. As I was winding up the session, he only made the one. Better luck next time, Gil.

-DW: Speaking of Sims, are you doing the furry family?-
Yes, and I think I may have a plot thread to relate it to
revison_doc. The Furpeople were an experiment created in the labs Doc worked at, but some higher-up ordered them destroyed. Doc helps their creator get them away, and they send the Furpeople to Strangetown and La Fiesta Tech. When I play the Furpeople, I'll have them send grateful e-mails to Doc and their creator, letting them know they're all right.
-M: Sounds cool. Not worried about overcrowding?-
The limit is somwhere in the 800s, and all my neighborhoods are still under 500. As long as I practice good family planning, I should be fine. Not many of the couples in Strangetown are going to have more than two kids, anyway.
-VD2: Good plan. Got any names for these furpeople?-
Everett the wolf, Calvin the fox, Suzy the cat, Jenny the skunk.
-VuM: How'd you come up with those names?-
-OD: I understand two -- Calvin and Suzy are different names for Marty and Jennifer. But Everett and Jenny?-
Everett was the name of one of your ancestors in my BTTF universes -- pretty sure it was Grandpa Von Braun. Jenny I got after hearing the song "867-5309" today on the radio.
-DW: No GypsyFox?-
Probably not -- I'm not going to make the Furpeople into clones of you and CKF. *thoughtful* Given me a seed of an idea, though. . . .
-VD2: . . . You're going to pair him up with Josie, aren't you?-
*shrug* He'll be a possible choice. I want to get her in a relationship with someone.
Fic updates -- working on "BTTX-2," did a little on "Big Teeth," finishing up a page in "Dusky Past." Sorry if it's a little low, but anger drains creativity out of me.
-VD: No, no, it's fine.-
-TD: Just great.-
Heh, relax, I won't bite your heads off.-
-E: Still, I think we'll all breathe a little easier once you get a good night's sleep and leave today behind.-
Yeah, me too.
