Why I Am Not On AIM
Dec. 17th, 2006 12:02 amItem the first: My 4-year-old cousin Fiona was over for dinner, and wanted to watch "Matilda" (movie based on the Roald Dahl book of the same name). I happen to really enjoy said movie as well, and ended up watching it. My mother kindly did the dishes for me, but I wish I'd had the presence of mind to just do the stupid dishes and get out of there. I didn't get back upstairs until 8:07.
Item the second: I ran a defrag on my computer. I hadn't run one since I bought it, so I figured it might help. That meant I didn't actually start simming until after 8:30.
Item the third: After figuring out the video capture settings, I got everything ready and did the wedding party at Doc's place. I save right before the wedding (Doc's heading up to the arch), then end up taking random video clips while they wait. "What's the holdup?" I ask myself.
Turns out they're waiting on April. And just as she walks into frame -- the special events camera comes on.
Frustrated, after it's done, I exit without saving, reenter, and take my video as April walks in.
Item the fourth: Okay, so that's over with -- the guys end up having a roof-raiser party, go on a nice honeymoon, all of that. I also see a great "first woohoo" clip which makes me wish I'd video-taped it. (More on this later). I'm just having Gypsy work on robotery and Doc play with Sigmund when --
I get a DirectX error. And the game crashes.
Cue me trying to keep my cool, and getting a long-delayed dessert. For the record, it was this same error which killed my Morte Halloween party (the one that didn't really happen, I just had the pictures for it).
Item the fifth: Restart the game. This time I save again after the limo does its thing (this time Gypsy misses the honeymoon, but Doc was kind enough to come right back after it left. I faked the moodboost via energizer). Get some nice new pictures to intergrate in. Gypsy also plays with the Tesla coil, causing a some rain to my consternation. (Yes, the game DOES already have weather -- this item allows you to see the broken rain engine.) It's getting late, and I'm having Emmett clean up the cake when --
The game freezes.
And my computer restarts.
I actually cry at this point. I also swear to smack the shit out of the guy at Best Buy who convinced me to buy this computer despite my reservations about the video card.
Item the sixth: Restart the game once my computer's restarted. At least this time I have a later save. I go about my business, then decide to make this restart worthwhile. I turn the events camera back on and videotape the first woohoo clip. A few more saves as the game goes on, and I finally manage to properly quit.
