And Another Chunk of the Log
Apr. 25th, 2008 10:41 pmWarning, this one's REALLY picture-heavy due to the two shows we took in. You'll probably be really grateful I stuck with thumbnails.
Day Three: April 17th, 2008
A day of awesomeness at the park. It’s warmer today, so we hit Islands of Adventure properly this time. But first, some CityWalk Pictures:
Hang Ten, Dude!
Me by the big lake that separates the parks.
The Hard Rock Cafe, which I've never been too but looks pretty awesome from the outside.
First stop is Spidey and Marvel Island again, naturally --
Iceman, I appreciate the attempt at air conditioning. . . .
but then we head over to Jurassic Park. You see, I got a slight sunburn on the back of my neck yesterday, and we’re figuring a good hat will help with that. We find a rather Indiana Jonesy one and go to pay for it.
Except it doesn’t have a price. And it’s the only one there.
The lady at the counter scans in a similar-looking hat’s price for us, and we go to pay for it with my bank card.
No go – the registers don’t want to take it, the fussy things. We end up paying with cash. (Don't worry, my card was fine -- the Walgreens run that night proved it).
After that, though, wandering the park was a breeze. A picture breakdown by Island:
Toon Lagoon--
I'm no good at this "evil" thing. Despite what my muses say.
-M: Hey!-
No WONDER they fled up that cactus!
The obligatory "MARMADUKE!" picture
Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls! One of my favorite rides, even if my stomach knots itself before I go on. Please ignore my goofy pose.
Jurassic Park--
The T-Rex now menaces a Jeep as well as visitors.
Would you believe this dangerous-looking little guy is FOR SALE? I didn't ask the price, but I bet it's expensive.
The Spinosaurus has a Jeep now too. Note my cool new hat.
The Lost Continent--
The -- uh -- mergriffon, I guess -- that guards the entrance. Mom wanted me to sit up further, but this guy had an explicit "No climbing" sign.
The Dueling Dragons. Behave, you two!
Posideon's Temple, home of the Posideon's Fury show. Awesome show, with a water tunnel and water projection screens. And Taylor. :D
A closer look at one of the waterfalls running out of the temple.
The great Hand of Posideon! I love the ruins.
Another pretty cool waterfall, by Mythos.
Seuss Landing--
I morn the loss of the trees with the Lorax.
They have bush creatures at Seuss Landing! :D I thought it was cute, anyway.
-TD: Fun stuff!-
Yeah, though I always have to close my eyes for a split-second before any drop in the water rides. Especially before the final drop in the River Adventure – that T. Rex FREAKS ME OUT. (I have discovered I’m less of a wimp than Steven Spielberg, though, who actually has the ride STOPPED before the drop every time he goes on.)
-Muses: *snicker*-
After doing the water rides, we got hungry and decided to drop by The Lost Continent for lunch. I’d spotted a place called Mythos that had a big banner out front proclaiming it the #1 Theme Park Restaurant from 2003-2007. Mom was leery – it IS theme park food – but we gave it a go anyway.
Trust me, it deserved every bit of that praise. It’s an actual sit down restaurant with waiters! It’s got a very cool Greco-Roman atmosphere, with great architecture and a nice view out the windows. And the food is EXCELLENT. Mom had a wonderful spinach salad, and I got a juicy as hell chicken sandwich. Seriously, if you ever hit Universal and Islands of Adventure, check the place out!
The restaurant of PURE AWESOME. You MUST eat here at least once.
Me inside Mythos. It's a neat-looking place, inside and out.
The view from our window -- you can see Toon Lagoon and Popeye's ship "The Olive."
After lunch, we took in the stunt show “The 8th Voyage of Sinbad.” It’s a pretty fun show, full of groaner puns and lots of action. Unfortunately, this means a good number of the shots here are blurry or kinda dark. I’m rather inexperienced at taking action shots. No captions here, or I'd be here all NIGHT.

After that, it was time to grab an ice cream from Seuss Landing for me and make our way over to the other side of the park, with a brief detour for a photo op:
I can't drive, I'm eating a waffle cone!
Back on the Universal Side, we hit Jimmy Neutron again, then made our way over for a second turn at Disaster.
I -- dunno if I want any pizza made by the Wolfman. He'd need a full-body hairnet.
The devestation of Twister. Of course, thinking about it, I should have found a picture of a cow.
The Mummy's museum. Another ride we didn't go on -- indoor roller coaster with the undead popping out at you? Nightmare Fuel for me, I'm sure.
On the way, though, I spotted a sign for “Beetlejuice’s Rock and Roll Graveyard Revue.” Having never seen it, Mom and I decided to go ahead and check it out. It was pretty darn cool – I’ve never seen Beetlejuice in its entirety, but I’ve seen enough clips to appreciate the character. The featured monsters were Dracula, the Wolfman, Frankenstein’s Monster, and Frankenstein’s Monster’s Bride, and they did covers of a lot of popular rock songs. Lot of 80s music. :p Fun stuff! Presented without captions because, again, I do need to sleep.

After that, it was another go at Disaster, then we started walking back along the streets. For some reason, instead of taking the main road past the Mummy ride, we took a side street. I was amused to find a Walgreen Pharmacy in the park, since in Florida proper there seems to be a Walgreens on every corner.
Yes, it's missing the "s", but so what?
And then – I met up with some old friends.

THE TRAIN AND DELOREAN LIVE!! :D I thought they were gone forever! God, it was so good to see them both again – especially the Train. No Harry Potterizing for it! Aww, our pretty train.
-RPD: The inside’s still a little messy.-
-TD: Oh, tell me they’ve at least fixed those peeling numbers.-
They really ought to, at any rate. And to make things even better, a Doc showed up on a time traveling bike! :D I admitted I didn’t think he’d be around anymore because the Ride was no more, to which he replied, “I can travel through time!” :p
-VD: You have to admit, it’s a useful ability to have when your favorite rides are retired.-
Anyway, we chatted for a bit – he was pleased to hear about the Celebration screening and said Chris Lloyd did an excellent job of playing him. And of course I got pictures. Yay for ones were I’m actually smiling, instead of that old trip where I had a deer-in-the-headlights expression.
He really DOES have a time-traveling bicycle!
He was a pretty cool Doc -- let me hold the "DeLorean Keys" for a bit. And he's kinda cute too. :p
After that, it was time to leave the park. We headed back to our hotel and took a quick dip in the pool. It wasn’t bad, but it was a bit more – heated – than we were used to.
-TD: You mean it was like jumping into a bath. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I suppose.-
Yeah, but cooler water might have been nice for a hot day. Too bad we couldn’t get Victor in the pool.
-TTV: You got me to remove my suitcoat, what more do you want? Besides, it was crowded.-
True, but you don’t take up that much space. Anyway, we walked up to Subway for dinner. Surprisingly crowded, and only one guy working the sandwich line – but he was GOOD. Just kept zipping along, making sandwiches about three at a time and getting people through. I had my usual Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki – nummy. Then back to the hotel for bedtimes.
My leg hurts for some reason. I don't know why.
-VD: O.o? What happened?-
*shrug* I was walking to the bank after work to get my funds all set, and it started cramping up, I guess. I really don't know what I did to it. I can still walk, but it hurts.
-TD: Need a knee brace.-
Heh, nah, I'm okay.
-VD2: Just rest it as much as you can. Tomorrow you need to go out and get your scrapbook supplies.-
I know! Put all my pictures in a safe place and stuff. Let me make a list of what I need.
-VD: Don't forget my edits, though.-
No, no, I won't.
