I Has Interesting Monies

I got a 1957A dollar in my change from my Providence Place expedition, apparently -- it's one of those that still states that you can trade it in for silver. Very weird. I also found a Bahamas starfish penny in our till the other day. ^_^
-HD: *examines* Shiny! Well, sort of.-
Heh, yeah, it needs a bit of a bath, but it looks neat. Usually the only foreign change I see are Canadian nickels and dimes. Nice to have something different turn up.
Anyway, today was fairly busy -- lot of clothes to get through, though thankfully not as much as some Fridays. My ever-late coworker scared me by calling the boss about some meeting she had, but she showed up just a few minutes after three so all was well. *whew*
-M: Thank God.-
Yeah. I also got myself a small chocolate M&M Friend-Z on the way home - mmmmmmmmmm. :D
-VD: Any writing done?-
-DW: Guess.-
I'm sorry I like "From the Ashes Reborn."
-VD2: Heh, it's all right. New story, and we all know it's a subject you enjoy. It's just surprising how you can churn out pages on it.-
I know! I think Phoenix!Doc is giving me some sort of a boost. <.< >.>
-OD: Just remember not to neglect your other stories too much. *tentacles chitter*-
I'm trying not to. I finished a drabbles88, shall I post that?
-D: Go ahead. We're not opposed to progress.-
Yayz!
30. Rain
He doesn’t understand why it has to rain when he’s sad.
It’s annoying, frankly. Increased humidity he could deal with. Hell, slight misting he could deal with. But no – whenever he gets depressed or upset, it has to full-on rain. Right over his head, no less, soaking him and ruining whatever he’s working on.
The problem is, he can’t help but feel sad a lot lately. He’s in a strange place – states away from his hometown, years away from the last time he saw Earth, an entire alternate universe away from everything he’s ever known. He’s surrounded by strangers – people with odd powers and relationships all their own. (And one blue telephone box that isn’t really.) And although most of the people (and boxes) he’s met have been friendly enough, Doc still doesn’t feel – settled. Right.
And it all comes down to the fact that he’s missing.
He didn’t mean to leave Marty alone on the other side of the Rift. Doc feels responsible for the kid – he’s only a child, after all. Well, a teenager – but still so young. Too young to have been grabbed away by the Fae and forced to perform for hours on end, singing and playing until his throat has been ripped raw and his fingers are torn and bloody. Doc remembers building him the microphone to spare his throat a bit, making him the picks and the gloves to keep his fingers from being worn down to nubs, then caring for him when the “joy juice” Carlos was feeding him finally ran out and he collapsed on stage. He remembers doing what he could to be the parent, the friend, Marty so desperately needed.
And he remembers how Marty cared for him too. Stood up for him against Andrew and his horrid operations. Talked to him about home. Gave him back his name, gave him back a reason to push on, to try and escape.
Gave him back his hope.
And he left him there, in the Hedge, with the briarwolves and the vileshrikes and the other Goblins. . .and the Fae who will drag him back to Arcadia, to Hell, if they catch him. . . .
And the rain starts again.
Rift!Doc fic -- I figured I ought to write something, and the Rain prompt was there.
-RPD: *looks sad* You really like putting him through the wringer.-
He gets his Marty back, don't worry. I'm still working on the application. Just gotta do the writing sample.
-TD: *hugs his Marty, obviously thinking of when his friend dies in "Boy Genius* I don't like all this friendship angst.-
I'll try to write something happier for the next prompt.
-VDM: *wriggles* You're squeezing a little tight, buddy.-
-RPD: How ARE things going in the Rift?-
Okay, Doc's working with Aubrey to get a Rift detection device working. (Ignore the gabriel_destiny stuff, he apparently quit.) I wish the comment flow would start up again, though. Dang scheduling stuffs. :(
-OD: Impatient, are we?-
Well, I wanna see how it worked. And also there's personal journal stuff I could write, I just want to wrap up the thread a bit before I do. *pokes Aubrey's mun gently*
-TTV: *blinks* Er, what's with the pronouns?-
Apparently Aubs here comes from an AU earth with four sexes -- male and female, plus asex and intersex. Aubrey is asex, which means xe is really neither he nor she, so they use xe as the pronoun. *wonders what intersex's pronouns are*
-TTV: Huh.-
Perfectly nice kid, though. Xe is a tech-asex. He and Doc are getting along okay, if with a little awkwardness.
-RPD: The awkwardness is inspiring the journal entry idea, I'm sure.-
Well, yeah! What else?
Anyway, I should probably do some more writing and see what else there is on the net. Later.

Date: 2008-05-31 05:02 am (UTC)And I had this crazy idea of an RPG community of our own where my guys and your guys and whomever we both talk to (er, okay mostly you cuz I'm not on IMs anymore) hang out (like the Inkwell...wow do I need sleep...).

Date: 2008-05-31 05:37 am (UTC). . . Ye gods, I had the same idea a while ago, using the Inkwell. I was scared off by the responsibility. ^^;

Date: 2008-05-31 05:50 am (UTC)While I got you here, Clockwork!Doc makes me think of the Clockwork soldiers from season 2 of New Who. Here's the inner workings of the head (http://doctorwho.time-and-space.co.uk/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=5&pos=277) and what they looked like (http://doctorwho.time-and-space.co.uk/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=5&pos=597). Though I'm sure Doc's not after the head of a French aristocrat. ^^
Oh, and I liked the drabble. But you knew I'd say that. :p

Date: 2008-05-31 06:05 am (UTC). . . Clockwork!Doc is also not made of NIGHTMARE FUEL EEEEK
Seriously, what the hell is that second picture?! *hides under her desk*
Of course I did.

Date: 2008-05-31 06:01 am (UTC)RPing with Aubrey is rather mindbending, trying to keep track of those wacky pronouns, innit? :P
no subject
Date: 2008-05-31 06:06 am (UTC)LoL, yeah. Though I wonder what the intersex ones are now. . .

Date: 2008-06-01 07:27 am (UTC)Apologies for the strange pronouns. :P Aubs would kill me if'n I'd made xem a guy or something for RP purposes. It gets to me sometimes too -- it's become difficult to refer to xes PB as 'he', and if I spend too much time with Aubs (RP or otherwise) it gets hard to use normal pronouns when they're needed.
(The intersex ones are se/hir/hirs, etc., btw.)
Annnd, I'm going to stop rambling now and actually go to sleep.

Date: 2008-06-01 06:27 pm (UTC)Heh, it's okay -- I think it's pretty neat, actually. Aubs is cute for being semi-sexless. I'm glad he and Doc got to meet up, even if they tend to have awkward moments. :p
(Ahhh, interesting. Complicated world they live in.)
no subject
Date: 2008-06-01 06:42 pm (UTC)(It gets even more complicated because se/hir/hirs are the pronouns I use in everyday life for anyone (friends, headvoices, whatev) with alternate genders, not just intersex. So it's weird differentiating between them, esp in journal entries, when I use both 'xe' and 'se' to refer to the same gender (or lack thereof). >< *shakes fist at Aubs's world*)

Date: 2008-06-01 06:55 pm (UTC)(LoL, oh geez. Makes me kinda glad my muses are all explicitly male or female.)

Date: 2008-06-01 08:28 pm (UTC)(There's not that many. Only...four. Five. Wait, six. Well, crap. *headdesk* Though out of the sum total of friends and headvoices, that's not a lot. ><)

Date: 2008-06-01 08:57 pm (UTC)(LoL, I see. So long as you can figure it all out. :p)

Date: 2008-06-02 12:43 am (UTC)I noticed you friended me with Clockwork Doc! The game looks cool. Sorry I haven't been around lately, stuff has been exhausting and I've been super-busy. :( But you keep on truckin' with your bad self. ;)

Date: 2008-06-02 08:58 pm (UTC)It only felt appropriate, since you came up with the original idea in the first place. :) And yeah, I figured you were busy with things.
I shall indeed -- I'm gonna be apping Marty next. ;D
