Just got this back from the Rift Mods about Marty:
While the application itself is fine, we generally speaking, try not to let one player play more than one main character from a fandom. Obviously there have been exceptions, especially with some of the bigger fandoms out there but since BTTF has a smaller cast of main characters, we're going to have to deny your application.

Seems like a shitty reason to me, honestly, but whatever.

Except, am I allowed to ask for that specific Marty? I mean, I could give a shit about the power set or some of the details, but it wouldn't feel right for him not to be the Marty from Doc's universe. And I'd feel like a jerk for trying to force that on someone else.

On a lighter note, yay for Daniel's Rift powers finally activating. :p

I think so. The Rift mods checked to make sure I'd okayed it with Kat before they approved my app for Eloi's dad, so I don't see why they couldn't do the same with you and your Marty. It's only fair, I suppose.

And yes, yay for half of Daniel's Rift powers showing up! Now I just need to find an appropriate time for the other half. >.>

Heh, I'm open to sharing the insanity. The problem is the one person who's most familiar with him is often off-line for long amounts of time due to real life (the guy who started writing the original story and got me into the whole thing). Though I'm definitely willing to explain it to anyone who wants to take a crack at it.

While I'm here (sorry), what kind of mind does Rift!Doc have? I'm asking cuz AL can't normally read the minds of androids/cyborgs/etc. (like Data for example...too complex). I know he got Aurabesh transmitted to him (yeah, I read the threads once in a while) so I need to know if he's got something organic in there like a human brain or if it's all cybernetic...or whatever it's called in steampunk. Steamernetic? :p

No, you're right - that is an absolutely shitty excuse! If they said that they didn't think you could handle more than one character, that'd make more sense! But what the fuck does the cast size have to do with it?!

From what I've been told, it's character interaction. Even amongst the larger casts, they don't let people play two characters who are going to interact a lot and in-depth. Two different people interacting is less predictable and more interesting than one person going back and forth. That's how it was explained to me, anyhow. I don't entirely agree with it but I'm not one of the mods, so I can't do anything about it. (Which sucks, because I'm one of the few Dresden Files fans in the game, and I don't think I'm ever going to get a Murphy to interact with my Dresden.)

Yeah, that's how I was thinking about it after I got over the inital "god damn it" phase.

*patpats Ael* That sucks too. That's what I was worried about -- that I'd get a Marty, but it would be canon!Marty or something like that. Who would want to play that specific Marty? (Course, I've still got the journal and the idea for a side plot, just in case.)
